how is it pointless? The only reason people are paying 80 for the damn thing is because its the only alpha series of toys coming out anytime soon. EVERYONE on this board WANTS to pay LESS for this thing. I dont see how paying a more reasonable price is flawed.
No. *I* want to pay more, dammit.
FLAWED!
Cool... preorder one from me and I'll sell it to you for an even $350.

See how he dwarfs all the other spidey-kin...
That's a beautiful collection you got there Blaine
How come you don't have a matrix sentinel?
Thanks... actually that's not all of the collection, I used to have about 4 more shelves... it's a new house and my office is the last room that needs to be painted (desperately), so I didn't set up my toys very nicely this time. It's a bit of a jumble.
Mainly I took down the majority of my 12" Star Wars (I left Boba and Chewie on the shelves, you can see) and most of my Famous Covers & Megos (except for Spidey).
As for the Matrix sentinel... I'm not a huge fan of the design. I love the sheer massive-ness of it... but I'm also not a big McFarlane fan. The plastic is too bendy and the articulation is nil. But I'll admit their paint and sculpt detail rock the house... just not enough for me to buy any of it.
Anyways... I would kill to see ToyBiz do more like this new Spidey... it's a damn impressive display piece. I fell like he commands more attention now than anything else on the shelf... even if he costs so much less.

Hey Graham.
in Toys
Yes.. they all look kinda familiar.. especially this one..That's the point. The original BT designs were from Macross, Dougram, etc. These Japanese re-designs basically keep the same general shape while trying to hid the source well enough to keep from being sued.
Too bad they couldn't have just done that in the first place... give credit where it's due and get some kickass designs out of the deal.

PS: The chick who played Topanga from Boy meets world has better looking full lips than Angelina.
dude no... noo.... she looks like some sort of dwarven woman...
(gross)
Grody chick that Jolie is 100x more sexy than..
Was the Last Samurai even nominated for anything? Heh, it definitely stirred up emotions. Or did that come out too late?
Hey now... people mistake my girlfriend for Topanga quite a bit.
As for dwarven... not quite, but she's only 5'-5".
But that is a bit of a crapass picture there. This one looks more like my g/f... and what I think of when I think of Topanga. Fishel
Besides, "my Topanga" knows full well the extent of my raving lust for Angelina.

Congrats Wes...
Does this mean that if you're on a 747 and everyone starts dying from eating the fish... that like Ted Striker, you'll be shoved into the pilot's seat and use your skills to land the bird?
Over macho grande?
No, I'll never be over macho grande. Those wounds run... pretty deep.

That's what happens when you oust Roy and don't give Pixar their due.
F him.
-
Well... you can always count on any mention of Uncle Carl to bring about friendliness on Macrossworld.
Either way... the man's done some good things and some bad things (usually with good intentions, possibly)...
I'm not jumping up and down to honor him for bringing us Lick Hunter and Company... but I don't see any reason why they shouldn't, if they want to.

i thought it was ok, but over hyped.
Over hyped? I never even heard about it until I saw it at the rental place.
I'm not saying it wasn't over-hyped, but I guess it's a sign for me to get out more.
Which totally proves my point that the term "over-hyped" is only in the eye of the beholder and completely irrelevant when it comes to critiquing something.
So let's all come up with a better reason to like/dislike something, shall we?
Thank You!

Me suspects these be fakes argghhh
From The Digital Bits website...
(LATE UPDATE - 3/2/04 - 1:30 PM PST)Afternoon, kids! We have a couple of things for you this afternoon.
First of all, we've spoken with those in the know (the right people, you'll have to trust us on this) and have learned that the Star Wars DVD box art that's been circulating around lately is "work in progress" ONLY stuff that should NEVER have leaked on the Net. These are apparently very early concepts - stuff that we weren't meant to see - and the final packaging is likely to be quite different. This kind of thing happens all the time - that a company working on marketing designs for packaging, or even poster or cover art, will do many, many different concepts as they hone in on the final design. So while these packages are sort of the real deal, they're really not if you get our meaning. Anyway, that's the unofficially official word - take it as you will. We will, of course, post the final box art as soon as it's released by Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox.

