  1. Plus EMS shipping depending on weight over $300. I'll still get it!

The price is around $535 US...and shipping will probably be close to $60...so once everything is said and done, you'll be shelling out close to $600.

  2. How much? :o

Sources at the event are quoting around 50,000 yen...so at the current exchange rate, we're looking at around $535 US. But as unpredictable as the world economy is right now, there's no telling how much this thing will skyrocket in price over the next year (release date is Spring 2010). It could end up costing as much as $800 or as little as $300...

  3. One idea I read from HK is transparent windows that let you see the city from the outside. As you see from the movie screen shot there are two large window on the 'legs', and we can see two rather big holes on the prototype of this toy at the same place. It will need internal lighting for that to work.

I had pointed out earlier that those same windows seem to have panels on the top that look like they could slide down to simulate the fortress going into "safety lockdown". And it also comes with a half-dozen 1/2000 scale VF1s and/or Destroids too. That could be the extent of the gimmicks this thing will have. I'm just glad Yamato was able to fix the main cannon issue that the WAVE version suffers from. There are no open areas on the booms in cruiser mode with this version.

  4. Economic factors ARE something to take into consideration. I was thinking about what Vifam7 said...and he may be right. We're all naive to think that something this big is going to be a mass-production item. A two-foot SDF-1 is most likely going to be a limited-edition item with a hefty price tag. EXO's also right. If this thing ends up being ridiculously cost-prohibitive for those who don't live in the Pacific Rim...then we have two options: 1) get a 1/1000 WAVE version; and/or 2) forget the Yamato version even exists.

But before we all panic about how many of our first-borns we'll have to sell into slavery to get one of these...let's wait for The-Powers-That-Be at Yamato to quote an MSRP on this monster...

  5. By the way...take a look at the tiny Valkyries placed in front of the SDF-1...They look like they may plug into the various launch bays on the ARMDs! 1/2000 scale Valkyries! WOOT! Now, where's my jeweler's glass so I can actually SEE the damned things...

  6. Big! Ooo almost too big! 2ft... Wouldn't fit in the detolf. That's twice as big as my matchbox sdf1. Correct me if I am wrong but that would be a DYRL and not a TV version correct?

You are correct. This is indeed the DYRL version (as stated in the thread title). Easiest way to identify it as such is looking at the "arms" of the fortress. The DYRL SDF-1 features ARMD platforms instead of the Daedalus/Prometheus combo.

  7. Oh.

    My.

Where the hell would I put that thing?!

How big is 1/2000 scale anyways? Is it Fort Max size?

1/2000 scale would be just over 2 feet long in cruiser mode...slightly longer (taller) in Attack mode. That's roughly the same height as my two-year-old!

  8. Is it me, or does anyone else notice that the Macross City viewports may actually have movable armored shutters? I just hope this isn't another case of Yamato Vaporware like the 1/60 Monster several years ago. We get to see the prototype...and that's all we'll ever see.

  9. Call me a loner here, but I never really liked the Quarter for some reason. Dunno if it's the size (or lack thereof) or the overall design. Compared to the older U.N. Spacy vessels, it and any of the newer ships look a little too smooth-hulled to me...like transformable Zentran ships or something.

But maybe this DX version will make me repent...

  10. I think the N stands for "now what do we do" in reference to the hole they wrote themselves into by making the megaroad the SDF-2

That was something I never quite wrapped my mind around either. This is another example of trying to fit something that was obviously supposed to be a spin-off of DYRL into the TV-series timeline. A square peg into a round hole, indeed.

It has been cited on numerous sites that Flashback 2012 was little more than an expanded "full version" of the ending credits from DYRL with a bunch of other Minmay songs thrown in as filler between Parts I and II of the Megaroad Launch montage. But somehow, miraculously, just as the SDF-2 was nearly completed...at the last minute, it is completely stripped down and rebuilt into a completely different ship design altogether? C'mon! Structurally, the two ships don't remotely look similar at all...

If anything, the Megaroad shares more design elements with the New Macross Class than either version of the SDF-1. The only common denominator it shares with the DYRL SDF-1 (or SDF-2 for that matter) is the fact that it has the huge ARMD-like structures port and starboard. It has the same supercarrier design as the New Macross ships...even if it DOES look like a space-going glass window!

  11. I never got the N in SDFN, but I think it's got something to do with Navy.

Actually, you may be on to something here...

Think about it: by 2059, there are literally dozens of Macross/Megaroad/New Macross fortresses, so in essence, they'd comprise a whole navy of ships. The Global would be the fourth dimensional fortress built for the SDF Navy. It's a working hypothesis, at any rate...

  12. It's most definitely Yamato's version of an SDF-1 offering...this is a no-brainer. And since there has never been any "official" launch coverage of the DYRL version, it's most likely going to be the TV-series version. Although I could be wrong about that...considering how Kawamori and Co. have tried their level-best to cobble together all versions of Macross into one universe (DYRL & Zero being "in-universe" movies, TV-style Zentraedi facing off with DYRL-style Zentraedi on Gala 4, TV SDF-1 refitted into DYRL SDF-1, etc.). But as a purist, I'm betting the farm that it'll be the classic TV SDF...

  13. Theoretically though, both the VT-1 and VE-1 could probably be easily configured for combat. And it wouldn't be completely unrealistic for them to carry weapons as many trainers and EW aircraft in the real world do so.

