  1. Man! I love those old Valkyries I'm so glad paints are more cutting edge thee days there was kind of a limited selection for people with a budget. I suggest Tamiya paints, car pants at you local automotive supplier, and Home depot they can match house paints so with a little work if you have the box art you can match paint perfectly. I've gone to auto suppliers and the paint can be thicker but it with a little paint thinner and a good airbrush can have a very durable and color accurate. If you want total accuracy then go to home depot and get them to match your paint up. Just be sure you know what kind of paint you apply though sometimes the older kits can respond adversely to paint so generous and evenly applied primer is a must.

Games Workshop Citadel paints. Self-levelling, adhere to anything. Yellow and Red should hook you up A-OK. Find a wargaming/model shop.

  2. I think it looks fun. I sold off my Valk collection, so this and some Regults to blow the crap out of will be a lot of fun.

These are toys, dudes. I don't want to play with a Valk and then be like "Wait, I gotta put away the Gerwalk antenna and find the swappable parts for where the legs go when I put it into Valkyrie mode".

I've owned a lot of Valks, and my fave is still the Chunky Monkey. I want Valks I can PLAY with.

  3. Hey all,

Just got a Mac Mini and loaded it with Plex for use with the plasma in the living room. Loaded on a bunch of stuff, and went to rip my old Macross TV series DVDs. Plan was to use individual chapters (episodes) as episodes in Plex. I rip them, and lo and behold, there's weird chapter selection, because the five files that make up four episodes are all spliced in weird places, not at beginning and end of each episode.

Long and short is, any advice on how to load Macross onto my Mac Mini (besides going through DVD menus from ripped DVD which I'm doing now?)

And for the record, yes, I do own the DVD's. Number 243 (?) on the initial sign up list way back in the day.

  4. I used to remember my number on the list...I think I was in the first 100 to sign up. Remember this: those of us who paid $250 each for the sets actually financed the thing happening. If it wasn't for us taking the bigger financial cost, it wouldn't have made it here.

I remember signing up at $350, then the price dropping as more and more people signed on. At least I think it was that much, it was 10 years ago.

  5. I'm Asian too (Filipino) and my beard grows back like untrimmed bush in like... less than 2 days after shaving :p Beard growth isn't tied to ethnicity ya know...

Curse your beard growing abilities! ;)

BTW, this uniform was mentioned earlier in the thread (muuuuch earlier). I'm offering it for sale:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=110299125954

It's gone one auction with no bids, so bid once and win it. Then geek out hardcore.

(Counts as cosplay, cause I'm the one wearing it LOL)

  6. I'm not dissing this cosplay people, the effort they put into this is outstanding, but seriously, can't the guys grow a beard!? or put some fake beard at least?? I mean, such a hard work for the hair, clothing, contact lenses whatever instead of just painting youserlf a silly beard

If they're as asian as I'm native american, then, no, no they can't grow the beard. LOL :)

  7. Sniff...memories! Like the corners of my mind...

Yeah, I sold my PM last year...still had the postcard bound in.

Man I feel so damn old. I remember being pumped when the Mikimoto book came in that my buddy bought...

  8. Well, out of a desire to ditch my packing of my house for my move, I threw in Otaku No Video again today. Boy, the memories came flooding back. Suddenly it seemed like 1995 again, looking for anything anime related, and paying too much for Gunpura at the comic shop. Back issues of Maison Ikkoku were like gold, and fansub VHS was coveted beyond rubies. I remember my serious friends going in for a SVHS deck, and getting import laserdiscs. Natsukashii!!

Anyway, an old anime fan just felt a twinge of loss and a warmed heart from the old days. So, take it as you will. Record your geeky love of this show or experience in your own anime clubs below.

    Ahh memories.

  9. 1. Hmmm...the subtitles say "Love SPIRIT in cosmic wave," but is that really right?

Yeah, I saw the subtitles but its so funny that they can't pronounce it quite right, and basically skip the r sound, so it sounds like Spits LOL

    2. Hell, yeah!

Wish I had mp3's of the songs...oh well.

    3. GoshScottWeBetterBeCarefulOrElseTheInvidWillFindUsHuhDon'tYouThinkSoTooDon'tYou? ...you mean you don't talk like this? I sure do!

    4. I found topless Mint more disturbing than naked Yellow. Mostly because, when he grabs Sorji during his bath, I always expect him to say, "Don't look down, but I think I love you."

    5. I don't remember RT well enough...what was different?

Carla's boyfriend actually kills the people who make it, or come back. Lots of extra scenes that fill out the show, more discussion about the Legioss and Tread (and that Tlead subtitle makes me cringe).

Actually, I'm realizing I've forgotten quite a lot from RT...I completely forgot about the entire epiosde with the old guys (or maybe I just never saw it initially?), and a few things are ringing distant bells that I can't quite recall.

So are you finished with it yet? I'm up to episode 18 now.

All done. It was really cool. Scratched that 'I need an 80s show fix'. Next I wanna snag a copy of Dorvack or VOTOMS. VOTOMS used to be a Right Stuf for dirt cheap, but don't know if they still do that.

Any good cheap shows I should watch? 80s and early 90s only please.

  10. OK, further impressions:

    • Love Spits in Cosmic Wave? Yuck!

    • Wow, the music is really growing on me.

    • People talk a LOT less than in RT and for the most part seem like more normal people, instead of fast talking freaks who say odd things because they match lip flaps.

    • Yikes! Naked Yellow, I did not need to see that.

    • So many scenes were cut from Robotech that would help this show make sense – didn;t realize Carla's boyfriend was quite SO evil!

    • Motorcycle Freak...that's you! Ahh Engrish.

    • The interviews are cool too – they can't actually beat the Inbit – they just get done and leave! LOL

  11. Loved Robotech the New Generation when I was a kid, and decided to see if Mospeada was better than New Gen (as in Macross is better than Robotech.)

Here are my impressions as of episode 4:

Theme song: Wow, a soulful Japanese guy? Who the hell is this dude?

Yellow Belmont: Yeah, I'd buy the whole chick thing a lot more in Mospeada. RObotech was just a little obvious. Even if it is Cam Clarke!

Rei: Wow, what a jerk. He must be the typical American stereotype.

Stick: Not changed much, but why do they call him Stig? Even the TOYS say Stick for cryin out loud!

The Legioss: Damn this thing is MUCH more important in the show than in RT. They're always concerned with where the thing is.

Fuke – A little more rough around the edges than I thought.

Inbit – I can just hear the animators saying "Running low on budget/time? Throw in some more Inbit POV scenes!"

One thing that strikes me is the HUGE difference that the music makes. New Generation has the pall of hopelessness all the time – due to the masterful work of Arlon Ober and Ulpio Minnuci. Mospeada here seems to be less of a constant "everything is depressing" because of the more light hearted music, though the theme song captures the spirit well.
