  1. The Feds' starfighters are the Peringine-class fighters. They can be seen on DS9 but are too small to look at due to lack of close-up or midshots in the footage. They are around 25 meters long.

The Peringines were meant to be civilian courier vessels, in which the Maquis would modify them as their starfighters. Surplus parts from the Peringines would later be used to construct Je'day-class raiders, which are roughly around 80 meters long (around the size of a Dominion Attack Ship). When the Dominion War broke out, the Feds take examples of the Maquis Raiders and refit all of the Peringines as combat starfighters.

The reason why the Feds didn't got around using fighters because of the peace-driven social and political trends of the 24th century, while a few other species had used fighters as combat support. Good thing the Dominion War nudged the Federation to act tough, but the Nemesis movie bumped down a notch in military might.

  2. Two brillant plans to save Star Trek!

    1.  Sex.  Nothing like T&A to boost the ratings.

Bah. Fanservice is only works if it's done in good taste. Seven's an Ice Queen who get her emotions suppressed with a reset button and T'Pol has a turn-off look (boyish hairstyle) with a b-tching superiority attitude that is so un-Vulcan of her.

If wanted fanservice, I go watch anime for fanservice instead.

    2. Canceal the show and bring it back as new series 5 years later.

In order for that to work, Berman and Braga must never work on the entertainment industry, not ever.

  3. Why not? Power Rangers always end the battle with the same attack.... why can't Star Trek?

Because all the Star Trek species use 18th-19th century combat tactics, with incompetance hampering any effectiveness. They believe that their starships and shuttles should handle the ground support, leaving only foot soldiers to use transporters (easilly jammed or crippled) or shuttles for insertion and extraction (easilly to be shot down).

Their starships are modeled after such said era of naval combat due to the fact they fight in 2-D and they rarely use shuttles or fighters to assault against starships.

Hell, look at the episode "The Killing Game", where holographic WWII Germans just stood there to be chopped by Klingongs. Real soldiers would regain their composure and fire at them with thousands of MP40 submachinegun slugs.

To win against ground troops, use M2HB or M60 machine guns to kill foolish troops running in with their screaming cries, use poison gas, use heavy artillery and a combination of armoured vehicles to eliminate mere foot soldiers. In the meanwhile, shuttles get shot down with anti-aircraft fire, powerful fighters against them and a combination of missiles.

To win against starships, overwhelm them with a combination of capital ships with a large quatity of fighters, overwhelm them with heavy firepower, can travel at star systems faster than their warp drive, use 3-D offensive tactics and use railguns or mass drivers to break through Borg shields.

    There. That's simple enough.

  4. But. You can't end every episode of Star Trek by firing the wave motion gun (or as seen in Best of Both Worlds.....the Main Deflector Dish).

Bah, to fight fair against Star Trek aliens would be to stoop down to their level of combat tactics. Warfare is never fair and the only outcome is victory or defeat no matter if it means fighting dirty.

To win against Borg adaptive shields is ridiculously easy: either overwhelm them with massive firepower to the point the shields burn out or use weapons that don't interact with the shields like railgun slugs.

  5. I think the best thing for everyone to do is go out & buy the HK box set's for Space Cruiser Yamato series 1-3.....no, seriously!

In fact, any sci-fi anime (even Macross) are far better than what Berman and Braga are offering. Whenever Enterprise shows up, I flip it off and put in any sci-fi anime DVD for me to watch.

Besides, most of the sci-fi anime are very competant and reliable in warfare because they use 20th-21st century combat tactics and build it up from that point. While all Star Trek aliens (including the Feds) are stuck at 18th-19th century tactics because they incompentantly put overconfindence to their technology.

If I wanted to watch 18th-19th century combat, I rather watch "Gettysburg", "Napoleon" or "The Patroit". :p

  6. ****SPOILER SPECULATION****

Freedom getting trashed was sad/refreshing cuz its different in AU series to se a Gundam getting trashed.

