  1. Dunno, I think the Japanese would certainly have a better perspective considering they have a lot more history and larger base of shows to draw from. Remember, often when we see lists like this from the Japanese, there are shows on there like Doraemon that aren't even released in the US. When I saw Love Hina in the top 10 I automatically knew this list was pure crap. And coming from that magazine, I'm not surprised. And I like Wolf's Rain, but c'mon, it shouldn't be in a top 100 all time list. With the low rankings of shows like Escaflowne and the complete absense of anime classics like Gundam 0079, Galaxy Express 999, Lupin III, all Miyazaki films, blah, I could go on forever, this list is a complete fraud.
  2. On the contrary, I've felt that the anime I've watched has had many good endings, and one of the things I really like about the japanese mentality(at least in terms of animation) is that things are set out for a set period of time, and they end. Far too often in American media they go on without a set period in sight, and either get cancelled too early, resulting in no ending, or go on so long that the story is tainted and any ending is a pale remainder of how good the show was in its golden years. The X-Files is a perfect example of a show that went on far longer than it was supposed to and resulted in a very poor ending that did little more than rehash clips from the classic years of the show. (although I must say that there is one that stands out to me that breaks the mold - Seinfeld, which ended when Jerry Seinfeld could have easily sold out and gone on for a few more years, and had a great ending which brought a main theme of the series to fruition in an ironic manner) I can't speak about live action japanese shows as I haven't seen them, but that is one thing I really like about the majority of anime, that they have an actual ending that usually comes at a good point and wraps things up appropriately. It doesn't always result in a very well written ending, but is better than what seems to be the norm in America, no ending to speak of most of the time. As for my favorite endings... Cowboy Bebop End of Evangelion Space Runaway Ideon Galaxy Express 999(the movie, haven't finished tv series) Gunbuster Serial Experiments Lain Char's Counterattack Mobile Suit Gundam Fooly Cooly And ones I don't like... Evangelion TV Candidate for Goddess Outlaw Star
  3. I'm becoming quite frustrated with you misquoting people to fit your argument. Unlike you, who rewrote the quote to fit your speculation, I will post exactly what was said. Where does that say there are no plans for an individual release set? Nowhere!! Stop making things up!
  4. http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded....=&Number=655677 No plans to release individual disks in the forseeable future. I repeat myself. Bandai has never said officially that there would not be an individual disc release. To expect details and prices for individual discs months before the boxset is even released is overanxious. That quote you linked to does nothing to confirm the rabid fan speculation of there never being an individual disc release.
  5. I've never seen anything official that would point in that being the upcoming scenario for Zeta Gundam. Its certainly been fan SPECULATION but no one from Bandai has ever said there wouldn't be an individual release. Bandai said there would be an individual disc release a long way back (year +) and nothing since, but just because they haven't said anything doesn't mean we won't get it. Remember, they're in the middle of Seed right now and the box set won't even be out for another month and a half.
  6. I hope you're not talking about me! (Made the first Ideon website posted). If there's any confusion, ask away and I'll try to clear things up.
  7. *SPOILERS* The same? Um, no. Certainly all three shows are well known for cementing Tomino's 'Kill Em All' Reputation (although Ideon and Dunbine are much worse in that respect than Zeta Gundam, where a number of the heroes survive. In Dunbine the cast is completely slaughtered and in Ideon every living creature in the universe dies). But the plots are completely different. Ideon's much more of a super robot anime than the others and features aliens as the villains, something not at all in the other two. Dunbine's got the medieval setting and insect like mecha that sets it apart from the other two. There's certainly a few similarities (like the Earth Government being evil) that all 3 have, but to say you shouldn't bother with Ideon because you've seen Z Gundam or Dunbine is like saying you should skip Evangelion if you've seen Escaflowne. Although I do agree that as the earliest of the 3(1980), Ideon is the least refined of the three in terms of animation and plot structure. I'd say Ideon has the best idea but lacks the proper execution through most of the series (although its handled perfectly in the movies IMHO).
