  1. Thank you all for your input and compliments. I had thought about whether to paint it or not. But now the more I see it "unpainted" on the shelf here in my room, the more I'm intrigued in seeing it with paint. Now if I do decide on it, I wonder where I could get a good example of what it should look like. I know that there are lots of variants out there on the net as well as in books. So if you have suggestions, please let me know. Again thanks for sharing your interests!

  2. Hello Macrossfans! I like to take this opportunity to show you my latest custom project that I finished here recently, the Mac II Destroid. This project was something I wanted to do for years but had it on the backburner, with other interest clogging my time. It was until recently I decided to start on it and make it a reality. This was an off and on thing, so I will say it took me about 2 to 3 months to complete. The Mac here is made entirely out of cardboard. I tried to give it a scale compariable to my 7inch Destroids as you can see in some of my pics. I'm not too sure whether I got it right, but I would assume close. The arms and legs can be swiviled to a certain degree. Both the legs and arms as well as the cannons can be removed. As for what I used as reference, one book, The Robotech RPG from Palladium Books. So this is not an "exact" representation but again close. Painting is an option. As I look at it now, with what is is made out of, I see the beauty in it and a complete piece.

Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

  3. Here are a few pics of my painted A.R.M.D platforms. They are not really completed. I just wanted to show how far I've gotten. :p

I'll keep you all posted on the progress.

Again thanks for all the compliments! I try my best at what I enjoy doing! :D

  4. Well I finally finished the construction of the A.R.M.D platforms. These look alot better in scale now than those I had earlier. Also I added more detail since they were slightly bigger. Now all I have to do is paint.

    Can't wait! :D

  5. Thanks! I just went pretty much by eye using my resin SDF-1 Macross. I broke it down to sections starting with the legs and went from there. By having this starting point I was able to size the rest in the right proportions. I did have to remake a few pieces to get it right. One for example is the A.R.M.D platforms. My first set I thought was in the right proportions but once I completed the rest of the ship, they were smaller than what they suppose to be. So I had to build another set and these came out perfect. Unfortunately this mistake was a set back upon painting and completing the thing before the end of the year as I anticipated. :(

  6. All that from regular snacks boxes. The more pictures you post the more Im impressed.

Im thinking snack boxes and Cornflakes boxes are our friends now certainly cheaper than Styrene sheets. Also easier to get passed the missus as she buys the things anyway.

Thank you! I've always been into cardboard since I created my first project, "The Arcadia", from a Captain Harlock movie way back in the days. I know that in the past where as I posted some other customs, I had people then insisting that I should try out styrene. I know that it would be awesome to be able to make my customs out of it, and actually tested it out, but I just feel more comfortable with cardboard. Don't get me wrong! Styrene is a great material to build customs and such. It's just that cardboard is common material I'm use too. During construction on each of my projects, I try to expand my knowledge on just how far I can go with it. Do new things that I haven't tried before. :p And your right big F, it is way cheaper than styrene. Heck, I do occasionally get some of my material free from where I work. :D

  7. Uh..............DAMN!!!

How tall is it without the main guns in firing position?

    <Darth Vader-style>: Most impressive indeed!

It's about a little over 2 foot in height and about 9 inches across from

shoulder to shoulder(excluding the rail guns).

  8. i can picture the cannons aiming at the zentradi fleet, gloval at the bridge, pipe smoking.... "fire on my command..... DIG'EM!" pummeling the enemy forces with a deadly barrage of sweetly puffed rice goodness.

not sure if it'd help, but way back in middle school, we used to make fingerboards (skateboards for your fingers) out of cardboard. a great trick to stiffen the cardboard was to put super glue all over it, basically soaking it. perhaps it could be useful for areas where the cardboad needs more structural solidity.

fantastic job on the sdf-1! any plans for a TV version? i've got an empty box of fruity pebbles that you could borrow :p

I'm seriously thinking about it. ^_^ And thanks but I already have plenty of cereal boxes. :D

  9. Hey Kish, I'm curious, did you have a set of drawings blown up to work from or did you just use the line art as is? could you post pics of the images you used for ref. The proportions look relly great that's why I'm asking.

(Also looking for a litttle insight into your process);)

I did all this by eye using a 1/4000 scale resin kit from Yellow Submarine. Originally I had already built the A.R.M.D platforms a year ago and never had a chance to finish the rest of it. So by using the platform and the kit, I came up with this scale. Unfortunately the scale came up a little off and had not notice it till I was almost done. :o I know for some here you would think it's perfect, but by comparing it to the kit, the platforms are smaller than they suppose to be. Right now I'm in the process of building another set to match in scale. (see pic below)^_^

As far as the process, I take a project and consider it like a "do it yourself" model kit minus the pieces. It's like taking a model kit you have, open it up and toss out everything that was in it. What's left is what you use....the box. Using a good guide to go by, you draw, cut, and glue your own pieces together. ;)

  10. Well here is a pic of my custom SDF-1 Macross DYRL. The whole thing is made mostly out of cardboard with a few exceptions. It has a few pieces of plastic that I added. The most noticable pieces are the arms(purple). Those pieces came from an existing transformer. I had intentionately wanted to make the whole thing out of cardboard but I didn't know how to approach on that area in which to customize it to do what I wanted it to do. So I dug into my scrapbox and found the perfect pieces. There are movable parts hence the purple pieces. I'm able to move and poise the arms where I want them. The other are the main cannons. I can poistion them in "firing mode" or "attack mode" as most would know it as. Also in the pics you will notice how big this thing is. I place my 1/48 valk with pack beside it to show you the comparison.

Believe it or not, right now this is about 98% done. I know that it looks done minus the paint but some small detail still needs to be completed. I plan on "hopfully" have it completely done, paint and all by the end of the year. Until then these pics will have to do for now. Enjoy! :D

  11. Well, I guess it will come sooner than I thought. :D I am about finished with the last detail with the command tower(head). I'll try getting pics up under this or new topic later this week.

  12. Yup! I'm back with a new custom. This one is straight from scratch and will be my Holy Grail of custom Macross. Since this nontranformable version is the

size that it is, it will be the most detailed version I've ever done on a custom. Now I'm sure that most of you are thinking "how big is it"? Well lets just say that it is bigger than your 1/48 valks(with pack)! :o

  13. Great job on the Decals the cockpit looks good.

Heres what became of trying to figure out where to put a bunch of stuff

when theres not enough room in the closets.

If you need more room, I'll be glad to give up my space. Just send some of those collections to me. I'll take good care of them. Hell, I won't even charge storage fee! :D

BTW Your collection is awesome! Sometimes I wish that when I walk in my room, I see this.

  14. Well I'm glad to see that someone finally decide to take the initiative to produce a complete transformable DYRL SDF-1. Now I can retire and not have to customize anymore Bandai/Matchbox SDF-1s. I did though enjoyed building them.

I'm kinda debating on ordering this version. From what I have seen and read so far, I'm not sure as to wait or go ahead and get one. The arms do look a little fragile. Also it's not as detailed as I wanted it to be. The size could be better to reflect the cost. But that's just my opinion.

    Teaser announcement :D I'm building a non-transformable SDF-1 DYRL. It is bigger than your 1/48s. :o
