im still looking into the airbrushes at the minute, but everything is packed up now as i need the workbench, so once ive got to the stage i carnt work on the car until parts arrive ill dig it all out again and get some models built

i need to flat the paint off some bits where i forgot to mask the armour but this is no biggy really

i really enjoyed it, was a bit of a challenge, but i did enjoy it a lot
ive got a wave vf-0s that im going to build next, already done a dummy build so now just need to sort tehe gaps out, and paint it, but will do that when i get an airbrush, also have a vf-0s reactive armour to do, and 2 pg gundam kits

thought id post pics up of my first custom, as some of my topics ive been asking for a lot of help and some info regarding doing an evil jetfire
well, ive sort of finished it, but im having to stop as i need my work bench due to my car engine needs fixing and my airbrush has packed up
so next week ill buy a new airbrush and start again when i get the car sorted but for now im happy with the outcome, though there are some major mistakes
i used tamiya acrylic paints, and clear for the sealer
i did want it grey but couldnt find a gre i wanted so he went black with purple, so kinda like skywarp colours, fast packs are dark grey, but i need finish them as i missed some masking when doing the black and they need clear coating aswell
the purple is game workshops purple which dires flat instaed of gloss, overall for my first i dont think i did too bad lol, though i need to work on my sanding and filling and using the correct grade of paper as there is a few prep marks in there still
so i hope you like here some pics
how it started
and how it finshed

i had a look using the search, only thing i could find was someone doing a gundam, but didn explain how to do pre shading
from the link you have posted, theres a vid of hows its done, i need another airbrush as my air brush carnt do thin lines, its only 1 set pattern
so i need to find a quality airbrush now with different nozzles
everytime i come on here i always look through wm chengs model builds as i think they are fantastic
thankyou for the links, ill will keep studying
-
as title
im actually really enjoying getting started onto modelling now, i know it takes a lot of practice and time, but could some please give me some ideas on how to do washes, pre shading and dry brusing please
and what would i need
at the minute im using tamiya acrylics, and future to seal
but id like to have a go at doing more stuff on them as i like the clean look, but i love the worked and used look better lol
id be very gratefull, i have some oil paints aswell and i use white spirit to thin them down with, but i havnt mastered this yet, but still trying
-
thanks for the replys
i went to the local model shop and bought some very light grey paint, was just a bit lighter than sky rey, but the stuff was crap to use and i eneded up blocking my paint brush and spending an hour trying to clean it out, as this stuff went like rubber within 5 mins
so what i did, was sanded it all down again, and it all went flat black, and i sued a war hammer purple for the strips on his arms and wings, and main chest, on the chest i used tamiya dark grey and coated with future
left all this 24hrs and started to rebuild him, only problem im having is as its my first custom and very first time at anything like this there is a couple of masking mistakes, and some of the paint has chipped slightly due to the way i had to put him together, but i think i could loose theseif i gave him a white wash, but i havnt got a clue onhow to do a wash yet !!!
the fast packs etc, have gone dark grey and ill try and get these a bit better with some black here and there, i used alclad steel and jet exhaust on his feet and jet packs aswell
i will get some pics up tomorrow what i have taken as my batt went flat n the camera
so hopefully my evil jetfire will kinda work, but may have skywarp colours lol
will have to see, but for my first one, ive spent over 2 weeks on it and have enjoyed it and i will do more i think, but start on models
just done a dummy build of a vf-0s battroid from wave, so this may be next, o ri may finish off my pg wing zero that got knocked off display and broke, parts are repaired just needs painting fully now

im struggling to find these colours in the link
http://www.smokescreen-38.com/htm/tf/eviljetfire.htm
im trying to do an evil jetfire based on a bandai 1/55 but the grey ive used is tamiya sky grey and its no way near that, its more of a low viz colour id say
can anyone shed any light in where i can get a closest match please, im really strugling and this custom may end up being a low viz which isnt what i wanted to do as my first custom
id appriciate any help please with trying tof ind this whitey grey and the purple
-
done
your comments are welcome
that looks great
but why not do a bit of damage to the canopy or on the nose cone under it so it shows where roy got shot from?
but still fantastic the way you have done it
-
ok, ive started the evil jetfire, its all stripped down and primered and is now ready for paint, i will get some pics up later on
but im having major trouble in finding a very liht grey, closest ive got is sky gre from tamiya, so i dont know what to do now as thats still a dark grey almost primer colour
ive tried lightening it up with white and other colours but no joy
can anyone help me find a very light grey like the one in the link above
if nto ill have to stick with the darker shade of grey and possibly have todo the fast packs purple or gunmetal but i dont know how it will look like that

