  1. I read that Boeing is offering the F-15X to the USAF as replacements for their aging C models. The X is like the QA but single seat. I'm guessing CFT's would be carried as standard.

Are the QA/X's engines enough to counter the added drag and weight of the CFT's? I do remember hearing the Beagle wasn't anywhere near as good in DACM compared to the C model(on F-16.net, a Viper Driver didn't think much of the Beagle). However I also remember reading that the Slam Eagle, SG, SA and QA models would have higher thrust from newer models of the F100 engine.

You have no idea how happy it makes me to see that Bandai actually made this thing reasonably possible to disassemble.  Guess there's a first time for everything.

Also yeah, those pilots look a great deal better, Xigfrid.  The really obnoxiously bad part about the Bandai pilot isn't really the size itself, it's just the horrible mismatch between the pilot's microscopic hands and the monumental wad of plastic they molded in for the stick.. I'm tempted to cut it out and replace it, because it's just incredibly fugly.  I'm wishing they'd gone with the DYRL cockpit in general, and wondering how hard it would be to replace the instrument panel and seats with a Hasegawa set.  Could even paint it, for good measure, since Bandai couldn't be arsed to bother with that. <_<

Easy to disassemble until you get to the intake. Beneath the lower ball joint housing is where the thigh/drawer joint is secured. On 1 leg on my copy, that connection wobbles a bit. Not at the drawer hinge itself but the actual thigh piece. Not sure if mine is missing a screw or a peg within that housing(unscrewed the cover on top of the other intake and didn't notice any missing screws). So if anything is missing, I won't know until either the fanblade section to the front or the lower ball joint housing is removed. They aren't easy to remove, not sure if they are soldered or glued into place.

Not a deal breaker but not consistent with the other thigh which is rock solid in that housing. Could be a case of missing glue, who knows. Might be a very easy bandaid solution that I'll be testing out soon.

Lol, Toynami? That's like Arcadia insisting Bandai do something... Maybe HG? I think KC just likes light up gimmicks like the SD toy.

Could be but Toynami was eager to implement light up visors on the MPC VF-1 to make them "look alive". Maybe it's someone at HG that likes that or George Sohn from Toynami asking HG for it. The 1/72 scale made me think Sohn had some influence on the KitzConcept VF-1 since that's the same scale as the HCM, which is his favorite toy.

Ultimately I would much rather have a retractable gun handle instead of a light up gun barrel.

  4. So I forgot but to get AC5 you have to just preorder this right? It's not part of any other special edition?

I'm cautiously excited. I like the upgrade system from the PSP/Infinity games but wish the actual CG model per plane would reflect those upgrades. I'm worried about a short campaign or a boring prolonged campaign(AC6). I really liked the PSP games and preferred them over Assault Horizon.

I've enjoyed this series since AC2, main missteps being the US version of AC3 with substantial substance cut out and Assault Horizon. I enjoyed AH but felt it would've worked better in the arcades or as a F2P game. Seemed like Namco was trying to bank on immediate thrillseeking to emulate an experience from COD.

Not surprisingly, I did see a game by Bandai at Dave and Busters that's seems to use the same engine as AH and you get to use the CFA44 Nosferatu.

  5. I'm surprised hasn't released more repaints/rereleases of the VF-1 in the meantime. I'd be down for the following:

    VF1D low vis

    Super Ostrich

    VF1S Max

If the latter 2 are released I think I can call my 1/60 Yamcadia VF-1 collection done.

  6. So to date, has anyone been able to completely take apart the DX VF1J intake to release the thigh? I haven't seen it done. I don't know if the thigh piece is secured into the intake whether through a screw or being soldered to it.

  7. Would've preferred if the gun pod handle didn't need to be removed to attach the gun in Fighter mode. Oh well, if I get this. Maybe I'll just leave the cartoon hands on and the handle inside the right hand, or leave the stock hands out in Fighter mode with the gun handle stored in the forearm.

I'm surprised they went for the light up gun gimmick. Bet Toynami insisted on that, they love light up gimmicks for some reason.

