  1. Cheers, I enjoyed myself there with the old Tamiya weathering kits
  2. That's a god idea. I'm also trying to add some depth and detail to the old Arii 1/100 Destroids. Did you ever finish your Factory? I'd love to see pictures if you have them. I've had a good look around this forum and can't find many other Factory build up pics. There are a few on the web of course, especially if you search in Japanese, but still not many.

    Armored Factory 1/100 diorama

Here is my Macross Armored Factory diorama.
  4. Thanks. I have a similar story. Here's a pic of my Revell Factory before restoration with it's hand painted enamels and random decal placement! - The bay on the right has had the old paintjob stripped off using oven cleaner - it came up really well. I had loads of Revell Robotech kits back in the 80's - and I built them knowing nothing of the Macross and Dougram stories. It would be decades before I'd get to see the original TV series and learn what these amazing mech designs were all about. My first true experience with Macross however was going into my local model shop and finding an Arii 1/100 Destroid Tomahawk - I was obsessed with Takani's painting on the box. I bought it in the UK in the mid 80's for £1.75 (still has the price label!), which is about $2-3. The wonderful and amazing thing is that model shop still exists with the same owners after 40 years!
  5. I look forward to seeing your pics. I haven't tackled the jeep yet - I have 4 of them to face - My biggest challenge was painting the pipes - I had a lot of problems with that.
  6. Many thanks. I've had these kits for years - I'd open the box, gaze at all the parts - and not know where to start. Then one day I just put together one of those little power unit thingys... and I was hooked.
  7. Here's some progress on my 1/100 Armored Factory. I'm working on a Bandai re-issue kit and an old Revell Robotech kit, I'm restoring the one I had as a kid - so x4 gates in total. For the colour scheme I'm mostly following the original Arii box, but with the yellow cranes from the Revell box build. I plan to add lighting and a roof later.

The Bandai re-release build-up shows the gates removed and fixed to slide open from the centre "Star Trek" style. However, Yoshiyuki Takani's box art from the original Arii release shows the gates swinging outwards as though on giant hinges - who is right? It wasn't until I decided to cut out one of the personnel doors that I realised that sliding "Star Trek" style gates doesn't really make sense (if you pretend this is a real, logical space), as the gate on the right would cover the personnel door. In the end, as I didn't like the original hinged door idea, I decided to make the gates into one solid gate that slides to the left into the space behind the elevated gantry.
