I can't agree with that.  The model is beautifully lit, and proportionally very accurate to the original studio miniature.  I love how, all these years later, it puts the whole V'Ger flyby sequence into perspective.

Perhaps you were just disappointed by the creative decision to reveal the ship in its entirety, but concept art illustrates that was the original intent:

It simply wasn't possible to complete the original 60-foot miniature in the limited time they had to finish the film.

That I must agree with. 😔

What's worse, you can clearly see stars pass through his face during the shot. 🤨

That's doubtful.  I'm sure the WoK release will be the same 35th anniversary "Director's Cut" Fathom released in 2017.

This was probably the only scene I had an issue with....it literally looked like they cut the figures out on the physical film, and glued them onto the NEW 4K high res background of the starfield in back.

  2. I was listening to the interview when he was on the Howard Stern Show, and YES it is a complete bullshit move on Disney's part. They have the friggin movie playing in just about EVERY movie theater in the WORLD, they could've let ONE theater play another film. besides, the Arclight has SEVERAL theaters, Disney just wanted Star Wars to be played on the 70mm one.

here's the audio, listen for yourself

  3. There is some really nice FX work in there. The 3D battlepod needing some motion blur is the only thing that stood out to me.

Thanks for sharing, very nice work.

YES!!! thank you, I'm glad someone else spotted that. I love that a lot of this stuff gets made, but A LOT of 3D animators forget something as simple as motion blur. The strobbing you get from lack of it makes the film look very odd. Other than that this thing looks pretty good!!!!

  4. I also would like to add for a better part of the 80's and into the 90's, most of the American animation was soley driven by toys and toy sales. The show was produced to promote the toy, and not vice versa. Designing, casting, and asembling toys WAS an incredibly expensive procedure back then (but thanks to modern computer designing and laser measuring, toys can be mass produced at a relatively low cost). So the less effort and complex the design, the cheaper it was to make the toys. That's why you get the "boxy" looking spacecraft. Also throw into the mix that most of the toy designers back then weren't (for the lack of the word talented) heavily influnced by anime and fluid designs.