I would just like to point out that in the G1 Cartoon, Jetfire was a Decepticon for some time - and his color scheme remained unchanged.
So I never saw the point in the "evil Jetfire" repaints
VFTF1
he was only a ecepticon for about 15mins
as he seen starscream which was his collegue before the war they were exploring planets etc, jetfire( skyfire) has always protected life and doesnt want to destroy it
he only became a decepticon as he thought the or was told the autobots were evil, until he rescued spike and sparkplug off an iceberg and took them to see megatron, where he choose to keep them captive and told megatron that no harm would come to them, but the decpeticons didnt like that as he had no rite or something
then when starscream went to destroy some of teh atobots jetfire rebelled i think and starscream blew him away, only to e repaired by ratchet and then he became and autobot
yes the colour scheme had not changed on him, mainly because he was going to become and autobot, but i bet if he stayed a decepticon then the colour would of been different, like the pics above i think
also on the grey paint, i have a load of tamiya acrylics here, so ill take a look and do some tests to get the rite shade im looking for, i just dont have any purple yet!
-
ill take alook into colour schemes, but he is going to go a grey colour as he doesnt look correct with white and purple stickers
and it is about getting teh correct shade of purple aswell
i do have a macross jetfire here, not in the best of condition, but he is staying with my macross valks, my best one is the one i have boxed which is an inbetween a macross and a bandai valk
-
Also you can check out this linky...
ive actually emailed this chap and he got back to me today, he basically paid someone to do it and make the box a few years ago but he carnt find the blokes email address, which is a shame as id love the box
im tempted to go that colour scheme, but with the armour purple, im not sure, think ill have to experiment lol
i class an evil jetfire as a different colour and of course decepticon insignia on him, though i do have a grey macross sticker aswell which is just the rite size for the wing lol
as ssoon as i get the last bits of armour ill start the thread
-
just wondering if anyone has done an evil jetfire from the bandai 1/55 mould as im lookig for reference pics
ive just dismantled my spare jetfire, and im waiting on the custom stickers from repro labels but i need to get a couple of bits of armour first and a gun
but im unsure on what colour scheme to go for
i was looking at all the white bits will be a light greyish colour, armour would either be dark purple or a slightly different grey to the body
if anyone has any pics id be very gratefull so i have an idea, this will be my first custom ive done and im looking forward to doing it and ill post pics once i start
thanks

do you mean items (plastics) that have already yellowed or when they yellow after painting
if the 1st then theres no way of reversing the yellowing no matter how much polish you do as its a chemical reaction within the plastic
-
i would say thats the finishing touch adding that desk and roy sat there lol
looks excellent so jealous and i so want one lol
-
that is fantastic
excellent work on that, you should start making them into productions as id imagine they would sell very very well
-
ok thanks for the replies
but what about glue, epoxy resins etc
whats best to use, also what filler/putty to use aswell etc
-
mechtech
ive been looking for somewhere in nuneaton but had no luck, i will try these though
good idea on the sprues though thankyou, but practice makes perfect lol
mixing paint i mean about thinners, like when people say 2:1 etc, i know what it means i just need to know how they go about measuring it
chalks i wont use im afraid as i dont know how they would react to when i want to seal the model
what airbrushes do you use
in The Workshop!
Posted
just wondering what make of air brushes do you use as i need a new one
im looking at the iwata range something like this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRAND-NEW-IWATA-HP-C...1QQcmdZViewItem
i have about $200 to spend on a decent airbrush
as my last airbrush i managed to get 2 models done before it packed up lol
and want to get back into it again now i have the time again
