  1. Actually he volunteered and had a workshop on using photoshop. I missed it cause I had to head to SLC but I think he was showing how he creates artwork for HG/RT using Photoshop.

    Beefing?

Tommy is a great guy. Any RT/MW issues are all under the water.

Yes he volunteered and again, it was bad timing. The workshop he led was very much the same as last year's except a bit shorter. Appropriately, Tommy used one of his Minmei/Minmay drawings as the example. I watched him last year and admittedly found his demo somewhat interesting, though I already knew many of the tips he was giving (levels, masks, layers, transparencies, etc). And again, most people were in line for Mari so his audience was very small. I was one of those in line and since I had already seen his demo, I wouldn't have watched it again.

As for RT/MW debates and differences, the attendees of MW Con are class acts and were welcoming, cordial, and discreet.

  2. What a crazy 2 days worth of MW Con eh?? Did everyone have a good time? I sure hope so as i'm EXHAUSTED and i'm 'glad the 10th anniversary of the con was such a success. I have so many people to thank for contributing to an amazing event, but i'll save it for when i can do a full recap.

We didnt' have an official photographer for this year's con so i'd like to ask anyone who came to the convention and took photos or videos of anything to please share with everyone! Post away and lets us know how you liked the con!

Thanks Bee, >EXO<, Maiden Japan, BigKid24, Save, modcineaste, all the volunteers from the UCLA Japanese Anime Club, and anyone I missed for organizing and putting on THE BEST MW Con I've ever been to! Only been to three, but still... The displays were absolutely amazing, categorized and everything! Thanks to everyone who came out and shared their collections! The programs, shirts, and banners rocked! Great events and prizes! And thanks to NightmareB4Macross for a yummy and impressive cake as usual!

Jason and I knocked out on the couch as soon as we got home. Will post pics later! :D

  3. Slightly off topic. While perusing through all this con business, I came across a video from last year. I sing in an a cappella quintet and we're looking for a vocal percussionist. Does anyone know this guy from last year's con?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R53ifiyGq1E

yay! registration closes in 1 minute!!!! i can finally process all the registrants. If anyone didn't register, they can still attend, but will not get a name badge and lanyard.

Funny. Both you and Operator7G (Norge) were at RT25, but sitting at tables on opposite sides of the room! Norge is coming to MW Con tomorrow so maybe you guys can do a duet? ^_^

  4. Finally got the price for the shirt. It's going to be $25 for a full color shirt plus Paypal fees. And it's a $5 flat rate for shipping within the US for the first shirt. Additional charge for shipping multiples. International will vary per location.

    Thanks!

That shirt is AWESOME Alex! Great job!

  5. Nice grabs there Reflex Point. I particularly like the Southern Cross and Mospeada ones. There were a few Southern Cross cels on Yahoo Japan last week I think it was but alas, with no job at the moment I couldn't justify the expense. It has been quite a while since my last cel purchase at all now that I think of it, lol. And yes, the $2.5k boundary is a scary thing to approach, much less the $2k or even $1k. :) I did so for my holy grail but don't think I would again for anything else. Anyways, thanks for sharing. Nice stuff there.

Fortress_Maximus & Mercurial Morpheus: Thanks! And I, too, would like to see your Sentinels cel! :-D

Mokman.... *bows Wayne and Garth style* I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy! Seriously, WOW! What a wonderful collection!!!! Plus a Princess Mononoke too! If my husband and I ever won the lotto, we'd buy a house, travel-travel-travel, and go crazy with cels and Macross toys! :-D I hope things get better for you with your job situation. I was almost in a similar situation several months ago so I feel for you. Hang in there!

  6. So the 2.5k cel finallly sold. I remember seeing that sucker at Fanime for years. Nice collection. I've been meaning to start collecting cels, but haven't gotten to it. The only one i have a one from The Sentinels I won at a Robotech panel.

