Binzume Yousei ~Bottle Fairy~ ( 瓶詰妖精 )

GENCO/XEBEC/TV Kanagawa/King Records, 2003

Geneon Entertainment, 2005

Directed by Yoshiaki Iwasaki (Love Hina, Mao-Chan)

Based on the manga by Yuiko Tokumi

Running Time: 12 minutes per episode

Rated 3-Up. Enjoy the show.

Kururu, Chiriri, Sarara and Hororo are four fairies living in bottles on a desk of a high school boy they call "Sensei." While their sensei is away, they try to imagine what the real world is like, based on what they learn from Tama-chan, a misinformed elementary school girl living next door.

Story: A-

When I thought A Little Snow Fairy Sugar was over-the-top in the kawaii factor, I didn't expect any other fairy anime to be equal. (Yes, I have yet to see Omishi Magical Theater Risky Safety.) But Bottle Fairy comes pretty close. It's Sugar meets Azumanga Daioh as you have the fairy Hororo acting a lot like Osaka-san.

Animation: A-

While it's animated by XEBEC (Martian Successor Nadesico, Uchuu no Stellvia), Bottle Fairy does not display any of the company's signature 3D animation. Instead, you have a well-drawn anime with clean animation and character designs that are so kawaii.

Soundtrack: A-

For every kawaii anime out there, there's an opening theme that stays glued into your head. Bottle Fairy is no exception with its theme "Oshiete Sensei-san" by the Bottle Fairies.

Sub vs. Dub

Bottle Fairy features Nana Mizuki (Minazuki in Happy Lesson, Neiju in Tenchi Muyo! GXP) as Kururu, Kaori Nazuka (Lala-Ru in Now and Then, Here and There, Kisa in Fruits Basket) as Chiriri, Yui Horie (Naru in Love Hina, Ayu in Ultra Maniac) as Sarara, Ai Nonaka (Shima in Stellvia, Rika in Platonic Chain) as Hororo, Kisho Taniyama as Sensei, and Haruko Momoi (Mii in Popotan, Chika in Ai Yori Aoshi) as Tama-chan.

English dub review coming soon.

DVD Extras

In a bottle at this time.

The Bottom Line

Got a sugar rush from watching Sugar? Then check out Bottle Fairy. It's good, clean fun for everyone of all ages.