In the DYRL, it seemed Hikaru did have the necessary avionics for combat.

True, its not completely unrealistic to rearm a VT-1 or VE-1 into a combat-ready unit. From all appearances, it looks like all models of DYRL Valkyries use the same standard Block-6 cockpit configuration, whether its a VE-1 or VF-1. That's why Hikaru instinctively began firing at the Zentran power armor chasing his VT-1...to no effect. I'm just speaking in terms of "right off the assembly line," they aren't designed for straight-out combat duty. For one thing, there's no place to put a gunpod on an Elintseeker due to the arm-mounted sensor pods! lol

  14. Bingo. "Variable Trainer-1". The VF-1D was a combat trainer, so it WAS equipped with weapons. The VT-1 is a pure flight trainer, and so it doesn't fit any weapons. Also, the VE-1 doesn't equip any weapons either.

    Vostok 7

And since both the VT-1 and the VE-1 use the same identical fuselage, that makes sense. Neither Valkyrie is combat-rated...but they both possess more powerful engines than even the VF-1S. According to the info I have on the Elintseeker, its engines are so souped up because its used in a capacity where it finds itself behind enemy lines and has to be ready to "turn-and-burn" if detected. But as far as being able to pick up a gunpod in a fight, it wouldn't possess tactical sensors, nor a combat computer to coordinate it. I can assume the same goes for the Super Ostrich too...

However, 50 years later...the VF-25 Messiah Fast Pack system seems to incorporate ELINT ECM/ECCM technology as part of its standard loadout (cat's eye radar, etc.), which makes the dedicated Elintseeker model a bit redundant, IMO.

  15. I'd be disturbed if this small VT-1 exclude weapons and other ordanances!

Well to be accurate, the VT-1 is basically the DYRL version of the VF-1D...its a trainer, nothing more. But in a completely different role than the 1D. It's outfitted with Fast Packs to acclimate new pilots to space piloting as opposed to piloting in an atmosphere. Since it was intended for such a mundane purpose, it was probably not outfitted with a gunpod or missiles. That also explains why the head unit is more in line with the VE-1's "sensor suite" head instead of a combat model like the VF-1A or 1S.

Or another POV could be that this is what will ultimately become the VF-1C Civilian model (as seen in Macross 7's "Space Whale" OVA).

  16. The best part about the V2 VT-1 to me is that it doesn't suffer from the "stubby" undersized rear aerilons like the V1 version did. It actually looks normal in standard fighter mode (without Fast Packs). If the VE-1 uses the exact same body...and doesn't have a permanently-installed radar connector that looks like an oversized tailhook when the FPs are removed, it'll be gold!

On a side note, it COULD be Misa in the back seat. She DID wear one of the orange EVA suits in the Rabbit shuttle along with Minmay's brother Kaifun when they were captured by the Zentraedi. But if it was supposed to be a movie-accurate Misa, she and Hikaru would have come wearing just their duty jumpsuits, not flightsuits.

  17. Your point?

And, anime, official numbers show 900km for DSII: There are discrepancies regarding the size of the Death Star II, which has generated some controversy. The West End Games RPG initially claimed that the second Death Star had a diameter of 160 kilometers. The majority of Expanded Universe material since then has repeated this number, although the Inside the Worlds of Star Wars Trilogy fact book, via detailed scaling of the station in the film and statements by ILM visual effects designer Richard Edlund, show that the second Death Star was actually over 900 kilometers in diameter. The Official Site's Databank updated its article in 2008 to reflect the higher number. Star Wars Insider 105 also included this size. The specifications above may hold some discrepancy as well; these figures are for the "incorrect" undersized version. They would be closer to what would be carried by the first Death Star. The proper figures for the second Death Star may be several orders of magnitude higher.

So, even a bit bigger than what I said... George Lucas doesn't care, but his company does, so what ILM says about it (They built it, dude) goes.

Also, Halo Ring beats Fulbtz Berrentzs... By a magnitude of 10....

LOL...I was joking! Simmer down... ^_^

  18. I'm all for that, but in a little more reasonable scale ^_^

    Vostok 7

Yeah...you're right, its NOT reasonable at all. I just crunched the numbers on a 1/1000 scale SDF-1. It'd be a ship almost 4 feet (just a tad over 3 feet 11 inches, IIRC) in length. I didn't realize it'd grow to such mammoth proportions at 1/1000. I'm gonna say 1/3000 would be a much more managable scale. And the price on such an exhorbitant item---knowing Yamato---would be well into the $1000 to $1200 range.

My wife is a fairly petite 5'1" German gal who'd probably take issue with us having an Attack Mode battlefortress in the house standing nearly as tall as she is...

  19. Call me crazy, but the more I look at the CF-1J, the more it's growing on me. It's canon, yet a variant all at the same time..unlike the completely made-up stealth and lo-vis Valkyries. I have yet to purchase any of the V2 1/60s, but I MAY take the plunge on this one. Like a few others on here, I've been holding out for a V2 Elintseeker, but this is seriously tempting me to change my mind on which to get first.

On a side note, I have a quick question about the V2 1/60s, since I can't seem to find a specific answer in the tons of other threads. The V2s are basically just the 1/48s shrunken down to 1/60 scale, correct?