Yeah, that 2.5K Minmei was from Anime Link. It was displayed Friday, then on Saturday *poof!* Good for the guy for saving up his money for so long! I love cels, but I don't think I could fork out remotely that much.

And hey, there aren't that many Sentinels cels out there and it was free... so you're off to a good start. ;)

  7. There was a 2.5K DYRL Minmei that a fan saved up for 3 years to purchase this year at AX. Great cel and definitely a dedicated fan! My next goal is to get a DYRL Misa and a Houquet/Fuke Eroze from Mospeada. But definitely WAAAAY under 2.5K! ^_^

Otherwise, my husband and I have cels from Rurouni Kenshin, Fushigi Yuugi, YuYu Hakusho, Ninja Scroll, Goldenboy, InuYasha, and various others.

  8. Just seen a few good concert photos over at Japanator. I'm not surprises that most or pretty much every body is smitten with May'n thinking back I was too but I think it was mostly because she was the singing voice of Sherly. After seeing her a few times live I've realized two things, one she can't dance two she not hot. Their PR team associates their liver wardrobe with their anime character's persona which is sad for Megumi. When she does PR junkets for DVDs she's usually in her normal clothes and major hot when she is sporting a pair of shorts let me tell ya.

I'm not saying that Megumi is not hot. Frankly, she was a lot prettier in person at the panel than at the concert and just her persona at the panel made her even more refreshing and beautiful. Both are gorgeous and appeal to different markets! May'n was the better performer IMO and was gorgeous in person as well. Both were absolutely wonderful at the autograph signing and truly tried to connect with each fan. Both made direct eye contact with me (at least) and it didn't appear to be a fleeting, superficial thing. Just by their mannerisms, both appeared appreciative of their American fanbase. It's refreshing to see after living in superficial LA all my life.

  9. Hi everyone! I'm Cheryl, Jasonc's wife. I must say that the May'n & Megumi Nakajima concert really made my AX this year and to have Yoko Kanno perform as the special guest truly made it SPECIAL! I agree with Jason, Seven and Bee (KiriK) that May'n was a much more polished, professional performer than Megumi and really showed her heart and emotions in every song. Megumi really shined during the ballads, with Yoko Kanno accompanying her on piano. I think the tributes to Macross Zero and DYRL played to the fans' heartstrings as well. Ironically, May'n resembled "Sheryl" in her dress, dancing, and performance style and Megumi was a cute combination of "Ranka" and "Minmei", more of a 80's-style pop idol.

I didn't get a chance to attend the May'n panel on Thursday, but the Megumi panel on Saturday was quite refreshing and enjoyable. Megumi demonstrated herself to be really sweet, open, approachable, and definitely likable! From what I understand, May'n was the same in her panel. While signing autographs, I noticed that they both smiled and made eye contact with every fan, making every one of us feel "special". As you will see by her signature, Megumi loves all her fans. hee hee!

Here are some pics I took of Macross cosplayers and Megumi during her panel. (I apologize for the poor quality of the Megumi pics as I didn't have my camera set up to account for the lighting.) No pics during the concert or signings due to the AX/Nokia camera gastapo (though I realize that they're just doing their jobs).

Photos from Friday, July 2nd. Dinner at Yard House after the concert with friends. MW attendees Jason & Mitch. :-)

  10. Yoko Kanno?!?

So. I'm guessing May'n and Megumi will be Concert B.

Firebomber, Mari, Yoko... I'd be happy if it was any of them! (Though I'd really be happy if it was the lead singer of Fire Bomber!)

Where did you find the concert & pricing information? Went to the AX site and couldn't find it. Thanks!

  11. If those are on Sat. as well, I'll be in for seeing them. I don't know how many days I'm going, but I'm gonna at least try for two days.

Better make the 2nd day Friday!!!! I'm requesting that day off from work. Gotta see Sheryl and Ranka perform! :-D That announcement really made my AX!