Don't forget that the track list for Gundam SEED's OST III also tells that Frey's gonna die and the Dominion will be destroyed with all hands.

Azreal will order the building of Justice and Freedom Gundam (these will most likely be stolen in Seed 2 considering Orb and Klien faction's lack of mobile suit production).

N-Jammer Cancellers aren't the only thing useful for Azreal to use. Some Gundam fans also speculate that Azreal would also mass-distrubute the NJCs onto nuclear warheads and to take down ZAFT. ZAFT would also retaliate with theirs with NJCs, resulting in Mutaully Assured Destruction that will wipe out humanity and leaving Kruuze as the winner for his revenge.

Members from the ZAFT military will defect to the Orb/ Klien faction, my evidence, a Ginn in a white and orange color scheme, one not seen before. My only question is why those colors? Is it cuz of Bartofelt liking orange or is it because of the Astray Gundams?

Bartfield's squadron colors are orange and striped black, as shown with his LaGOWE. He's nicknamed as the Desert Tiger (sp?), hence the orange motif.

The Klien faction's military forces have to show they no longer work for ZAFT, so they likely took Bartfield's squadron colors in their MSes in honer of siding with him and also to Lux Klien.

  7. Admiral Janeway (with a cameo from Captain Picard and/or Captain Sisko)

God, why punish us with more Janeway?

From what I heard, Stewart doesn't want to don as the French captain again because he felt typecasted as being ST. I doubt he'll do it again.

Avery Brooks had stated time and time again that he hates Berman and Braga to the bone and would refuse outright unless someone else other than them is in charge.

    Captain Riker

The problem with him is that he's the Diet Coke version of Kirk.

    Colonel (Commander) Nerys

I have nothing wrong with her on DS9 but would love to see Mirror Universe Kira again (with the sinister black catsuit).

    Lt. Cmdr. LaForge

What I can't tolerate from him is that he uses technobabble to solve everything. I want Scotty or O'Brien instead.

    Counselor Troi

What I can't understand of her is her telepathic mood swings. And she better not probe my mind without permission.

    Chief Engineer Torres

What is with her mad mood swings? Her solution to repairs are either banging it or beat up a fellow engineer. That is unless, her original brain was stolen and replaced with a S&M mistress.

    Doctor Bashir

IMO, he's an OK doctor next up with McCoy with a knack of being bright (his genes aren't his fault in that). Crusher is a turn-off and the EMH better not sing. If Pulaski is still around, she would use lowtech ways to administer medical aid like a splint.

    Science Officer 7 of 9

What's with her as ex-Borg Ice Queen? Everytime she develops being more human and emotional, she would have it erased with an electric probe tool and her lost childhood doesn't help matters.

Furthermore, she couldn't get a good, well-developed romantic relationship. Some flicker, some given bad timing and some didn't turn out right.

Yet, she has managed to pull out scientific solutions on the fly.

Also, was she a good replacement to Kes on Voyager?

  8. I felt the biggest shame was when Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner made a concerted move to grab control of the franchise from Berman and Bragga, but failed.

I'm curious to see what two incredibly smart and talented actors could've done for Star Trek.

I also heard that William Shatner wanted to control ST as well, because after Generations had sent his acting career into a slump and also felt that his departure as Kirk was a mistake.

Before his work The Final Frontier ended up as a movie bomb alongside Insurrection, he wanted it to be dark, gritty and an action movie. The problem was that the Powers that Be yanked most of the control and put the original script into the blender. Yet, Bill put a lot of influence into the design department, such as the shuttles, some of the crew wearing leather bomber jackets and the phasers being modeled to look like .45 automatics complete with a loading magazine into the handle.

  9. Yes, the yellow Autobot is Hot Shot, who is the young, brash rookie in Transformers Armada. The Japanese name of him is Hot Rod, which is fitting for an Autobot who shares a similar personality (Hasbro can't use the Hot Rod name because they lost the copyright).

