  1. I still like the VF-31, but I'm increasingly disappointed that they don't have giant pictures of their associated idols plastered all over them as part of their paint schemes.

I remember well the uproar in the Ace Combat community when the itasha fighters showed up. If memory serves I think I bought the Tomcat with Asuza on it (because I'll buy any Tomcat mostly).

It was certainly divisive. Although they didn't offend me, many felt......different shall we say?!

  2. Sorry to hear about your troubles Moosey,

Did you see my thread on weathering my VF-0D?

    http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=35120&page=93#entry1203668

If you look at my signature below, and go to the archived links thread, scroll down to the toys and you can find a few other links to my experience in weathering the VF-0D - I didn't have to re-paint the entire thing, but I did use an airbrush to do the salt weathering techniques to lighten the overall blue.

    Good luck.

Thanks WM, you've done a spectacular job there alright. That's pretty much what I want to do alright.

Looks like an airbrush will be required alright.

Speaking of salt weathering, I've experimented a little with that this afternoon...

I'll post some pictures later (don't hold your breath though, it not that great!)

Things not going as I'd hoped really.

I think I need an airbrush.

The light wash is very susceptible to bubbles.

Also as I mentioned earlier, the plastic is so shiny.

It just won't take. My dreams of making it lighter may

    not be realised.

The wings take the wash quite well but not the fuselage.

    Particularly the chest plate.

Think I'll have to start over tomorrow.

    Sorry they're upside down

  4. Am I gettin' old or is every one of these new fangled transformation sequences or battle sequences getting faster and choppier - those darn youngsters, what happened to taking a step back and enjoying the glory of the ingenuity of engineering and seeing the entire battle from a distance to get a feel for the big picture instead of these fast cut clips?!

Which is why every new Valk should enjoy a mandatory VF-0S Macross Zero like sequence on it's debut!

  5. That's nonsense. A handful of episodes of light-heartedness don't set the tone for the entire series. Nothing says "whimsical" like an idol singer getting slapped around by her abusive manager/cousin/whatever, who is a drunk, while trying to rebuild civilization in the ruins of humanity. Good times. Or our hero's sempai bleeding out on the couch of his girlfriend. Or hundreds of thousands of civilians being obliterated in what amounts to a military accident when a shield overloads on our beloved SDF-1. Or any one of a thousand things that actually set a fairly serious tone for the series.

Some of you guys really need to go back and rewatch SDF Macross (or, perhaps, watch it for the first time). Certainly, the franchise has evolved and diversified since then, but to say the original didn't have a serious tone is revisionist nonsense.

Edit: heck, i totally forgot to mention that our idol was used as a weapon of psychological warfare.

What's to say that future episodes of Delta won't venture down the grittier paths you mention?

Kawamori already alluded to the fact that later episodes would vary in tone.

There could be a decision to nuke a whole city in the future because Var has surpassed Walkure's ability to suppress it, or they were tasked elsewhere and a tough executive decision has to be made.

There are some well made points and valid arguments in this thread but imhop the negativity is OTT considering how much we have seen so far.

  6. I would consider myself a "gear guy" too and the CAD renders aren't putting me off.

Obviously there is a real possibility that the DX toy will follow suit and that doesn't bother me either.

The trailing link design is somewhat reminiscent of the F-18, so there's some precedent.

I like that it potentially brings the rear units closer to the front of the Valk. As WM Cheng mentioned, Valk landing gear is often too far back.

The only potential issue with this is centre of gravity as if it's too far forward, it might want to sit on its ass.

Another observation is that if the DX toy follows suit, in certain dynamic batroid poses, the wheels could be exposed - which I'm not keen on.

  7. I'm still hoping the DX toy will have a rear hinged nose gear - just looks better.

The rear landing gear is quite a departure from what's gone before. I quite like it.
