As for the nacelles, they're not bread sticks, they're French baguettes!
That's funny! I almost edited my post after adding it to say baguettes instead of bread sticks, but I'm trying to cut back on my self-editing on message boards.

The Intrepid Class is not ugly per se, but it does look like an inverted teaspoon with chicken wings attached.
That is true, but you can use words to make anything sound ugly.
For example:
The Excelsior looks like an undersized frisbee clamped onto a pelican's torso with bread sticks for nacelles.

I'm sorry, but the latest BSG is what Voyager SHOULD have been.
It was the ST series with the best potential from the get-go, and they royally screwed the pooch with the minimal amount of character development, the recycled stories/plotlines, and the lack of balls to really push the envelope with their unique characteristics.
I mean seriously, where was the Maquis/Starfleet tensions and conflicts? Other than a few episodes in the first season, they became utterly nonexistent.
And did the ship ever take any sort of damage or need any sort of long-term overhauls as it was all by its lonesome out in the Delta Quadrant? Other than a few episodes, the ship always looked in top shape. Contrast that with BSG, where the Old Bucket never looked the same after struggling to get to that Algae Planet.
I agree with everything I quoted above. Those are really great points. I don't really feel the same way about the criticism of the characters, and I still liked Voyager a lot just for it's premise alone. DS9 was the least interesting to me. I found it extremely boring until they started introducing the Defiant. I guess I'm weird.
and, to me, the VOYAGER is the quintessential All-Time-Low. it's a hideous, hideous Starship, to my eye.
Ack! How can you say that? The Voyager was a beauty. So sleek, and forward swept wings for the win!

the "Gullet" does not bother me an iota.
what DOES bother me, however, is the new VF-19 series' "Bulbous" and "Droopy" nosecone profile;
I feel the exact opposite.
The problem with the YF-19 is the forward fuselage is angled upwards at a 10-15 degree angle. It looks so wrong. The VF-19 has the angle of the fuselage correct so the pilot is actually facing forwards.
Be patient young padawan.

I have to say, the PAK-FA is one sexy-looking plane in my book!
Not as sexy as the anchor woman in that SU-35 video David posted.

Are the black holes on the P's legs missile dispensers? I guess this means it won't have the opening leg hatches that the Kai has?

More like VF-25S to me...
Looks more like Ninja Gaiden to me than the 25 or 27.
-
I like it. And if this is an accurate sculpt of the head, I want one too.

I obviously need to watch Frontier again.
-
One of those wood he nice too, but I refer to a VF-25A. It's seen a handful of times in Frontier, mostly (if not always) inside the Quarter hanger bays having maintenance work done.
Oh really? Dang, I can't say I ever noticed cannon fodder VF-25s. I always thought SMS was just the Quarter, a Monster, and four VF-25s. Sort of a small special unit like Diamond Force, (except privately contracted of course.)
-
Hoping against hope for a cannon fodder version.
Also known as a VF-171?

I've a question about the renewal -25's battroid mode. In the pic, his crotch is flipped up and outward, like he's doing some sort of groin thrust. Is it supposed to be this way, or just a case of mistransformation? Don't remember it looking like that in the anime.
Supposed to be that way.
http://www.macross2.net/m3/macrossf/vf-25f.htm
They gotta make those head lasers splay outwards, though. It's like the last missing detail they need to really capture the silhouette of the battroid.
-
Holy crap it looks exactly like the CG.
Let's hope the legs/engines sit where they are supposed to in fighter mode.

Saying someone is against 3D is akin to against electricity just makes you look dumb.
Smell-o-vision, may be OK, but 3D in the same boat as electricity??? Can you live without 3D movies? Definitely. Live without electricity? Possible, but extremely difficult if you're used to living with it.
There was a time when people got by on kerosine lamps. They raised animals on their own property and slaughtered them to put food on their own table. They got by without electricity just fine and probably thought the world could have gone on another thousand years without electrical companies and their high prices.
3D is just one of many technologies that are still in their infancy that are going to become part of every day life. It's going to be integrated everywhere and it's going to be good. It's going to be so good that going back to a 2D format will feel as limiting as walking around in the world with one eye closed. Can you live without one of your eyes?...definitely. But it's extremely difficult if you're used to living with two.
-
3D is not a fad. It kind of sucks right now, but it's just a stepping stone towards bigger things like holograms, and retinal projectors, and eventually direct brain interface fully immersive virtual reality where you don't even need one eye, let alone two, to enjoy three dimensions...not to mention taste, touch, and smell. We're all going to be uploading ourselves on the internet some day where computers that are a billion times more powerful than the human brain will produce virtual reality that is indistinguishable from real life. 3D movies, TVs, games, and cell phones are just the tip of the iceberg.
You might as well be against electricity, and the internet, and any kind of human progress if you are against 3D technologies. Just join a hutterite colony and get it over with!

