So, I was loosening the hip articulations and noticed that there is one missing piece.

It seems to be just some kind of plastic filler. It kinda keeps the 2 halves of the socket together much like the other plastic piece below.

Any ideas of it's function? It doesn't seems to affect the leg without it, was tight as hell.

It's an interference spacer. Works like a lever in that system, so the tightness of the joint is more adjustable.  Metal doesn't have much give, so the difference between too tight and too loose is very slight. That POM part has more flex, to give you more control.

I think this is it for them... non transformable HMR?

I can't see any possible transformation with these proportions, unless they're just display fillers because they haven't started working on the actual intended models?

I think that's the route with those two.  I feel reasonably certain, looking at these figures, that they don't transform, but that a Hi-Metal R valkyrie would definitely transform.  This must be all they have to show, for now, the 3D equivalent of shadowy silhouettes.  I'm curious though, if they can make the  VF-11 transform when it's built like a Pixar mom.

    Cheers from eastern WA! 😄

On point observation regarding the 21's design. Of all his valks, this is the only one I can think of that's essentially a shellformer. And yet, even with that additional cheat, the design still suffers from an inordinate amount of animation magic to achieve its proportions between modes.

This is the line art for the leg transformation. as you can see, the legs are indeed supposed to turn laterally for storage in fighter, but as you can also see, the lower legs are visibly shrunken to fit them within the confines of the aft fuselage. I never understood why Kawamori-san even bothered with the belly plates, why he didn't just tuck the legs in battroid config up into the engine nacelles, or why he didn't have the lower legs, turned sideways, feature some sort of panel fu to lessen their width and to cover more space on the bottom of the plane. Any of those options would have been better than those abominable belly plates. I hate those things with a passion. Note that he doesn't give a very clear idea of how the arm armatures work either; it's more suggestion than a clear mechanical design. This thing was fudged from the word go, all to have it be reminiscent of the Queadluun Rau, which I can appreciate given Guld's Zentraedi lineage, but the design approach was uncharacteristically hamfisted. It's little wonder that proportions tend to be an issue for toymakers. FWIW, I doubt Yamato's will ever be surpassed in its fighter mode- it's simply gorgeous. but then, that was obviously the primary focus of the design, and they executed it very well. I wish they'd compromised the thinness of the fighter just enough to allow for larger legs, but they didn't. I'd still welcome a retool of that design with larger legs and hopefully more robust hip joints. That, IMHO, would be a nigh-perfect YF-21 toy. I'm a battroid guy, so Bandai is winning me over with their version, even it, too, has its warts.

Personally, for me, discussing proportion about Valkyries is like discussing scale about Transformers.  Yes, there's an "official" reference, but it's not that great (the Sunbow chart makes up a lot of the scale relationships, and the isometric Macross linearts are often made after the fact).  Personally, if the figure looks good by itself, not in regards to a screenshot or lineart, then I feel it's a good display piece.  If it is made of sturdy construction, then it's a good toy as well.  We're already throwing out many of the reference lineart concepts (like the flippy feet instead of slidey feet) to make this a better toy, why nitpick about a slightly different nose shape or fin shape?

BTW, I love your Lego designs, not just your Macross inspired ones, but all of them, especially the transforming designs.  I love that you integrate classic themes into them, too, like the Konig Monster being in classic space colors

    Crazy Theory Time:

The legs armor is designed this way not for the SSP but really for the upcoming TV Super Parts. They will make those covers easily removable, as well as the ones on the boosters. Then they will sell future max and Millia 1Js with just the covers, not the super parts in their entirety. Guess we will see in December when the first TV Supers come out.

That's....plausible.  The Max and Millia sets would need to come with just the leg panels, and the booster half of the boosters.  I guess we'll need to see if the leg panel of the TV Ver is glued or not

So, they blocked me, but didn't delete the post?  Then why block me?  That boggled my mind.  Maybe Alex tried it and broke his armor, then rageblocked me?  That would be sad.

Another pic. Most of the super glue was concentrated on the nubs that secure the cover in place. Fortunately it’s not on the rest of panel underneath. After scraping that glue off with an xacto knife it became much easier to install and remove. Now I’m curious about the missile section...

RIGHT?!  I'm looking into that as well

Are you Zak? They banned you and then left the post up? Why get banned at all. I'm stumped.

I lurk there but I don't post on public pages.

I am Zak.  Once the guy commented, I tried replying, but said the post was no longer available.  When I tried to go to the page's frontpage to see if my post got deleted, it said I couldn't access the page.  When I searched for it, I didn't get any hits, so I concluded that I got banned from the group for finding an interesting secret.

After taking the picture I snapped it back together and immediately regretted it. It's very hard to pull apart again despite breaking the glue off. Perhaps that's why they decided to just glue it together? Who knows.

If you plug in the other piece of armor, it gives you a place to grip.  The outer panel overlaps all the way around the section, so there's nothing on the edges to grasp except the panel you're trying to remove.  Also, the glue may have been light on my sample.  I see they put eight dots of superglue, but only a few of them seem to have stuck

  8. I am selling my Bandai Chogokin Military Aquarion. This isn't the bright colors version, this is the limited Military version, with more somber colors. I saw pics of this guy on the now-defunct Invincible Robot Laboratory, and I simply had to get one. For fans of Kawamori's work, this really is the pinnacle of his genius. This sucker is tall, hefty, and complicated. I'll be honest, when I got this box, I opened it up, took the Vectors out, put them together ONCE, and put it away, because this guy kinda intimidated me. This is, without a doubt, the most complex transforming toy I've ever held in my hands, truly a masterpiece. I really wish that I could keep it, but I recently moved into a smaller apartment, and I simply don't have the space to take it out and display it.

On eBay, this is priced at over $400, but I really need to let it go. $300, or make me an offer. I am not currently looking for a trade, as I won't have space for anything new either.

I don't have pics on me, but if anyone asks, I will gladly take pics of the box and the Vectors tucked away in their plastic and styrofoam alcoves.
