How do you customize paint job a 1/60?

A question for the 1/60 customizers out there.

When you guys customize your 1/60 valks with a personal paint job, or add customized decals like anasazi's, do you strip off the paint or just paint over the old one?

If you strip off the paint, what methods do you use?

Do you still use primer to first cover the valk and then paint it? I'm going to paint mine white and add Anasazi's customized decals.

Do you dis-assemble the valk into small parts when painting it?
