I’m loving the AFC 1/100 line and will continue to get every release that I like and doubles of each F-14.  August 16 is soon for the next one.  I really hope that a SR-71 gets released.  Come on Hachette.

    GI Joe.

As a newcomer to the line, I am becoming a huge fan, as well. My focus is a bit narrower, though (F-4, F-14, F-15, F-16, F/A-18....and if I ever come across F-22 or F-35).

The Thunderchild is an Akira Class vessel.  But it doesn't have any fancy cannons.  Just a butt-load of Torpedo launchers and six phaser emitters.

Always my favorite starship model. I remember building a couple of resin kits of this class back in the 2000-2005 range. My first and last experimentation with airbrushing. I've come to accept that - since childhood - I plainly suck at painting models.

Nice diplay @Grimgerde , I personally had to use two types of material to make "ends" meet, and still have smooth operation. Maybe your process is better? Do you have any difficulty opening and closing the doors? Does it seal well? Have you done the sound test? It should significantly lower the sound to the exterior if it is well done. In any case, great collection, and great work!

I would not describe my method as optimal. I have a great seal all around, but the compromise came on the door edges, where - in order to get a seal - I needed to align the adhesive strips so close to the door that it interferes with a clean opening of the door. It doesn't prevent it, but it scrapes the strips. On one of my four cabinets things were particularly stubborn since the door-side glass warps out a bit. Also on that one I had to add another magnet to the top of the cabinet since the stock magnet was no longer strong enough to "latch" the door due to the strips.

All my detolfs have a slightly different door snugness/ease of use. That was before the dust proofing, so I am not suprised each cabinet was slightly different with the door-edge stripping.

On a positive note, the LED strips seem to adhere to that stripping far better than the glass of the detolf for some reason.

  4. Thanks! For the dust proofing, I used the adhesive strips (found at home depot for ~$3) that are meant for sealing the area between Window Air Conditioners and the window frame. Takes about 10 minutes to install once you have the door of the detolf off.

It seems to be made of balsa wood and foam.  It looks good to me and I still like it.  For the price and how simple it is to make, I wouldn’t recommend it to everybody as some people might be disappointed.  I’m going to hold off on buying more for now.

Congrats!  That’s a good one to start with.  I’m collecting doubles of the F-14’s to keep a set MISB.  Already have a spare F-14A Jolly Rogers, just received a spare F-14A Vandy 1 and F-14D Bounty Hunters, and a spare F-14A Tomcatters is coming in.

Rock and Roll! I have an F-4 and F-15 on the way. I'll be happy rounding out my set with the F-16, F/A-18, and the F-22 if I come across one.

  6. After spending the last 2 months  tracking down multiple copies of most every valk I have my eye on (and missed out on the retail release of, during my 14 yr Macross hiatus), I am looking forward to being around for the actual retail release of one. Setting aside last year's 1J dx release, I think the last valk I purchased when it first hit retail was Max's 1/48 DYRL 1A from Yammie.

Oh, c'mon now, I'd wager 90% of the members on these forums had Depeche Mode tapes playing constantly while growing up.

And still do (well, no longer tapes or cds...but nevertheless)

  8. Just let me know when I can pour myself a tall glass of merlot,  start playing some Depeche Mode, and climb into a hot bathtub with a razor.

Until that point, I will hold out hope!

  9. I'd be down for two of these, if the production version looks close to that. Thus the remaining purchase plans for new releases/preorders for the remainder of the year:

    1)Ivanov

    2)1-2 x VF-0D

3)Whatever the next DX 1/48 VF-1 is (as I assume the next one will be put up for preorder by the end of the year).
