  1. Just been putting some finishing touches on my VF-0S kit.

    It is 99% complete now.

Light condition is very poor, but I couldn't resist taking some pictures.

I messed up at quite a few places, but I am happy to own a completed VF-0S batt. :)

I might still try to fix up one or two of the more major mistakes. The picture is very poor, but what do you guys think?

Warpaint22, you have build quite a few of this kit, what do you think of my work?

I will take some better pictures when it is sunny. Hopefully you will be able to see better to give some helpful comments that will help my next project.

Excellent work! Im moving along slowly on mine. Seeing yours finished is motivating. Did you have to rescribe the panel lines on the legs? On mine where i fixed the seams, I lost alot of the panel line detail. Im just afraid to attempt rescribing anything cuz I dont want to screw it up.

  2. Looking good and I guess you are having fun. :)

Good progress so far. I took months to get to where you are now. I am just too slow.

I am about to put some finishing touch to the VF-0S that I am working on and I think this is a great model.

Do you get the feeling that you can't wait to see the finish product? :) I do. And that causes me to rush and result in mistakes. I hope you are a more patient man than me.

Not sure if this is the effect you are aiming for, but I notice that you paint finish is a bit on the grainny side.

I normally like to get a smoother finish, so I try to thin my paint much more then normal. This way I do have to paint more layers/coats, because each only lay down very little paint, but it turn out smoother.

But for a battoriod, some grainny surface with some right weathering looks great too. Muck like a tank or heavy armour does.

Hope you will continue to have fun.

Thanks for the tip! ^_^ I did notice that it looked like that , but I thought it looked good. Gave it a bit of texture. Im going to try and do some of the pin striping today.

  3. Had some time to do a lil prepping tonight. Figured I try out my D-cam on the tri-pod. Test out the macro. I used a toothpick, new exacto blade, tamiya masking tape, with blue painters tape. Also wore latex gloves. The tamiya tape wasnt that sticky, so it was easy to manipulate. Included a shot of one of the legs with pre-shading. Used flat black for that. Then airbrushed in small coats with flat white till I recieved desired amount of shading.

  4. Looks perfect awesome job, for drying it depends... flat colours dry very fast so a few hours can be enough, I tend to leave flat painted items for a minimum of about 24 hours but I find a couple of days is best to let the paint harden. Nothing worse than doing a really nice paint job then scewing it up with finger prints. It would be ideal now only to handle the pieces with latex gloves to avoid oil and grim from your skin as this can affect paint. Awesome work!!!!!

Yeah my wife got me a whole box of latex gloves from work. I'll be using them all the time now. How long do you usually let the future dry? Also, when is a good time to start the panel washing? Thanks again for the support!

  5. Ok so here it is. My first attempt at doing the pre-shade weathering. I thought it turned out pretty damned good! ^_^ I did all the seam filling and wet sanding. Then did the pre-shade with Tamiya Flat Black. After it dried for a lil while I went over it in small coats with Tamiya Flat White. How long should I let it dry before I put a coat of Future on it??

  6. Ok so I stopped working on my 1/100 scale valkryie, for now  I just couldn't resist the temptation to begin working on this battroid. I started out by putting together some body parts as you can see in the picture. They can be broken down into smaller parts for later when I go to paint them. Im going to keep going forward with putting together what I can and then I will start fixing all the seams and do all the tedious sanding. <_<

  7. I do agree

I would suggest calling them and tell them what you are looking for. They have thousands of models. Not alot of Macross though. I had to do some digging when I was there.

  8. Looking nice so far - my local hobby store has this kit, but they want $60 for it. I guess it's not too much more than the cost of importing it, but I'm not ready to drop the cash for it yet. I guess I need to finish my other kit first anyway.

60 bucks!!! Wow I got mine for 12 dollars! :o

  9. Okay so here it is. My first attempt ever at masking and then airbrushing. Turned out ok. ^_^ There are some bad spots here and there, but nothing a lil touchup wont take care of. I'll have to remember from now to glue, fill, sand before I prime or paint next time  I'll put some more pics up soon.

  10. I just got my Vf-0S and Battroid in the mail the other day. I will be doing the 0S first. Im just stumped on what I should do first. Im thinking about gluing first and them filling/sanding. Then priming. But I dont know what I should do from there! Anyone else here that has built this model could give me some advice on what they did. I want to do this right and I want it to look good. I dont care how long it takes! Thanks for the help everyone.

oh btw..i already washed all the parts in dish soap and let them dry and packed them back up.

  11. I use mr. surfacer 500 or 1000.

    The grey colored one.

I have also tried to de-can a spray can auto-paint primer and thin it and use it with my airbrush.

    What primer are you using?

Ill look into those! I am using Duplicolor sandable primer white. I hear Plastikote is good spray can primer.

  12. It is easy to cover up some panel line when paiting or priming. Especially when using spray can primer.

I hate it when it happen. I do not have the skill to rescribe most panel lines.

For this Arii kit, the panel line are thicker (compared to a Hasegawa kit) and it is not so bad (harder to lost and easier to recover).

Now that you have your airbrush, maybe doing priming using your airbrush will be better.

I find that thinning down the primer and apply it using an airbrush give me much more control.

It might be too thin to give good filling (when this is needed, I try to do more layer or don't thin the primer so much), but great in avoid filling in fine panel line, especially during second priming after some sanding (where I just want to have a very thin covering to let me know if the surface is smooth).

Looks like you are having fun. :) That is important.

Thanks! What do you use for primer in your airbrushes??

  13. Okay so I re-primered some areas after some sanding. Went with a white primer this time. I think I lost some detail of the panel lines but oh well. Just added some more parts on today and did a lil more sanding. Some big seams im going to have to fill here! <_< Thanks everyone for all the encouragement. I need it! Oh yeah I almost forgot....I got my airbrush kit today! :D Thanks Don! Should be interesting to see how things turn out.

  14. Looks like you're off to a great start. If you can eliminate the seams on those kits then you've pretty much got it beat. Is that the kit for Millia's fighter? Will you be going with the recommended paint scheme or a custom?

Thanks for sharing your work and welcome back to the fun! I hope to see it when you're finished.

Yeah it is Millia's fighter. Im trying to get rid of the seams. What method and tools do you use for getting rid of the seams? Im just going for recommended paint scheme for now. Not confident enough to do anything custom.

  15. Awesome! I'm in the same boat right now, only it's just been a few years since my last model. I decided to brush up with a Gundam model, since they're abundant and cheap. I've got a Super Valkyrie on the way that I'll start on once I am ready. I've learned so much about modeling from this and other websites - it's like a whole different world than when I was little! Back then I just put the thing together, did a little detail paint, and set her up

I know! This website is great! So many great modelers on here that dont mind helping

  16. This is my first model in about 15 years. I wanted to start out with something cheap so I picked up this 1/100 scale at the local hobby shop. They didnt have much for Macross kits but it was cheap and I figured I could use some practice before I got my VF-0S Valkryie and Battroid. Ill be posting more progress pics along the way till its finished!
