  1. Aw c'mon, that steals the fun of it. Logistically that raises an interesting question... how would you get horses to some outpost planet (and in some feasible manner)? Were they indigenous horse-like creatures? If they were real horses with armor then I imagine they'd wear armor similar to their rider's. Ooh, did the marine ride a seahorse??

Simple... get the Serenity to fly them in, they've transported horses before.

But seriously, am I the only one who actually thinks robot horses are cool, and oh so very 80s?

  2. As for implants, they could be removed and replacements could be designed to suit the final size. It shouldn't be all that hard, especially since micloning is a process that I would think is far more difficult to achieve by comparison.

It's hard to do in the Robotech universe... they took away my cool faceplate and gave me a bucked to wear.

  3. do we know for sure if it's a fighter? After All Namco Vs Capcom was a strategy RPG.

And I wonder, if it does indeed have Macross, Southern Cross and MOSPEADA characters (or any of the three) if it will be changed to Robotech characters for the the English release... infact they might not be able to have Macross characters in the Japanese version, but include them a english language exclusvie characters under the Robotech brand... that would be interesting.

  4. EDIT: *I just looked up. Yep, those were indeed some of the pics from the old booklet. I wonder if anyone has a scan of the whole thing...Mine might still be lying around in a box in my Dad's garage...

    Something like this?

I didn't scan it obviously missing some pages and some duplicate pages but still.

  5. I'm more concerned with what they do with the left over matter when a person is reconstituted in the Miclone process.

Break it down to be reused when someone needs to reverse it? Law of Conservation, it has to to come from somewhere!

  6. I think that the Miss Macross competition in Macross Frontier was inspired by the Miss Macross Competition in the SDF:M series.

    Taksraven

(I know that responses like that make baby Jesus cry, but.........)

Really, well I think Lanka's rendition of "My Boyfriend Is a Pilot" was inspired by Minmay!

  7. The Lensman series had powered armor in the later installments.

It also got an anime adaptation at some point, though I've never seen it.

There was an anime TV series and movie... and if you like the sanctity of the books you'll skip both. But if you want to there's three dub versions out there...

A HAXOR dub of the TV series called "The Secret of the Lens" produced by Harmony Gold... the edits that they make to the story oddly make it closer to the books.

A Harmony Gold Dub of the movie with the original soundtrack dumped and music from Robotech II the Sentinels used instead (I'm not even joking)

and a streamline pictures dub of the movie (that keeps the original music, which is pretty awesome)

The movie also features gobs of horrible 3D animation.

Anyway back to the topic of mecha books... hmm, surely some steampunk novels have to have something?

Edit: back off topic... if you're interested in the Lensman anime here's the opening for the TV series http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NY6WXiSxLcE and here's the intro to "The Secret of Lens"

  8. But if people really want justification for there being no mobile phones in SDF-1, well... with all the construction technology the macross citizens were so adept at, it just so happened that not a single one of them had any idea how to put up a celsite/cel tower. so long celphones. :p

Actually you got it all wrong, the reason is that UMTS/HSPDA signals in the 2100 Mhz bandwidth used in Asia interfered with several key systems on the SDF-1 and thus were forbidden... in their place the robot phones were developed as a way you could track someone down with a phone because they worked on another technology and another frequency.

  9. U cant do Thundercats without Mumra!

Ive long wondered why such a fan-favourite series has been so dead the last few years, especially with the 80s revival of the last 5 years or so.

Well it did get a Wildstorm comic about the same time as Masters of the Universe and Robotech... But from the little bit I read it had nice art and colors, but the story was almost non-existent.

  10. That is funny. What file extension is .ass? I would like to create a program who's file extension was .douchebag or .orgasm

There was a program called substation alpha which was used for creating subs it made .ssa ... newer versions are called advanced substation or .ass

And remember whe watch a show where the ruling gov decied that ASS-1 was a great name to call an alien ship before rebuilding it.

  11. try putting them in the same directory as your file and give them the same file name so if it's a sub file for MacrossF01.avi then name the sub file MacrossF01.ass and most players will pick it up... of course you could use a program like mencoder (command line) or virtual dub (gui) to hard-encode the subs onto the file... but that method should work.

and yes this is the wrong forum.

  12. Okay Macross TV show that the enlarge or shrink Zentradi when they are naked. Might have to do with the Terminator rule of Organic matter only.

Say a giant Zentradi swallows a giant sized coin. It is a trick he does. Normally passes right through him a day later. For some reason he forgets to make a BM before jumping in the sizing chamber. When he shrinks wouldn't that coin rip his micronized body right in half!

Depends on how the miclone process works, a lot of people speculate that the body is recreated or recloned on a smaller scale, then the coin would probably jsut drop out of the bigger body...

on the other hand if it works on the Termie principle... it seems metal can come back as long as it's got fleshy wrapping around it... after all Termies are metal.

  13. yes, exactly thats why I love Storm Shadow... you forgot to point out how Snake got all huffy about Storm Shadow killing animals to hone is super-ninja-hearing what let's him shoot through walls. It's like if I moved in with a friend who played the drums, and told him if he practiced his drums I'd hate him forever!

Seriously though, Tommy A. is just a much more human character and more interesting where Snakey is just too perfect.

Even in a silly side story like Arashikage Showdown, Tommy shines much more brightly where he personally disposes of the sun stone to keep it out of the hands of people who would abuse it...

But then there was that horrible Ninja DVD where Tommy just acted like a total arse during his and Snake-eye's final tests and betrayed the clan, just because he was jealous.

but yeah, over all Tommy A rocks.

  14. Seriously? In the Marvel run I don`t remember that. I remember him getting surgery so he didn`t have to wear a mask but they couldn`t give him new vocal chords after they were burnt out by AV-gas in that accident.

it's been a horribly long time since I read it, but I remember the Baroness (or someone, maybe it was Dr. Venom was he still alive at that point?) saying how she was going to undue the surgery... or something. I need to recollect and re-read all the comics.

  15. Snake Eyes wasn't actually a mute, he just didn't talk.

I myself liked Snake Eyes from day one up until the point he became an uber ninja. He was just so much neater to me when he was an elite commando... then again I'm not a big fan of the "white ninja" story arc that was heavily overused in the '80s. Back then it seemed like any white guy with a Michael Dudikoff haircut could become a ninja.

Oh no, he was actually mute at one point then he got surgery that fixed it... but still didn't talk.

  16. I don't get it, what do you mean?

I mean, I don't like Snake-eyes himself as a character. I only like him at all cause he's Storm Shadow's opposite number, and because of the character interaction between the two of them (I know it's supposed to be the other way around... you're supposed to like Snake-eyes and by extension be interested in Storm Shadow's plight because it affects him). But yeah... for me Storm Shadow is the much more interesting of the two, and without Tommy A. I wouldn't care about Snake at all.