It should be noted that Hot Shot's powered-up version is coming soon, replacing the Tweety bird colors for Hot Rod's color scheme (and complete with flame patterns).

  10. Wasn't the Enterprise B a shoddy, old Constellation class? I mean, old, beaten up ships have mucho character and just.. rule... :)

The Enterprise-B is an Excelsior-class vessel. The only changes to the Excelsior's exterior are paint apps and a few add-ons and that varient reappeared for DS9's two-parter "Homefront" and "Paradise Lost".

The Constellation-class is the four-engine ship roughly the same size as the Enterprise-nil and Enterprise-A. Captain Picard once commanded the Constellation-class USS Stargazer until he was forced to leave the wreck after destroying a Ferenghi cruiser. What pissed me off was that Picard left the wreck mostly intact (and got off the resulting court-martial), which will later be stolen by the Ferenghi Bok to be repaired and reprogrammed as his instrument of revenge against Picard.

    Brave Express Might-Gaine

    Sunrise/Nagoya TV, 1993-1994 (42 episodes)

    English distribution pending

Not rated (contains violence and mild language)

With oil supplies now dwilndled, people use alternate energy sources and use public transit. However, crime syndicates also run rampant in the city of Nouvelle Tokyo. With the city's Government Dog Force Police helpless in taking out rampaging robots, billionaire youngster Maito Sempuji takes the fight himself with Brave robot Gaine. Should things become tough, Gaine, Might Winger (piloted by Maito) combines with Locomeizer to form the mighty robot -- Might-Gaine.

    Story: (three-star/four-star)

While GaoGaiGar took the whole cake in regards to the Brave Robot series, it's hard to look up into older Brave series such as Might-Gaine. From those who had saw all of the Brave series, they say that it takes time to get into any of them, including GaoGaiGar. Once one goes through after watching the premiere and a certain number of episodes, it picks up in seriousness as a super robot anime -- heroic defenders, your basic supervillains and mecha anime action.

While Mamoru from GaoGaiGar is an in-nod to Superman, Maito is an in-nod to Batman -- parents murdered mysteriously, classy mansion with hidden superhero gear, bulter and secretary under his command and joins in the action in his Might Winger train/jetfigher vehicle with human and robot sidekicks. Yet, Maito had revealed his identity to his love interest, Sally. Completing the picture is Nouvelle Tokyo police inspector Ozawa Syouichirou, who is your typical bumbling police officer.

Maito's the man when in combat, but works in tandem with Gaine when both work together as Might-Gaine. In this case, Maito operates the controls by hand unlike Guy controls the whole body of GaoGaiGar. As for Might-Gaine in action, he hones in battle as a swordsman with his sword, in which is an in-nod to Star Saber, the leader of the Autobots in Transformers: Victory.

Unless the fansubbers pick up the slack, it'll be hard for me to watch Might-Gaine after I took a liking to GaoGaiGar.

    Animation: (three-star/four-star)

Yet again, GaoGaiGar took the whole cake in the animation department. Still, the mechanical designs show the Brave Robot motif that all Brave series have in regards to style. The use of cel-quality art is well done in its era, which is hard to evaluate when compared to today's animation quality.

Character-wise, the art style shares similarities with the other Brave series. While Sally doesn't hold a candle to GaoGaiGar's Mikoto and Swan, Sally looks cute.

    Soundtrack: (two-star/four-star)

Music department's isn't grandouse like GaoGaiGar, but Might-Gaine's musics holds a tune to its own. The opening theme's great and the BGMs use a rock motif, especially when the Braves combine and BGM rock tunes blare out.

    Cast:

Finding info on other Brave shows are difficult, so I can't make an analysis on this one nor I know who are the cast.

    My say:

GaoGaiGar may be crowned as King of Braves, but it owes its existance to other Brave predessesors who also pave the way. It's hard to look onto the older Brave shows due to GaoGaiGar but it's worth a look on how the Brave Robots got popular.

