  1. Hi guys.

I'm extremely frustrated with my Aztec airbrush, especially when it comes to spraying acrylic paint. I get a lot of clogging and drying problems.

Can y'all recommend a good double-action for spraying acrylic hobby paint, for around $100 +/-?

Or would a single-action be better? I build mostly 1/72 Mecha and 1/48 jets. I switched to acrylic paint mostly for convenience of cleaning, and have had no luck with the Aztec and Gunze Aqueous.

    Thanks! :)

  2. :)

    And I have a question:)

As you know, tail section of this plane is actually left arm's shield and equipped with pin point barrier system. This gave me idea to mask few roundel in this area and airbrush some blast effects. But after removing masks these marks will be meaningless for lot of people and I don't want to explain this system countless time. Shall I take this risk?

    Your model is gorgeous!

As to the blast effects - would *you* enjoy seeing them? *You* are the most important person to consider in a case like this.

Plus, you could always label the base if you get tired of explaining! :)

Question:Would you sell copies of your decal sheet? I could really use those NUNS markings!

  3. That's it! You have reached a level of model mastery where we require build-up threads for your future projects! I've got to see some of the magic you use to bring those kits up to such a fantastic level. I'll bet a lot of us could learn a thing or two from watching your process. B))

    Those are really amazing Reuben!

I second this request for build-up threads!

Reuben, these models are absolutely beautiful!

  4. Okay Everyone, I've given the kit a bath & scrub in good warm soapy water, and I'm ready to start!

No pix yet, maybe later today, but I'm building the Hasegawa 1/48 YF-19 as an operational VF-19A+ from SVF-143 "The Pukin' Dawgs". I'm using Jasmine Models Photo etch set for the YF-19, purchased from our very own newca, :) plus Fightertown Decals for the Pukin' Dawgs markings and probably some anime girl nose art I got from Starship Modeler.

I believe there are no external differences between a YF-19 and a VF-19A, if anyone has evidence to the contrary, please let me know!

I'm also planning this as a diorama, showing a somewhat weary NUNS -19 undergoing pre-takeoff checks sometime in 2060.

This is mainly an excuse to put a simple base under the VF to protect it, and a few figures for detail and interest. :)

The VF-19A+ paint-scheme will be similar to a modern day FA-18E, overall light or medium gray, maybe a little less worn than a jet.

    Pix soon!

  5. I'm glad to see they're milking this mold, but I don't think the YF-19 has the greatest lines for using schemes like this one... the nose design just doesn't lend itself well to a darkened panel along the top. Plus, I don't quite care for how flashy this scheme is. I can see the cues from existing squadrons, but it's just a bit too much (mainly the wings are over the top to me).

Now that they've begun the milking though, I want to see more like this, with more subtle sets. I still want my low-vis set, and the supernova schemes in this scale. :)

Plus... while I don't think the YF-19 has the best form for adapting old style navy squadron styles, it's got the perfect layout for some Russian style schemes (clipped tails and everything). Heck, the thing is half Su-27 already. I want them to make some agressor sets, especially a Dobber-style one. :D

I'm actually thinking of doing a "Powder Puff" after thinking about this post you made, Chronocidal. I also have some great Su-27 references.

  6. I am... that's the main purpose of the new server we're migrating to. This Robotech business is far and away the smallest and lowest priority part of what we have planned. The main focus of the site will be what we're semi-seriously calling the Macross Galaxy Guide... a two-part reference providing general coverage of both Macross continuities. My focus on characters and settings should provide a nice complement to Mr March's exhaustive coverage of the mechanical designs, which will also be hosted on our servers just as it is now.

If only it were that easy... so long as Harmony Gold thinks there's money to be made from milking the nostalgia Robotech fans have for their mangled version of Macross, Robotech will never simply vanish.

Seto, I think there is some additional value to having the Robotech section in that you guys might help to clear up some confusion about the series and how it relates to Macross. There are a lot of casual anime fans who are unaware of the difference, and maybe they will look at the shows in a new light.

  7. Is anyone building the Hasagawa YF-19 1:48 scale model? Curious to see some finished or in progress pics.

I'm about to start a (slow) build of mine, and I'm planning a thread on it.

  8. Matte for both, maybe a little rub polish on Milia but I just don't get the impression that her VF's are super shiny "airshow" type birds. I think that particular F-15 David posted is a perfect guide for the look I want..

I'm going for a low-viz but clean look on the -19. I'm toying with the idea of changing it's national logo from "UN Spacy" to "NUNS". ^_^ What do y'all think? Maybe she's an VF-19A+ serving on an old carrier or visiting a colony around 2058-2060.

  9. I thought the same (I actually have the Rogers split off from Skull, as SVF-103 and SVF-1 respectively). I ended up doing a lot of USN squadron markings on the VF-4, including the Wolfpack, Swordsmen, Black Lions, Tomcatters, Stallions, etc.

I saw those on Macross Mecha!

Those profiles helped me to decide to do this specific -19 as a Dog. The decals I bought also have some small insignia that should fit a 1/72 VF-1.

    Thanks for those great profiles!
