  1. Well, I guess this is where I chime in:

Couple things: First, the YF-19 is DEFINTELY flightworthy. Parasitic drag, yes, but the great thing on a model is you can often get absurd thrust/weight ratios. Granted, it won't be an efficient model, but it will fly.

Second: However, the first comment only applies to the aircraft in fighter mode!

While never one to wantonly discourage crazy plans, a flying, transforming YF-19 is pretty close to cold fusion, on a scale of impossibility. Aside from any consideration of how to automate the transformation process, there is no practical control system on the -19, which would be effective in any sort of hover mode. (GERWALK, or otherwise.)

Furthermore, as has been pointed out, the weight of the actuators required to transform such an aircraft would be quite high, especially since the geometries of many of the joints give little in the way of mechanical advantage. The stresses an aircraft (model or otherwise) experiences in flight can be fairly extreme, and even things as [seemingly] simple as variable-geometry wings (F-14/VF-0/VF-1) can be extremely difficult to get to function on a flying model.

I don't mean to sound like a spoilsport here, but when it comes down to it, the realities of physics pretty much dictate that transforming aircraft have to remain in the realms of animation, at least for the (extremely long) foreseeable future.

Thanks for the comment IAD. Obiously because you have done your sv-51, your oppinion wheigts more than other member´s. I´ll keep you informed of the proyect progress. thanks again.

  2. Well, yes, that and the fact that he stated he had the entire leg mechanism working after only a week, and offered zero proof, neither photos or even a rough description of how he'd accomplished this.

Extarodinary claims requuire extraordinary evidence. IMHO this thread stinks of "little kid looking for attention"

Look KingNor, I am not a "little kid" that just look for attention. The reason because I haven´t post any picture is simple, I don´t have digital camera or scanner either. I just want to try if it is possible to do. And I guess that the only way to prove it is doing it. If it has to fail, will fail, if it doesn´t better. I don´t want to be rude, but I´ll do it even if you say that it can´t be done. We´ll see.

  3. The A-12 isn't a prototype SR-71, either. It's simply the A-12, and more than a few were built and put into service. There was actually a fly-off between the A-12 and SR-71 to decide which version to focus on.

Anyways, I've seen the term "hypercritical" used to describe a wing like 3 times in as many days. As far as I can tell, it's not really an aerodynamics term, and if anything, seems to mean either "an extreme version of a supercritical airfoil" (which makes no sense--something either is or isn't supercritical--it can be semi-supercritical, but once you are fully supercritical--you can't be even MORE supercritical)

Or---people are meaning "literally extremely critical--as in important or sensitive"---having no relation to the term supercritical, and usually referring to alpha.

Either way, it'd be invisible on a toy. ::checks YF-19 just to be sure:: Hmmn, if anything the Yamato YF-19 is flat out wrong--the trailing edge is thicker than the leading edge, and more rounded-it's just plain backwards. But ironically, is semi-supercritical.

the reason because the yf-19´s airfoil has that shape is that supersonic airfoils doesn´t work the same way subsonic airfoil does. supersonic use shock waves to produce lift.

  4. Chronologically speaking, isn't the VF-0 a prototype for the VF-1? I can't see how the VF-0 is a more 'updated, modern' design of the VF-1 :p

    VF-1S all the way.

    IPB Image

You are right. Is kind of confusing this cronological thing because vf-0, apparently, is more advanced that vf-1 when the first one is the prototype.

  5. Mechs=good

    boob=very good

    mechs with boobs=not so good.

but to answer the question, I would say the best fighter is the VF-4 the best gerwalk is the SV-51 and the best batroid is the VF-1(J)

the SV-51 is my personal favorite overall, it's the most aggressive and intimidating of the variable mechs.

    I agree totally

  6. I have studied aerodinamics and I`m aware of all those things. I saw a RC SV-51 that can fly and I realy think that my proyect can be made to. If you would show the blue prints of any modern aircraft to Bristol or any of those designers, they would think the same as you. In other hand, there are in the market a lot of turbine engines for model airplanes that can give 15 kg of thrust, and I`m planning to use two of these. Besides, with all the robotics and material tecnology that we have now a days I think I`s very posible. dreams cost nothing, :p

  7. K, I apologize it's taken me this long to get this out, I've just had to push everything aside lately for classwork. The plane isn't quite done in my opinion, there's still more I'd like to do, but I don't have the time to learn how to do it right. I've got the basic plane done, with an extremely basic 3d cockpit, a stock instrument panel for the 2d view, and seven paintschemes, with no fancy effects or anything. It might even run in FSX, but it's meant for FS2004. Hopefully people will add in what's missing, since I don't have time to.

Of course, now that FSX is out, I'm already rebuilding it from the ground up with about 4x as many polygons, and tons more detail. Dunno when it'll be done, but the model exterior is just about done, and is extremely smooth. :) It's kind of a learning project to teach myself the details of FSX modeling.

I'll see about compiling all the files for my CFS3 YF-19 as well later. Blatant overkill in a WWII environment, but it's amusing to blow away every enemy in Europe in one strike mission. ^_^

Now, is there somewhere I can stick a 10 mb rar file so people here can download it?

you can do it in www.rapidshare.de

you have tu create an acount. is free and fast.

    I´ll wait for that link