Yup... the only thing kicking Giant Spidey's ass on size is my Iron Giant fig... luckily I don't have any Shogun Warriors on the shelf, though.
Can you post some pics of this? I really wanna see who big this Iron Giant fig is... who made this toy anyway??
Yeah, I meant to take a pic last night when I stuck him up there... but the puppy came by and demanded all my attention.
As for which Iron Giant... here's one on eBay. It's an awesome toy, great articulation, voice chip, etc... totally recommend it. Made by Trendmasters.
I bought off the clearance rack for $15... I hate the way IG was marketed and had a bad box office, but at least I got a great deal. I've seen loose and incomplete versions of this toy sell for $150. I'd sell it, but I love it too much.
-
I thought the Matchbox toys were pretty good and matched the Gakkens well. I'd be OK if they just reissued those.
I'd rather have one to the correct scale, but thats just me.
Well, if Toynami makes them to scale they'll all be tiny and cost $80.
I like my Matchbox versions good enough. To be fair, I thought the Inbit designs were a bit boring... and crabby!

Great movie. I'll probably end up getting it one of these days.
its only $10 at bestbuy
Really... cool, I'll probably get it the next time I pass by. Great soundtrack too, but that I don't have to buy.
awesome soundtrack, at first i didnt like it but it grew on me fast, especially that music when hes doin crazy things
I almost mentioned the soundtrack before... easily the best use of Tears for Fears in a film since the Breakfast Club. And I'm not a Tears for Fears fan, really.
But the scene with "Heed over Heels" is one of my favorite music/movie moments.
-
I hate them all. They should use the original movie posters.
They should only use the original movie posters (which there were many different varities anyway) when and if they EVER release the original trilogy in it's theatrical form.
Of the designs above, I'm partial to the Vader head. Man, that light side vs. dark side is poo, though. That looks like something I'd see on a crappy lunchbox.

hehe after comparing spidey to my yamato 1/48 man the 1/48 was so small
Yup... the only thing kicking Giant Spidey's ass on size is my Iron Giant fig... luckily I don't have any Shogun Warriors on the shelf, though.
Still, Spidey's head and shoulders taller than Jack from Nightmare before Xmas, my 15" Robocop, and both car and lion Voltron.
It's so cool to have a toy that big with such a cool sculpt. Usually giant toys were so... boxy.

Jeeez... now I'm starting to figure out what every former RPG fan does with his time these days. Draw comic strips about playing RPGs.
Hell, I used to work for Kenzer & Co, who made Knights of the Dinner Table... good guys and decent employers... but what kind of hell have they unleashed?
-
Seen it. Loved it. Bought the DVD. Watched it many, many times.
Looking forward to see what else Richard Kelly does... he's an interesting writer and director and his upcoming projects look pretty cool.

I'm a fan of Orguss, so if Yamato or any other Japanese toy manufacturer made a decent transforming toy, I probably buy it.
Heck, I'd be happy if somebody just reissued the old Takatoku toys as I missed them the first time around and I'm not willing to pay ebay prices for the old toys
Graham
Same here... I'd actually be happier about a re-release than a new sculpt, actually. Orguss is an old mecha show and old mecha toys just seem... appropriate.
I suppose that wishing for Bandai to release something like that is even further fetched than hoping they release more Macross toys. I wasn't even aware such a thing was possible.
Does Bandai even own the Orguss molds?
As for the Orguss/VF-1 kitbash... I'm sure Toynami will pick up on it and call it YF-1Q or something stupid like that. They're always desperate for new ways to milk animation errors from SDF Macross.
-
I think rather than Yamato, I'd prefer Bandai made a non-transforming, prepainted snap fix, light up model kit of the DYRL SDF-1, similar in design to their Star Trek kits.
Heck if Bandai released two kits, one in Cruiser mode and one in Storm-Attacker mode, I'd definitely buy both.
However, being Bandai, we all know they would never make that sort of effort for Macross.....sigh.
Graham
Being a person completely incapable of putting a model together and making it look decent... I'd be happy if Bandai only rereleased the old 1/3000 SDF.
I lurve me some classic Macross toys.

A Britney sexbot would be a high seller too especially if it doesn't speak.
She could speak... "y'all I'm so drunk..." or "hold me, master Blaine!"
But no singing allowed.
Seriously though... I doubt the SDF would sell nearly enough units to justify its production. Unlike valks, which can be repainted and rereleased all day long... the SDF is a one shot.
I would dig the hell out of one, though... I just don't imagine Yamato will be surprising us with a space fortress any time soon.
-
Just opened mine for the first time and took a look...
There are some decals taped to the back of the inner tray in a plastic envelope. The "instructions" are also in the same envelope, it's a combination of decal placement guide and transformation instructions.
It should be behind the decals in the same plastic envelope. Other than that - nada.

Fun for the whole family!
Cool. Now let's get to work translating and making a drinking game out of it!
Anyone ever seen Donnie Darko?
in Anime or Science Fiction
Posted
Hmmm... I only have one interpretation of the ending... I wasn't aware of dispute.
Maybe it would help the conversation if you told us what the two differeing opinions were?