  12. Any story dating beyond 2012 works for me, because I would like to see any of the Macross' bridge crew as supporting characters. ;) That way, we can show to those foolish Robotechies that the crew were not killed in the final battle. Those people pisses me off whenever they disbelieve of the crew's fate and I would love to see a Macross show to piss them off that the crew are alive. :p Those Robotechies got themselves confused onto why the Macross still stands in Macross Plus and I would love to see themselves scratch their heads when they see that the crew are alive.

Personally, I would like to see the 2051+ era, which we may see something new in the exploratory angle or about the aftermath of the anti-UN coup that occured in VF-X2.

  13. Was Britai's ship part of the Megaroad 1 fleet? We already saw Exedol again, and I wouldn't mind seeing him again either. But if he was with the Megaroad fleet then he's out too.

Britai was not on the fleet. The only thing mentioning about him was that his flagship was formally reassigned to the Megaroad-1 fleet as an escort vessel.

Britai would later be commander-in-chief of the UN Spacy afterwards.

  14. Oops, this is a SPOILER ALERT!!!

Oh, I managed to watch episode 25 fansubbed and Macross 7 fans should have a look.

The recent addition to the characters is robot Mic Sounders 13, a SD-style robot that transforms into a rock singer robot. The fun part was using his singing to seriously affect the Zonder-robot-of-the-week while reviving the Braves at the same time. It's a great ep to watch. :D

Just make sure the lights are well-lit and don't look close to the monitor because the singing parts will have lots of flashy backgrounds and lights.

  15. GaoGaigar is awesome if you like Brave series shows.

If you watch it and find it to be just a tad too silly for you, like I do, check out Brave Train Might Gaine. Its definitely one of the most awesome shows I've seen recently, although its hard to track down. Awesome characters, /beautiful/ animation style, and cool music, and its more adult than most other brave shows, and the entire feel of the show is very great. Definitely a must see for all mecha fans. But yes, do go see GaoGaigar, and I definitely recommend Might Gaine if you like that. Might Gaine is my favorite Brave show.

    -BEN-MAN-

I managed to watch the fansubs of Might Gaine and I'll post a review on it soon. B)

  16. Anyways, let's speculate on what the setting is for the new Macross TV series.

    * Pre-2009: Macross Zero have pretty much covered that part.

    * Space War One sidestory: We could see Valkyrie pilots at the moonbase or one of the ARMDs. Or how about a set of characters aboard the Macross.

    * Post-Space War One (2010-2020): How about the adventures of the fledging UN Spacy troops in Valks or Destroids routing out the remaining rogue Zentraedi/anti-UN who still causes trouble.

    * 2020-2030: We already seen the adventures of the Jeniuses from M3, but what about other adventurers around other colony worlds.

    * 2040-2050: Well covered in Macross Plus, Macross 7 and the VF-X games.

    * 2051 and beyond: Let's hope for something new at this point, like the aftermath of the anti-UN coup attempt.

We'll probably see humaniod aliens in the next show, since the Protoculture Republic had left influence in the evoulution of lifeforms around the galaxy or finding probable descendants. Maybe they'll surprise us with other alien lifeforms.

How about watching the adventures of familiar characters (except on those who's dead or already seen already)?

Captain Bruno Global: He might be retired by the time of M+/M7, but we can probably see him in a prequel.

Claudia LaSalle: Where the heck is she after the end of the TV series?

The Bridge Bunnies: Two of them already left to marry with their Zentraedi boyfriends and one of them is still working for the UN Spacy.

Hikaru, Misa and Minmay: Forget about thinking about them since the romance is finished and the Froating Head says so. If you must want something about them, read the Robotech: the Sentinels comics.

There's still some stuff to cover and we hope to see more of the Macross universe.

