A little late to the post, but I'm only building this now and have encountered the exact same issue. For me though, and I'm not sure if I'm doing it right or not, the cheek panels don't even belong on the armatures in plane mode? They are supposed to fit in there with friction and prayers? In any case, because the nose cone and cockpit section are loose for me (and I really don't think it's because I'm a big noob or did not apply maximum force or have minor nub marks), the panels just fall out and I'm currently securing them with clear scotch tape... Step 01-5 was incredibly confusing for me and I dissassembled and reassembled my progress before figuring it out too.
