  1. Almost done assembling my VF-27, but for the love of all that is holy I can't get everything to fit together properly in fighter mode; all I've done is scratch the model up. So I can't comment on the locking tabs.

Going straight to battroid mode for this build. <_<

Interesting, I had no trouble getting mine to fit perfectly nice in fighter mode. Really solid too, you can go *woooosh*whooosh* with it and need not worry about something moving out of place. On the other hand, I found battroid mode to be too fiddly, and gerwalk was almost as nice and tight as fighter mode...

  2. I finished my Alto over the weekend and took a snap of my canopy that I tinted using a mixture of Future and purple drawing ink (sourced from an art store). I'm quite pleased with my results.

The action base stand seems to be doing a good job of holding it up too. A little wobbly if you mess around with it but still well balanced.

Definately want to do a Super Michael and stock Luca to go along with my Ozma and Alto now. Damn these things come up well even by a n00b like me.

Whoa, it looks really nice! I took a couple of pics of mine, I wanted to post them a few days ago, but the damn cable for the digicam was missing... I just want to mention that I didn't use future, just purple chinese ink dilluted in water. Here are the pics:

  3. Ugh!! I should have just gone with a blue tint!! Put me down in the list of people chasing the magic bulltet that is the purple tint.

I had some luck with food dye and future but the tint is barely noticable. Dye can definately be mixed to make purple you just have to use small amounts and blend very slowly. I might try and add some more in or use less future but the danger is that the dye goes a deep plumb colour when you start mixing too much.

Future and Tamyia purple is a confirmed fail. They just don't mix at all and you end up with little globs of purple.

Today I go looking at a party store for straight up purple food die, might also hit up an art store and see what inks they have that I could potentially mix. Failing that I might attack some inkjet refils and see how they go....

Yep should have just stuck with blue :p

I did mine with purple chinese ink, brand is Stafford, but I'm note really sure if they sell it in the States, I'm in Mexico. I'll take a couple of pics tomorrow, as right now the effect won't be fully captured by the camera, but I am really happy with the result, and I didn't do anything fancy, just put some ink in a little cup with water, a dip, some paper towels, and all done.

  4. About RainbowTen. How is their shipping? It looks like unless you use EMS, then you risk losing your order with no re-imbursement unlike HLJ? I asked about shipping and it was 4000yen for the Luca + Super parts for EMS, but only 2000yen for them to be shipped SAL (I think it was SAL). With HLJ, they replace lost orders, which allows me to go with SAL and save $25 b/c I don't really care about speed as long as it arrives. I don't want to order with RainbowTen and either pay $20 to insure my order arrives or risk losing the package (at which point it'd be much cheaper to order with HLJ).

Ummm... where did you read that HLJ will replace lost SAL orders? As far as I remember, in their shipping FAQ it's stated that they are not held responsible for lost items if you don't select to use EMS as your shipping method.

Regarding rainbow ten, I am in Mexico, which has quite the reputation when it comes to lost items, and I haven't had to deal with any lost packages from rainbow ten yet, however, that's well beyond their control.

Packaging wise, they are discreet, and they also pack everything nicely, trying to use the space as best as possible without compromising the safety of your items. Yes, they use newspaper as padding, but hey, it's japanese newspapers! You don't get those often here in the Americas. I think of it as an added value, haha.

  5. Last time when the VF-25F Alto first came up for preorder in RainbowTen, stocks ran out fast, but this was mostly due to Bandai releasing fewer stocks, and they were unable to properly estimate the demand. When the VF-25S Ozma came up for preorder, the stocks lasted a few more days than the Alto. I guess the Macross F kits are just that popular that's why stocks run out fast. But generally if you place an order just a few days AFTER they announce preorder for an item is ok to secure the item. :D

Yep. They handle priority much better than HLJ. They do work on a first come first served basis, which is very nice.

  6. That's the one I'm talking about. My best (only) modelling skill is decaling, and as I said--I'm *very* picky about them as it's the one thing I can do well so I do it as best as I possibly can. Honestly I've done mine better than the pic you posted--but it's still not good enough for my standards.

Heh... sorry to hear that. I was really satisfied with the result given that this is the first time I've ever used water-slide decals, as Zoids and MG Gundams were my only previous experience, and as you probably know, those use stickers and dry transfers, which are much easier to do than decals. Anyway, I hope you get the result you are yearning for, good luck!

  7. Heh heh--EVERYTYHING in those pics in 1/72, including the Ultrasaurus.

I don't mean to go off topic but... OMG, a fellow zoider!

    And going back on topic:

Easier to just not apply the clear parts, then spray. Versus masking them. The whole thing's snap-fit, so it's not a problem attaching parts later or slightly out of order.

PS--I just decaled the 'red triangle on the crotch plate'---anyone gotten this to fit perfectly? I'm up to my "atomic bomb of decal set" and it's still not matching up/conforming quite right at the corners. It actually doesn't seem to be quite the right shape/size in the first place--slightly oversized, and the "curved" upper section shouldn't be IMHO. I considered inking that marking on myself, but figured I'd give the decal a try. (I doubt the sticker would work well at all really--90 degree bends only 1mm thick?)

PPS to anyone decaling---the decals do seem to be "typical Japanese" in that they respond very well to hot water, and not so well to decal set. However, they do respond to decal set better than "previous generation Hasegawa" decals--anything from 2002 or earlier or so.

I am not sure, but perhaps you are talking about the attached pic? I got mine to fit pretty nicely using Mr. hobby "Mr. mark setter", looks pretty nice too... is that the decal you were talking about?

Edit: UGH, forgot to resize the pic... it is a huge file... sorry!

  8. The VF-25's cockpit/canopy looks rather small compared to that of the F-15. I'm assuming they're both the same scale.

Then again the F-15's canopy is pretty darn big compared to most other aircraft anyways.

Yep, that F-15 is 1/72 as well, the other mechs in the picture are 1/72 as well, ZOIDS if anyone is interested. And yes, the F-15 is MUCH bigger and bulkier than the VF-25... It's like the VF-25's chubby distant relative or something like that...

  9. I'm a bit of a noob to Macross Toys and Models so please forgive me.

Where is a good online vendor/website that I could perorder the Ozma kit? I'm assuming its not out yet?

Rainbow Ten is already taking pre-orders for the Ozma version. It's the last item in the bandai section of their model news page:

    http://www.rainbowten.co.jp/english/news/n-release.html

To order, go read this: http://www.rainbowten.co.jp/english/howtoorder.html

    and then go here:

    http://www.rainbowten.co.jp/english/index.html

  10. What other website can be trusted to buy Japanese models that will ship to the US?

HLJ is saying because I have other items on backorder is the reason I did not get the VF-25 that was order on August 8th.

Yet, the only thing that was ordered was the single model without anything else????

    Beaching done

Nice Photo, The view of the Battroid down the gunpod looks great.

I went with rainbowten. I had originally pre-ordered with HLJ, but had an issue with their customer service and cancelled. I'm glad I did after reading some of the nasty things that have happened lately. Rainbow Ten shipped my order the day after the VF-25's release date, and the price was quite low as well(3600 yen).

Shipping via EMS to North America(Mexico) was 3600 yen, and I ordered quite a few things. They are really kind and efficient too. You can't go wrong with those guys.

Unfortunately, they are listing the VF-25 as sold out as well...
