  1. Huh no they don't. They just said Mao had a grand-daughter. It's heavily|/b] implied it's Sheryl of course, but it's never stated *explicitily*... which is my point really, it doesn't *need* to be stated explicitily for something to be true (even if there are a lot of people on the internet who can't seem to accept anything as fact if they're not beating on the head with it  )

    -Sergorn

Same hair color, same earrings, same name, seems pretty obvious to me. :p

  2. I liked the episode,

It's confirmed that Sheryl is Mao's granddaughter( I don't know if it already was, the name was a big flag ), I wonder who Sheryl's mother was and how Sheryl got onto the streets. I'd like to see more of Sheryl's past.

. Feel bad for Sheryl being outmatched by Ranka in the Vajra-control department, Ranka just needs to.....go away and Sheryl be happy.

like i said way back somewhere in the single digit pages... hime is EVA in his ex-gear right now. either he is gonna make like a small piece of debris (mac+ Isamu style) to sneak his way past the vajra lines, or somehow is gonna be in just the right spot to be picked up by the quarter when it arrives so he can hop into his true ride and go pwn certain ppl.

thats my theory and I'm sticking to it ^_^

I like your theory, would make sense since he more or less knows he can't beat Brera head to head and made a plan just in case.

Anyone have some corruption with the GG sub? It happens when there's Japanese symbols overlayed on the rest of the action.

edit: Also, what's with future battle strategy?... Charge in with Island-1?! What are they thinking? How could they consider that a good idea? Also: Why don't the humans bring out the big guns right away? Suddenly all the Vajra decide to pull back and fire all at once and it's hits for massive damage?! Bah!.... *throws arms into the air*

  3. The discussion between Alto, Klan around 19:25 of ep23 left me completely confused. He said he joined the SMS to protect Ranka,

but he's willing to kill her to protect Fontier

? and Klan cries a bit?... And Sheryl lets a tear go. I'm lost. Can someone spell it out for me? It looks like Sheryl kind of conceded the triangle? Or is it just of what Alto's willing to do?

  4. For me, Zero is my favorite and I think has the best dogfights for a couple reasons. Zero has the perfect opening and introduction to Variable Fighters. Let's assume you've never heard of Macross or Variable Fighters or Mecha or anime or anything that could expand your imagination and I told you there was an entire series based around F-14's and other fighters that transform into robots and chicken walkers, would you think I'm crazy? Why would you need a fighter to transform into a robot or a chicken walker? That's where Zero absolutely nails it. Open up with F-14's taking on MiG's, fighters that are certainly capable of doing some damage( Were Macross to be updated, I say to have F-22's taking on Su-47's because they are the modern fighters ), but they're limited. Sure the F-14 has the Phoenix missile and the MiGs can handle like no other, but they fill one particular role and even then, cannot perform extreme maneuvers. Show the usefulness of being able to transform into a battroid and gerwalk by having a Variable Fighter take on F-14s and absolutely decimate them. What's interesting though is a variable fighter can more or less replace an assault helicopter like the Apache using gerwalk and provide close support through battroid and air superiority though fighter mode.

What I like about Zero is the escalation of the use of all the different modes of a Variable Fighter and how well grounded in reality the OVA is( Compared to the rest of the franchise ). If I were to introduce someone to Macross, I think I'd do it with Zero because of the ramping up it does, plus once they're open to the idea of ridiculous maneuvers, combat decisions and everything transforming, psychological warfare through singing might not seem so ridiculous :)

I'd have to put M+ second too, I didn't care for the story, but seeing so much care and attention put into the dogfights, all hand animated is something very special.

  5. I gotta say, that would be the most depressing way you could possibly end the show, ever.

What can I say? I love the downer endings, they reinforce how much you've invested and cared about that character.

Edit: Would it be a fair balance if Alto was in his 80's and it's clear that he an Sheryl lived a long and happy life together?

well if they didn't drag out the character and plot development, they wouldn't be able to make a second season. :p

I just don't think enough was done with the time that they had because even with the time they had, a well developed antagonist wasn't really developed. We know Grace and Co. are doing something behind the scenes, but we've been in the dark too long and not enough information has come through; The Vajra aren't really very interesting villains either.

To get back on topic of who wins Alto's heart, I'm banking on Sheryl since he's finally realizing how important he is to Sheryl. That's not to say he's not important to Ranka, but the same level of need and finding 'the one' isn't there.

  6. I doubt it's all a flashback...unless it's actually Sheryl's life flashing before her eyes and it all fades away and Alto is there holding her and the screen fades to black as though it's her eyes closing and the credits roll with the saddest song you've ever heard...Now that's an ending, that's how I'd end a series, especially if everyone already knows the character will die, which we do. If you can make someone sad even though they've known for some time that the character was invariably going to die, then you've done a good job. My gripe is that I'm just now starting to grow attached to some of the characters and it's 22 episodes in, it feels like there were so many episodes wasted without solid development.

I DIDN'T DO IT! YOU CAN'T PROVE ANYTHING! In fact...I bet it was YOU! YOU DID IT! KILL DREAMWEAVER13!!!

    Let us burn the witch!

  7. I predict Gubaba doing an NGE's Shinji on Asuka-like comatose Nanase

    Wow. Ew.

I think it's a very real possibility for a 'magic' ending to save Sheryl. Frontier will make it to the Vajra homeworld and it is discovered that the Vajra mega-queen or Ranka can save Sheryl, but somehow it will have to be by Ranka's hand.

  8. yup! i'm guessing someone also pointed that out before (if no one did, kudos to you! ). in fact, is it just a coincidene that Klan tries to wake up alto's feelings for sheryl while they're looking out a space window, much like the scene where claudia tries to give hikaru some "hints" about misa? ;)

EDIT: My 1000th post! yey! Global, let me hold that pipe for you!

I haven't seen Claudia mentioned in this thread, but I wonder if someone *did* mention it elsewhere...interesting stuff.

I can stretch the parallels quite a bit here: Misa was already established into her position, much like Sheryl is and Minmay was the discovered, up and coming star, much like Ranka...

  9. For what it's worth, Misa was older than Minmay, Sara was older than Mao...see where I'm going with this? I'm hoping it's Sheryl because she found someone who treats her like a normal person rather than a superstar and that's something really important to her and I think Alto is beginning to realize this.
