  1. Mospeada was alright, but I had more problems with it than say Macross when it came to some of the story elements.

Mecha and aliens aside, the biggest problem of Mospeada for me was the ability of the group of heroes to escape any danger despite being a very small group. With Macross and other sci-fi anime of the early 80s, there were tertiary/cannon fodder characters that would die in each episode that made lack of injury and death on the part of the main character less glaring. In Mospeada there was very little of that and so each main character became a bit more unbelievable than in other shows in the same genre. Inbit would be firing from all directions and not a scratch on the main characters who would many times be fighting without the assistance of mecha. Towards the end when the humanoid Inbit came around it got even more unbelievable. Especially the episode (can't remember the number) where all the main characters were simply out in the snow without any mecha facing down attacks from Gurabs and even a Gosu and they all survived. It made the Inbit look as bad as Transformers, G.I. Joes, or Stormtroopers in terms of aiming accuracy.

I also never particularly understood why the Inbit would bother sticking around anywhere in a physical form when its apparent that they could turn into some type of invincible energy whenever they wanted to. They didn't even have to leave Earth at the end. Coulda just zapped the invasion fleet like they already did and then come right back.

  2. Does Toynami have any intention of making enemy mecha like the New Generation/Mospeada Gosu/Gorse? That would be incredible if they did. I've noticed they've yet to produce any Zentradi mechs from the Macross saga, so I'm not holding out much hope for bad guy toys from them.

  3. Enemy mecha would be so very, very nice. Valkyries are great and all, but it seems that all classic mecha toy licenses, no matter which company, goes for the meat of the line and forgets the rest. Glaug, Regult, N-Ger, and the variations on these would definitely get my money before more VF-1s. I'm already loving the first Q-Rau toy ever made (it is, isn't it?). The green TV varient is still one of my most dreamed of anime mecha turned plastic toy wishes.

Destroids of course would be extremely nice as well, but enemy mecha first!

  4. Not much of a question, but I've had the Macross box sets from Animeigo for about a year now and just started watching them. This is the first time I've seen Macross for about six years, and I noticed that some scenes the animation is so choppy as to look like it came from a slide projector. Is it the DVDs or were parts of Macross actually that poorly animated? My memory on this aspect of the show is really bad, so I had to ask. I continually read about Animefriend being a bad studio, but it really takes the cake for poor animation in a few scenes.