Lookee lookee. We’re a league now — Me, David, Shin, and Lolicon. We are The Red Arrows! 8)

I’ll update the name list the moment I see more red arrows. Keep them coming. ^_^

Uh what? Wow this place has changed in the years since I used to frequently post here. All those downvotes just more attention to our posts. I didn't know someone was habitually using them. Anyone able to fill me in via PM?

I'll take pics of the intake opened up. The good thing is, no rubber washers to enclose the joint! The balljoint housing uses diecast metal and a hard grey plastic. Eventually that plastic may wear down so that silicone joint tightening fix you came up with for the DX VF-25 might come into play here in the future.

I'll probably quit after Focker's 1S as far as VF-1s go. They're nice but too big and out of place among my 1/60s. TBH I only bought Hikaru and Roy from the Yamato 1/48 line, so I guess that's my limit for that scale.

I'd rather Bandai knock my socks off with a 1/48 VF-25. I recall they teased one years ago. I still want it!

That 1/48 VF-25 was a model, love to see a DX 1/48 VF-25 too though

You seem to think that they've ever worried about paint rubbing.  Have you seen the Delta valks?

LOL yea of all the VF's Bandai is making the VF-1 is the one that's the least prone to paint rubbing. Paint rub has been standard for Bandai since Frontier with the VF-1s affected the least out of all.

  11. Cross posting here with regards to the DX VF-1J:

Got mine in, largely satisfied. However, has anyone taken apart the intake? On 1 leg, the section of the leg that plugs into the intake(the part with the drawer joint; the hinge itself is not loose), is looser than the other. For example it has a bit of wiggle room whereas the other is solid/tight.

I've unscrewed the top plate above the intake(3 screws) and that only gives you access to the ball joint and it's housing. There is another layer of parts and beneath that is where the drawer joint is secured. I'm not sure if there's a screw missing, misaligned peg or what. I don't know how to take this bottom layer apart. It's the lower half of the housing for the hip ball joint.

I do recall reading about this before but I forgot where and I don't think it's widespread. It's not a huge bother but I'm curious as to what caused this and how to fix this. The drawer joint itself, the actual hinge is not loose, just the section where it plugs into the intake.

You know, thinking about it, it really IS mindblowing that Yamato, Arcadia or Bandai have never done a proper modern day transforming 1/3000ish scale TV Macross. I mean...it IS what the show is CALLED!  I get that Yamato did the DYRL version (which I think we can all agree was totally badass), because it was more popular in Japan, but I just have to wonder why all the bean counters at all three companies didn't or don't  see how making a TV version wouldn't sell???

Arcadia has been waiting for license approval since last December. At least they were still trying at that point, not sure if they still are.

No, it's the regular PS2 version emulated on the PS4's built-in emulator. It also doesn't come with the Deluxe edition specifically, it's a preorder bonus in general that unlocks once the game launches.

Damn, thanks for the heads up

It's not the most popular, or we would have lots more merchandise by this point.  What it does seem to be is a really obscure gem that people forget about for years, and then discover again.

I can see the angle of it being a very popular valk with regular aircraft enthusiasts though.  It's a beautiful design in its own right, and it's also one of those that you look at and think there's no way it could possibly transform.  That alone tends to turn heads, especially in this day and age where most transforming aircraft toys look like a jet slapped on top of plastic brick. :p

Agreed, most popular is the VF-1 with the YF-19 more than likely being 2nd.

For what it's worth, you're not missing much with the super parts.  The 27 itself is slightly improved, but they fell back to the old-fashioned DX version 1 quarter-assed implementation of the packs.  No solid mounting position for the legs (I think you literally have to drop the thighs half of a ratcheted increment to sit them correctly), no locking mechanism to keep things in place.  You just attach things, and then bludgeon the valk back into fighter mode, hoping everything sticks together.

Yea I just kept the fold booster on, I took off all the FAST packs. I got annoyed with the armor after it fell off constantly when transforming and posing.