I think it's funny I keep reading in threads comments about the valk being shiny.
If you watch the show you would see that even the vf-17 is actually shiny along with all of the VFf-19's.
I really can't criticize Yamato or Shōji Kawamori for the shiny finish on the VF-19.
There's also a scene in Mac Plus where Isamu sees his reflection in the hull of Alpha One as clearly as if he's looking at himself in a mirror. I don't think that means the YF-19 should have a chrome finish.
I'm not saying you're wrong either, just that you can't use art from some specific scene in a show as absolute evidence for how something should look in toy form.
-
I don't know... It looks ungainly in Guardian mode. No...?
He used a Robotech reference. Let's get him!
-
Maybe this is a stupid question (it probably is) but does the GERWALK mode of the vf-17 have arms? I have not seen macross 7, and all the pics I look at make it seem like the standard GERWALK configuration of the vf-17 lacks arms.....
Yeah, weirdest gerwalk ever. The strangest part is the legs. I'm not sure why they don't bend forward more. There's no real reason why they shouldn't be able to.
Maybe those elbow cannons have SERIOUS recoil and the legs have to be positioned way behind the center of gravity so it doesn't fall on it's butt when it fires.
-
this photo set just shows how posaballistic the battroid mode on this thing is. awesome.
That is so bad-ass.
-
Me too, though I'll take blue over red any day. With that being said I've still been finding it hard to resist this toy. I really hope patience does pay off for either that VF-19P, which looked awesome btw, or a discounted Kai at some point. I like this design better than the F/S design....I prefer the long wings and canards of the Kai/E/P to the Blazers.
Chris
True, but at the end of the day it's still Basara, and a gun that fires speaker pods instead of bullets. I'd prefer a military VF-19, which is why I'd opt for the stubby-winged Blazer if I had to choose. It would be ideal if Yamato made some of the Master File variants, but that probably won't happen.
-
Heh Basara has to hold his breath when transforming in space.
I was thinking the same thing!
-
Wow, even I'm impressed!
The only thing missing that would make this thing perfect is some little rubber accordion style slip covers over the ankles.
Love that cockpit transformation!
This makes me want a V2 YF-19 so bad.
-
Beautiful.
This scheme was made for the 22.
-
Sure, just like everyone who collects the macross plus valks would want an x-9 to complete their collection.
Of course not EVERY mac plus collector would buy one but im sure the the attachment rates for ghost boosters wasnt 1:1 for vf-0 owners either.
The point is that its something that people would buy that dosnt seem complicated to manufacture for a company like yamato - so why not do it?
I'm sure it wasn't 1:1 either, but neither were the super parts or GPB for the VF-1. And think about how fewer their sales would be if they were some kind of stand alone objects instead of accessories to enhance the VF-1. What I was trying to say was I don't think very many people would be interested in Mac Zero ghosts if they didn't attach to VF-0s like fast packs.
Granted, the X-9 is a hell of a lot more popular than the ghosts from Zero. I'm not disagreeing that it would be cool to have in 1/60. I think it would be awesome. I'm just saying...you asked "why not" make the X-9 since it's nicer looking than the Zero Ghost, and I'm providing the most obvious answer.
Thoughts on Macross II
in Movies and TV Series
Posted
Walter White.
Breaking Bad is my favorite show currently on TV, hands down. And Isamu Dyson is still my favorite thing Cranston has ever done. So yeah, the Mac Plus dub gets my stamp of approval.
In regards to Mac II, it's the only series/movie I haven't seen yet. Well, except for the 2nd part of the Frontier movie, but that's on my to watch list as soon as it's leaked.
