  1. WOW!!!

I had some time to handle my 1/48 VF-1J and I could not believe how solid it felt in fighter mode. Also, the shape and proportions of the fighter is just beautiful!

I have not had much time to transform it though. I'm working on a 1/48 VF-1S Roy for a friend, but I am looking forward to detailing this baby up!

I knew that once I worked on his 1/48 I would not want to let it go so I went and got one myself.

The sad thing about the 1/48 is the price :( but you do get what you pay for.

I think that this will be one of the last times in a long time I will have two 1/48s under my roof :p

  2. Hey guys,

With all this talk of Yamato possibly not making anymore Yamato 1/48s and the 1/48 GPB Amor coming out next year I decided to buy a 1/48 VF-1J Hikaru and some VF-1A/S/J Valkyrie Custom Stickers Set by Takatoys to dress it up :D

Does anyone have any pics of these stickers on their 1/48?

Also, are the original stickers that come with the 1/48s pre-cut?

I am finally glad to be a part of the 1/48 club!

With the GBP Armor coming out next year, I guess the big question is if Takatoys is going to make some custom stickers for the armor. Any word?

  3. so the there would be a chance that the VF-0D seen at the 2004 Hobby Expo could the Hasegawa's kit and not the scratch build that has been seen in the Hobby Japan magazines?

    here's a pic...

That is just one cool looking plain design. That fact that it transforms in the series is a bonus!

  4. When I went to the Comic Con, I saw a painted version of the MPC Lion Voltron. It did not transform, but it showed what the sculpt and the paint scheme looked like it was the same size if not bigger than my Lionbot. At the time though, all the buzz was about the MPC Alpha so I don't think the Voltron toy got much attention.

I tried to find a picture of it next to the Alpha to get a sence of scale, but I could not find a pic. Here is a pic of it though. It looking pretty good!

Does anyone remember " Stealth Voltron" and "Voltrex Voltron"?

What were those? Did they ever make it in the show?

  5. Effect,

Thanks for that link to the Voltron Force web page. I have been looking for that!

I love the comics! Infact, I was an avid collector until my local comic book store closed down :(

On the flip side I was able to get a mint Voltron series 2 #1 at this year's SD Comic Con for only $1.00! :)

    AND

I was able to buy a TPB of series 1 and have it signed along with ALL my other Voltron comics by the artists and writers by Devil's Due! :D:D:D

I'm also looking forward to the new MPC Lion Voltron Toy. It's looking really good with more of a sleeker look like the anime and tons more articulation than the Lion Bot I had. I just hope it comes with all the weapons like my Lion Bot did. Let's just hope it does not cost and arm and a leg

  6. Kin,

Just downloaded the legs and :blink::blink:

Simply AMAZING!!! I am impressed. If you haven't already thought of it you should go professional...actually the fact that you did not go professional makes it possible for us to have it for free, that and the goodness in your heart :D

    But seriously, good work man!

hey mate! If this is gonna be a team effort, Im willing to help somehow if possable.....

as for the fold lines, take a look at the paper MAC II Monster if you havent already. they use lines just a few shades diff from the surrounding color, and they look great.

    promethuem 5

You are responsible for that MAC II Monster? I was very impressed with that as well, but I lost the file. Do you know when I can download another?

  7. I'm going to get the others. I voted for the first. I had no major problems with my Alpha and I like this little guy. The only problem was a lose right arm. It was nothing some well placed super glue and some constant motion could not fix.

The cool thing is that Toynami recognized the QC issues and was willing to exchange it for a new one, but I decided not to since I already put so much work into it.

As long as I know that the QC is improving and IF I get a defective on I can exchange it, I have no problems with my Alpha.

I missed out on these Alphas years ago so I'm pretty happy with what I'm getting now. Having a Shadow Alpha would be AWESOME and having the Betas would be a very nice bonus :D

  8. Does any one know what that hatch thing is where the alphas butt is?

    Thanks

That folds in to make room for the canopy in robot mode.

How do I pop it out again to make it flush in fighter mode?

If it is really jammed hard you might have to use a flat head screw driver or butter knife to gently pry it out. If you look closely you will notice two little holes on each side of it. Those holes refect how far in hatch should go.

In this pic of my Alpha in Guardian mode, you can see the hatch pushed in.

    105alpha_guardian_1.jpg

Push it in any farther than that and you will have problems. I made the mistake of pushing it in all the way and it was pretty hard to open it up again.

    Hope that helps.

  9. Kin,

    That is simply AMAZING!!! :blink::blink::blink:

I just saw your thread and was glued to it since page one.

You not only voiced your dissatisfaction with what is out there but you planned out, engineered and contructed your own...and all after work

Very, very impressive. I can truely appreciated your work and your passion shows. Good job Kin!

I look forward to seeing your final product.

  10. Amped, That sucks man :( Kevin is a cool guy. Again, we are fortunate to have such good internet retailers like Kevin and Tam here :)

Again, not all are defects. There is some hope.

Finally, here or some pics of of my MPC Alpha in Guardian mode.

  11. I'm pretty satisfied with mine. The only major problem I had was that the right arm was loose at the shoulder. Looks like it is missing a rubber washer.

I e-mailed Toynami but this was after I detailed my Alpha so I don't think they will be exchanging me with a new one. The just of the e-mail to them was to tighten up on their qc.

    BTW

I think I just fixed the loos joint with...Elmers Glue All  A little bit of that in there seams to have tightened up that shoulder :D I'll know if it really works in the morning. If it does work, I will be really satisified :)

  12. It actually looks fairly good.. then again, this is SDFCommander, who even made the MPC VF looks good. :p

Seems like build material and QC issues are the main bugbears of the Alpha. Sort of like Yamato in the early early days. I guess I would have to take apart and rebuild some parts of the Alpha if and when I get one (no big deal, I take apart things on a regular basis anyway..)

The head sculpt for the Blue Alpha looks good. Tempting, really.. but I really only want a good Red Alpha.

    Thanks Lynx,

This time was was not that hard to make these Alpha's look good

My Alpha basically did not have any problems. The only thing was floppy arm in the shoulder. It looks like the rubber washer was missing.

I don't have a lot of practice taking glued parts apart. Someone mentioned that I can use model cement to stiffen the joint. I just want to stiffen it not glue it. Anyone have any other ideas of what I could do stiffen up that shoulder joint? I'm not sure if nail polish will be strong enough.

I'll try to post some pics of Ammo Diver/Guardian mode tommorrow along with a shot that shows how much ground clearance I was able to get in fighter mode.

What you can't see are all the little white "Danger" stickers on all the missle hatches. They should be more visible on the Red Alpha...

Again I really hope these qc problems are solved because I would really like to have a Shadow Fighter and a Beta