    Kawamori-sensei, surprise us. :)

  17. I don't want to dig out my Comico Macross #1 but I think it was nice in that the pictures looked like cels (were they?) but they were a bit blurry and (possibly because based on cels) not really designed well for a comic book format. Some of the later Comico issues had quite interesting art. I'm thinking especially of #5 (?), which has a very original and artistic take on Minmei and her aunt at the Chinese restaurant. I remember also liking the graphic style of the first issue or so of Masters (though it wasn't anything special compared to that Macross issue #5 or whatever). Still later, the artwork went down the drain entirely.

Tell me about it. If anyone looked at their letters column, more than half of letters are devoted to artwork complaints.

The rest of the letters in the letters column are basically favorite RT stuff and requests for a comic adaptation of the RT movie or Sentinels.

I also remembered that Comico also tried their hands on making comic adaptations to Star Blazers around the same time.

  18. Lynn Kyle/Kaifun is called Teddy Typhoon and Rick/Hikaru is Little Ricky; I gotta see this. Was the show called Robotech, Macross, or a brand new name? Did this version air the same time as Robotech did in the states? Or is this version available on VHS? I have a French version of a Saint Seya OVA and it has a commercial for DYRL. This time it's called Robotech: Macross.

The Filipino English version of SDF Macross is just called "Macross". Yet, their English version of the title logo was laid out the same way as the original. "Super Dimension Fortress" replaced the boxed kanji on the top, "Macross" replaces the center and "Fighter -- Gerwalk -- Battroid" replaces the Macross name on the bottom. So they retain the name and anything from the footage remains mostly intact.

And no, it's not Robotech. If it were, we would have seen Southern Cross footage on episode 29, but it wasn't there. So the Filipino English dub is a straight adaptation of Macross.

The earliest time this English dub aired on Phillipine television was on the summer of 1985, around the time Robotech was airing in North America. No one at Harmony Gold ever put a stop to this because the Filipino English dub was done with approval from Big West. Sadly, this English dub never got released on video and no one knows if the TV station RPM-9 did has the rights.

Robotech did got aired in the Philippines around 1989-1990 (?), at a time I already left for Canada. I heard from some friends of mine complaining about the Robotech version because it didn't stay true to the Macross story (duh) and it sucks compared to the Filipino English dub (which retained the story and is much better to watch).

  19. YES, OF COURSE!!!

I've been discussing this with freinds for a long time now..."live action"....

Of course it could be done, we just need to finish up the legal trouble with H.G. & B.W. Then maybe we can move forward!!!

B.T.W. my vote for Director....James Cameron....(but we need to get his head out of the water first, literally)...

Can we entrust James Cameron for the job? He's planning for a Mazinger Z live-action movie and who knows what he'll do to it.

  20. @Captain of the SDF-1 Macross,

Do you remember the Easter Island heads on Thunder Sub/Blue Noah? or am I full of hot air?

Honestly, I don't remember that part. :( The last time I watched a whole episode was that station N9 called Thunder Sub for a mission before they can enter N9 safely. They have to destroy two command bases located on the North and South Poles, which commands all Gothamite occupation forces and a space defense network that can shoot down spacecraft. So, both Thunder Sub and Tempest Jr. leave each other to destroy the polar bases before they meet up again on station N9.

I do remember the episodes when Thunder Sub flying into space but I can only remember the last five minutes of them because I often wake up late at the time. :( Wish that my family got a VCR at the time. :(

Anyways, I found a web site hosting the cels from that show:

    http://members.xoom.virgilio.it/nihon_cel/...h/bluenoah.html

Save the pics before they're gone.

  21. Sorry to say that this topic has been done and gone. The majority of us here at MW hate the idea of a Macross (or Robotech for that matter) sucks. Many live-action adaptations of animation (anime or otherwise) have bombed such as Gundam live-action version G-Saviour, not to mention that writers/producers/directors aren't fans to the remakes they were assigned for and ended up bad when they take inspiration from a two-page diner napkin.

Even Shouji Kawamori himself aborted the live-action movie Earth - Final Outpost as well and he's moving away from it as much as possible.

Thanks for your 15 minutes of fame. Mods will lock this thread and no one shall speak about it again. :p
