  1. Things are in the home stretch, with a little under a day & a half to go!

Just an FYI that I lowered the BIN price on the remaining 1/55 Bandai Macross valks to $64.99 USD, down from $69.99. As of this post, there are still (2) grey VF-1Js available, as well as (1) DYRL Hikaru VF-1A, as are the Destroids.

There' plenty of other goodies that can still be had without breakin' the bank, like the rare 2001 Sandiego Comic Con diecast Fuchikoma (only 1 of 200 made!), CHROME Scopedog Dual Model, Dougram Soltic Roundfacer, a couple of the bigger ZOIDS like Deathpion & MAD THUNDER, as well as others that include CP kits for customizing, like Iron Kong with Maneuver Thrusters, Panzer Unit-equipped Liger Zero & lots of other stuff!

Thanks for all those who have expressed interest or already made purchases! :)

  2. Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that I've put a ton of stuff up on eBay: 1/55 Bandai Valks (all MIB) & Destroids, LOTS of boxed & loose ZOIDS, some IRON MAN stuff (to be posted Saturday evening), a Panzer Cop/ JIN-ROH Kubrick, assorted books, a nifty limited Fuchikoma from Ghost in the Shell, & other rick-rack. I may be posting more thru the coming week, so check back periodically. In the meantime, here's the link to the goods!

  3. Guitar Hero is a freakin' FUN game!

I played it for the first time while staying with friends this past weekend. The guitar controller (about 3/4 actual size) feels remarkably solid and is very comfortable to play. The cover songs are really good covers. The fact that the controller has a motion sensor so that you have to make Rock God poses (point the guitar to the sky!) in order to activate bonus point opportunities which adds a funny... but just plain fun... gameplay element. I could go into more specifics, but suffice to say it is just a damn hoot to play.

My fiancée has been wanting a PS2 so she can play DDR... now with Guitar Hero, I think we will be making that purchase soon. ;)

IGN has a pretty good coverage of the game here:

In particular, watch the video 'Rockin' Out to Iron Man' for a hilarious look at how fun the gameplay can be (dorky clothes and gestures optional):

  4. OK, was it just me or was there an office moment where Routh was channelling Cristopher Reeve? Ya know.. the harelip sort of pronunciation... Creepy. Channelling or no, however, this flic looks like it will blow.

Supes' 'stache says it all...

  5. Devil (Legend): Tim Curry brought across a pretty charismatic and devious bad guy, in spite of his outwardly grotesque and seemingly brutish looks in this flick.  Was he supposed to be "The Devil" or just "A Devil" in this movie?

    391313[/snapback]

Don't forget: his character was simply known as 'Darkness.' As to wether he was ment to be 'a' or 'the' devil, I'm going to guess 'the.' Since he is set up to represent the 'dark side', as it were, I suppose it is safe to speculate there were none badder than he, so he was probably 'top devil.'

As for all-around best 'bad' guy (as in, really-really-nasty-bad-ass-and-not-in-that-Han-Solo-rogue-kinda-way characters), I say the following characters definitly are in the running. No cool anti-heroes here, just stone-cold bad men:

    - 'Tigrero' (a.k.a. 'Loco') in The Great Silence, played by Klaus Kinski

    - 'Frank' in Once Upon A Time In the West, played by Henry Fonda

    - 'Angel Eyes' in The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly, played by Lee Van Cleef

    - 'Tommy DeVito' in Goodfellas, played by Joe Pesci

    - 'The Jackal' in The Day of the Jackal, played by Edward Fox

    - 'The Lieutenant' in The Bad Lieutenant, played by Harvey Keitel

    - 'Richard K. Straker' in Salem's Lot, Played by James Mason

...and the baddest-ass silver screen bad guy, IMHO:

    - 'Harry Powell' in Charles Laughton's freaky-deaky surreal The Night Of The Hunter, played by Robert Mitchum. CLASSIC.

  6. Ugh. As far as I am concerned, Kate Beckinsale is the kiss of death for a movie. She can't act worth a damn and she ain't all that looks-wise.

I am hoping they pick an unknown for WW. If they could find a woman that is looks like a genetic blend of Lucy Lawless and Monica Bellucci then I'll have hope. If she can act, so much the better!

  7. Honestly, at least to me, the new icons make the board look really cluttered and cheap.

I have to agreee with that basic assesment.

If we must add new icons, then JsARCLIGHT's are a definite improvement... minus the Minmay wraith. She just doesn't work and is completely unecessary, IMO.

But really, I think the new icons thing is just adding unecessary visual clutter to an otherwise clean and perfectly functional interface.

  8. Its been ages since I saw an episode of Quantum Leap, but I recall enjoying the series in a lightweight, episodic TV sci-fi kinda way. :D

As for why he lept in to situations that were all mid- to late- 20th century... I seem to recall that his jumps were limited to events that happened within his own lifetime... meaning he couldn't jump 'beyond' his birthdate.

As he was 'fixing' glitches in the past, that naturally ment no 'forward' movement 'into' the future, beyond the present. The premise of the show seemed to indicate a clearly linear nature to time... which only underscores that it was a show written well before the current sci-fi fascination with alternate/ parallel concurrent existences... for that we had Sliders!

  9. I think that is why my color palate keeps skewing pastel, my mind is trying to match the feel of the board.

Your design insticts are spot on! B)) Unless someone wants to design a whole new interface for the board, I think we need to remain cognizant of the existing theme and attempt to be harmonious.

This is why I have stuck with 3D design in my day job... I look at the graphic designers seated to either side of me and I shudder when I see the hell they go thru with web and print color checks...

  10. Just my 2 centavos...

Simplicity is better, especially for a forum's graphics.

The current proliferation of kites and Minmays is a bit... much, IMO.

A simple black & white Skull & Crossbones for locked topics - and only locked topics - is genius tho!

Someone mentioned too much visual clutter, or something to that effect earlier on in this discussion, and I tend to aggree. The kite logo is just too complex of a grahic to have repeated everywhere. Add gradiants, and shrink 'em down.. and I think it just becomes a case of '10 lbs of poo in a 5 lb bag' as my old design instructor used to say!

Great efforts by everyone, btw; I'm all for constructive criticism!

I think you have to look at the basic theme of the forum... a monomchrome blue and gay... and build off of that. Less is more.

Add too much color or actually animation-style stuff and it will devolve into a kiddie fan site-look fast... rather than the suave and sophisticated hangout for vintage anime connoisseurs that it currently is. B))

  11. Wow, its like Spiral Zone or Venus Wars, but kinda not! ;) Here's an interesting streaming link on a local dude that has a working Monowheel Cycle Concept:

    http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200660316001

Not only is it a monowheel, its a hubless design too! AFAIK, it doesn't have a gyroscope in it like the bombadier concept. I STILL wanna see him do a panic stop!!!

    Crazy sumb*tch even did a V8 version! :ph34r:http://www.diseno-art.com/encyclopedia/str..._monowheel.html
