  1. Sweet, I got the DVD from his sight and had a blast watching it. I can't stress how bizarre and intriguing this film is, I'd recomend it to everyone if you can get your hands on it.

Blue Velvet and Molhaland (sp?) Drive got me hooked, so lately I've been looking for Lynch's earlier stuff. So I'd like to know what MW'ers think of Lost Highway or Wild at Heart before I rent or buy them. I'm also interested in some of his short films. If anyone knows about these films, that'd be great.

  2. Hey, is there any David Lynch fans on MW. I could really use some of your guys help. If anyone knows where to get a copy of Eraserhead, that would be great. I hear this movie was a student film of his and is more out there than Blue Velvet. Again, any info on where to obtain a copy of this would be great. I've tried Bittorrent sites around but no one on is seeding. Thanks in Advance.

  3. I'm really anticipating DOD source. It doens't have quite as big fan base, but the WW2 theme is cool. I saw a few photos off of the steam forums, they weren't too impresive, but hopefully they were shot VERY early in its production. I still gotta get my f'n computer runnin, though.

  4. I got a 9800pro just for doom3 and it (the video card) screwed my whole system over. I take it in and they say I have a blown capacitor on my motherboard and I can't run heavy applications. Does this sound plausible? And for this problem, i have to buy a whole new motherboard (?). Anyway I'm really pissed because now I don't get to play HL2 till my computer is fixed, furthermore no games at allĀ

I smell BS!! I'm A+ cert. and I have been working on computers for some time and I never heard of a video card blowing a capacitor on a MotherBoard. Does your computer even turn on? What happened when your computer started acting funky? Don't get ripped off man! What kind of motherboard do you have? Were you overclocking your video card or CPU at all??

Ya, my computer boots fine and I can run almost all applications well. The Funky stuff is after I installed the 9800, I would play doom 3 just fine for fifteen minutes, then my cpu and moniter would turn off, or sometimes i would get wierd checkered color patterns on my monitor. Its definitely not a heat problem so I took it in, they looked it over. Now, I can't play any game, period. The cpu will handle the visualizer on media players, but for only so long before the cpu and moniter die as well. The russian computer guys say, "Comrade, there's physical evidence (its apparent they only looked at the motherboard itself) that there is a blown capacitor here... MOTHERLAND!" Thats not exactly what they said, but they are a russians.

    Oh, and I don't overclock.

  5. Just like being told you have some disease, get a second opinion. Take the box to a local mom and pop shop or another chain that offers PC repair and get their take on it. If they tell you the exact same thing then you have your answer... if they tell you something different is wrong take it to a third place as a tiebreaker. If the third place says something completely different than that just means either none of them really know what your problem is, they are all guessing at the problem or they are all pulling your leg to get more money out of you.

Initially, thats what I'm gonna do, but those diagnostic charges rape you. Thanks for info btw.

  7. There's some theory out there, damned if I can remember it, that says that x ammount of energy is required for a population of a certain size to achieve a certain level of technology.

I believe you are thinking of the "Civilization Types" chart of sorts. Basically it says there are 4 types of intelligent civilizations based upon each civilization types ability to control certain levels of energy.

    Here's some more specific info:

    Type 1, 2, & 3 Civilizations

A Type I civilization would be able to manipulate truly planetary energies. They might, for example, control or modify their weather. They would have the power to manipulate planetary phenomena, such as hurricanes, which can release the energy of hundreds of hydrogen bombs. Perhaps volcanoes or even earthquakes may be altered by such a civilization.

A Type II civilization may resemble the Federation of Planets seen on the TV program Star Trek (which is capable of igniting stars and has colonized a tiny fraction of the near-by stars in the galaxy). A Type II civilization might be able to manipulate the power of solar flares.

A Type III civilization may resemble the Borg, or perhaps the Empire found in the Star Wars saga. They have colonized the galaxy itself, extracting energy from hundreds of billions of stars.

By contrast, we are a Type 0 civilization, which extracts its energy from dead plants (oil and coal). Growing at the average rate of about 3% per year, however, one may calculate that our own civilization may attain Type I status in about 100-200 years, Type II status in a few thousand years, and Type III status in about 100,000 to a million years. These time scales are insignificant when compared with the universe itself.

On this scale, one may now rank the different propulsion systems available to different types of civilizations:

    Type 0

    Chemical rockets

    Ionic engines

    Fission power

    EM propulsion (rail guns)

    Type I

    Ram-jet fusion engines

    Photonic drive

    Type II

    Antimatter drive

    Von Neumann nano probes

    Type III

    Planck energy propulsion

Judging by this scale, we are still a Type 0/Type 1 Civilization.... I would say in order to manufacture and utilize Antimatter type power sources with any level of efficiency, we are looking about 100 years into the future, maybe more, and very unlikely less time than that, but remotely possible.

Where's this information from, is it valid? And what the hell is black energy propulsion, sounds naughty.
