The annoying thing about that is the fact that the obligation to have a Jenius in every Macross series combined with the apparent limit of one Token Girl Teammate means that if you want the gals in the cast to actually DO something besides sing from the sidelines your only option is the Jenius du jour.  I appreciate that the damsel in distress is a classic storytelling technique, and Japan loves its barrier maiden trope, but I'd personally like to see this setting, in which the Zentradi have all-female elite forces, cough up a few more female pilots.  The (New) UN Forces doesn't bar women from frontline combat service, so where are they?

The Macross II: Lovers Again OVA and its prequels didn't seem to have a problem with it, and the light novels, manga, and video games that've been made for Kawamori's chronology have cheerfully included loads of 'em, but the animation seems reluctant to include them.

    Robotech.com is back.

But that's all I will say

Put another way, make t he camera leer at the boys as much as it leers at the girls. If you can't understand that, then that's on you. /shrug

Well their culture they worship a certain body part in Japan. Something to do with fertility, not a put down on them, they've been that way for centuries. Just normal for them. Check it out on you tube

I can't get past episode 5 of delta. It just doesn't appeal to me but not all of the macross series do. I was not a fan of M7 or Zero either.

M+ is life and Frontier was not perfect but very enjoyable overall.

I hope they make something closer to Frontier and M+ this time around.

Yeah I liked Macross plus and frontier

Delta was great. It was fun to watch the whole way through. I couldn't say that about Frontier, of which I only liked the last two episodes and the movies (seriously, why did they need to lean into creepy fan service for that many episodes). Ideally I'd like to see the casts of Delta, Frontier, and 7 all interact at some point but that's probably unlikely.

    Yeah, that would be nicw

Do remember the show was extended to double the original length during production.  It was always intended to be concluded with a film.  If you forget the second half except for the last three episodes it all makes sense.  The show would cliff-hanger with Messer being killed.  And the Movie would have covered the course of the last three/four episodes.

Really, with a pair of films like Frontier the story could be pretty easily salvaged.

    Yep it can.

The problem is that while she's physically an adult, mentally her development is skewed such that singing is about all she knows... she has no social awareness beyond professional interactions with Walkure, to such an extent that she doesn't even know how to eat with other people in the final few episodes.

That makes it bloody creepy that the show keeps trying to make her The Sexy One like Sheryl was in Frontier, when she doesn't seem to be mentally equipped to understand being provocative.

It's mentally squicky in the same way that Stig Bernard's dead goldfish replacement girlfriend was in MOSPEADA.

On a character level, it was doing OK until about halfway... but the actual plot was still a mess.  There's no feeling that anything Xaos and Walkure did had any real impact on the outcome of the war until the last episode or two.  They'd show up, get their clocks cleaned by the Aerial Knights, and either draw or get defeated, and even the draws played into Windermere's hands.

The characterization took a dive the minute they tried to make Messer sympathetic posthumously.  The guy was a certifiable jackass, and for Xaos to treat finding Messer's secret Diary-of-how-much-my-coworkers-suck like proof that he really cared fell so flat I don't even have a smart-arse simile for how flat it fell.No

Well. It's always good when we get more Macross, of course.

I imagine this is going to be Delta related.

I can't imagine them taking any chances and going in a different direction with the new series. Oh well.

    Speculate..speculate ..

Those of us that have been at this for decades often fantasize about all the overturned stones left along the way .

Oh, the thinks you can think !

But the series deals with the current fan base usually. Which perpetually hovers in the tween/teen market..

That's why I love Plus and Zero.

And so, every series and OVA can be picked apart all day,  but it just comes down to opinions .

    Let the party begin!

Yep, even frontier wasn't that bad
