  1. Fun episode! I felt the Gundam vibe when Brera faces Alto in virtualspace, with Ranka there as well. What I mean is, there's a scene in the original Gundam series where Amuro Ray faces off with Char Aznable, (with Char's girl Lalah Sune there too) and with their Newtype powers they form a visual, psychic connection. Then Amuro accidentally kills Lalah, and I hope Alto doesn't kill Ranka... though he said he would if he had to.

Also, the assault on Reflex Point, er, the Vajra hive. I'll be disappointed if the Frontier fleet fires all its MDE warheads and the Vajra Queen takes off like the Refles did in Mospeada, taking her children to a higher plane of existence, or something.

  2. Oh, for the love of God, NO!!!

The original DTESS is a great movie, a classic of sci-fi, and a pretty strong critique [sci-Fi does tend to lend itself wonderfully as a vehicle for social commentary] of McCarthyism, Cold War paranoia, and of course, the proliferation of atomic/nuclear weapons and mankind's seeming determination to pitch itself headlong toward eventual self-destruction.

These remakes are almost invariably soulless, unimaginative hack-jobs, completely lacking any of the individual touches that the majority of the originals' directors put into [be it the cinematography, underlying themes, or-what-have-you] their respective works, which is [usually] what made the movies great in the first place.

I know it'll never happen, but I do so wish critics and moviegoers alike [i.e. through their spending power] would stop condoning this not so subtle lobotomy of the moviegoing experience. Someone ought to just sit up in the most public of forums and call these guys out, point blank: "You guys are a bunch of bums, you know that? Do you even study the source material before you go hacking it up and dumbing it down? You're like CliffsNotes for movies."

Interesting... there's something in that YouTube trailer similar to something in Macross Frontier ep. 13, specifically at 1:22, an expanding force rips apart buildings and vehicles.

"My name is Klaatu. Whoa." I agree with your views, but it ain't gonna happen. Money (and the chance to make more of it by exploiting a proven concept) rules.

Now, the upcoming Highlander remake? Get out of my wallet, you Hollywood freaks!

  3. I have a feeling that the vajra steals DNA from local fauna and creates weapons out of them. Wasn't the cutesy monster that Alto pointed his gun at while hugging Ranka the same thing in the stasis-tube on the Global? Another form of Vajra perhaps?

Ranka is still a mystery....probably her scientist parents decided to make her swallow the activation code for Vajra-invasion-program or whatever when she was young. Silly scientists...always entrusting their kids with the key to mankind's salvation.

What, like the Zerg? "Spawn more Overlords!"

And Ranka is like Kerrigan in Starcraft? I mean, where she's infested with Zerg DNA into a Zerg/human hybrid, then becomes Queen herself?

I don't even want to think about that... Poor Ranka!

  4. Ah, if that is a character from Mac7 then that is why I don't know who it is. If from something else, I guess I just forgot.

From Bubblegum Crisis, she was a police officer who was also one of the Knight Sabers vigilantes, and able to get classified police info. In the same way, Luca can acquire special items, though I don't expect him to do it very often. Some fans see Nene as a "lightweight," there to scream and flail wildly at the enemy.

  5. My theory, which you can laugh at all you want:

Major Ogatai says, "We've been making our culture for half a century." I think this involves creating a Culture amusement park, complete with a full-scale Macross replica. Sadly, this venture was doomed to failure due to the numerous space-fold faults. The tourists didn't come, and the park was abandoned.

Those Zentradi laid off from the park were desperate, until Sheryl's manager Grace contacted them with a business proposal: seize the reaction warheads, create a great fireworks show, and the Culture park might reopen.

What do you think, sirs? :p
