  1. After watching a couple episodes here and there, I found myself rolling my eyes for 25 minutes straight. However during episode 1, all I could see what what potential it had... had they just tweaked it from the very beginning the few things there were so... corny... I actually found myself liking the characters, and that it could have been a cool idea without such iffy and well... just plain terrible execution.

Then again, remaking it would put a lot of trust in the ability to keep it along the same path, but removing the flaws it had, and may just end up making both sides hate it. So meh.

Really, it felt like they JUST wanted to make a Macross about a band, but 30 minutes before showtime they went "oh, crap, we need to add mecha!". Which actually IMHO, it would have been better without the focus on it.

  2. As much as I'm anxious to find out the final results from the animation side. You can't really make a judgment on a low-resolution stream as far as draw quality. <_< Shows a heavy bias. I'm not saying it can't be bad, actually from all the talk I'm expecting it, but at least get some valid media first.

Dude, don't even bother trying to discuss this "CG issue" with them in any rational way. The more I hear bitching about it, the more I realize how little they actually understand. Around these parts, CG (and can you even call computer painting of hand drawn cells "CG"? ) has become a shorthand on these board for some of the laziest yet most vitriolic bitching and moaning this side of the internet.

Can you call a VF-1 an airplane?

It's a hybrid IMHO, part CG part not. Personally I think CG should be used, it can apply algorithms that would take ages to do for a human by hand, and do it at a better quality.

  3. Had the ASS-1 fallen in 1999, I'd have grown my hair, dyed it blue and changed my name to Maximillian Jenius, this way I know I'll be shacking it up with a fine looking green haired meltran ace in a couple of years.

Ah I'd more be going along the lines of dying my hair green and bow down to our Zentradi overlords.

  4. i think AIA-IZ version is better.

not that AIA-IZ is perfect, but it is closest to perfect. they made mistake, i notice they call alto skull 5. ok, the other just translated, AIA-IZ translated and change to closest english sentence.

gattai is fast, but i hate mkv, because i use windows and mac, not linux - mkv work best on linux.

on vlc gattai mkv is very shaky. not good, gattai members use linux. if they use windows, they would do something about it.

Gattai looks fine to me in Media Player Classic on Windows.

  5. In Japanese they say something like "yasashi shite" which is "please be gentle". Makes sense since the VB-6 obvioulsy tears up anything it walks on or fires from.

The translation I had trouble with was when Sheryl says "bunka shiteiru?" in Japanese but its translated as "Are you being cultural?". I think that she actually asked: "Do you know culture?"

Well I stand corrected then. :p

Guess the Gattai subs aren't that bad?

  6. Ugh having a real difficulty between the video I streamed last night, and the video I downloaded tonight...

I really doubt the Dulfim would ask the VB-6 to be gentle =\ "I'll leave it to you" seems a little more plausible considering they're being rescued. Also mixing song lyrics and character speech on the same part of the screen with the same font bugs me.

Anyway, dumping all my Veoh downloads for nice high-rez Gattai releases. :)

    Edit:

Err, now I'm thrown between Gattai (Good quality but iffy subs?), GG (slight reduction in quality, less iffy subs) or AiA (much larger reduction in quality, unknown sub quality).

    Humph. :(

  7. I'm just thinking. maybe she goes for the holosuit when she takes on her fast paced and effects-heavy songs. but when she goes for the ballads, she uses good-old actual clothes. i assume the concert is long enough for several costume change breaks, so she sometimes wears the holo-suit, and sometimes wears real clothes.

now, i have to watch the ep again. if sheryl actually wears real clothing at one point, and then immediately shifts to a holo-costume in the very same scene, then there might have been an animation mistake.

but then again, as gubaba pointed out, when you get a panty shot, who cares??

    Better explanation:

    A wizard did it.

  8. Well I didn't vote negative, but there were a couple of things that didn't make it the "most amazing episode ever" for me/ It was going really good until the whole Macross Quarter sequence... thats where I thought they went downhill fast. It seemed to me be something more appropriate for Gurren Laggan than Macross. Up until this point Macross bent the laws of physics in alot of places, but this really took a willing suspension of disbelief to watch it accelerate to high speeds in seconds and weave around as if it were big valkyrie. Up until this point warships were represented as fairly static units that carried massive amounts of weaponry. You could make the argument that it was like that in DYRL... but this seemed so much more contrived and unbelievable.

Well you got to remember, the Macross in DYRL was what? 5 times the size? If not larger than the Quarter is.

Err, I just play it at half speed and I'm happy.

  9. Like I said, the Macross II mecha was simply a low priority, but I am going to feature a section for it. If you look at the history of the Macross Mecha Manual, you'll note that not all the anime shows had sections for the longest time. It takes a while to do all this work. Nonetheless, Macross II will make an appearance next update, which I'm hoping to release very soon.

    Oh very awesome then.

Also great job on the site, I really enjoyed looking up ships and getting information on them. :D

  10. I have nothing against including Macross II on the M3, it's just the lowest priority of the franchise. I also have no access to Macross II line art and I don't think briscojr84 does anymore either. I'm also very unfamiliar with Macross II. I saw it only once or twice years years ago and didn't like it (thus I don't own it). The near total lack of official statistics for the MII mecha also makes building profiles very hard. It's likely worth doing a proper profile for the VF-2SS (especially because of fan interest). I might do a rudimentary section that just features one b&w drawing of each Macross II mecha and very short profiles, like the VEFR-1 profile but without the stats or text. There's just so little to work with; I think Kawamori put more thought into the official mecha statistics of the Flashback 2012 music video than the creators of Macross II gave for their whole anime :(

Dang, a little disappointed here, as much as it's practically unbearable to watch for me, now that I understand the story line (blargh!), I definitely wanted to touch base with some ships and scenes from the movie without you know... having to hunt down and watch it... Though it's understandable, I can't find anything on the net about Macross II. I think it should be added on the site FAQ, being as I was really confused about why there was no Macross II material, the site didn't mention it period... was wondering if Macross II was just an entire delusion (it may be better that way). Hit the site from page 1 through google looking up the atmospheric escape booster, and dug around a bit. Decided to come back here to see what this site had to offer in terms of Macross II material, and lo and behold, found this thread.

Also would you by chance have ever worked on a Homeworld Macross project?

Err and totally bumping a couple month old thread. ;P
