1. Wasn't CC's brother the one who's business or halfway house got burned down, got denied the insurance proceeds, became a drunk, and then caused the accident that killed Snake Eyes' parents and sister and not Cobra Commander himself?

The Commander was definitely a used car salesman though.

Yup, in the comics, CC's brother was the person who caused the wreck that killed Snake Eyes' family. CC's brother had started drinking heavily and was DUI when the accident occured. CC wanted to blame someone for the wreck other than his brother's own actions, so he wanted to take out revenge on Snake Eyes, which led CC to bring in Zartan and Firefly as assassins.

  2. The Dress Blues Gung-ho was certainly one of the more unique and cool looking figures and it inspired me go for the role of a Marine in the school Christmas Pageant shortly after he came out... my mom based the costume more on him than the photo we found of a Marine uniform. The only problem with that Gung-ho as a toy was trying to explain why he was running around doing stuff in his tidiest outfit... you KNOW Gung-ho would've at least opened the jacket up (and probably tore open his shirt as soon as bullets started flying :p ). He makes a great display figure though. Hasbro should do him up, but also give us somebody in Army, Navy, and Air Force dress uniforms... heck, and throw in Cutter in a Coast Guard outfit. Would make a nice set and if they did it so the hats weren't part of the head, it might appeal to those who would want to customize a bunch of Joes in their Sunday best.

Ages ago, when I first saw the Dress Blues Gung-ho, I wondered what he was supposed to fight Cobra with given that all he had was that dress sword of his. Maybe his strength? Now I know it was an attempt to portray a Marine in dress blues, but IIRC wasn't there a 12" Gung-ho in blues with at least an M-16/M-203 combo or something?

  3. I forget what exactly happened, but in the recent line, Storm shadow either blew up, or cut off one of Bludd's hands.

Wow! If I haven't had to spend so much on tuition in recent years, I'd kept up with the current comic. I guess Bludd will have need of a robot arm then.

  4. The main dissapointment of that wave is that Major Bludd's robot arm cannot bend at the elbow. The vintage figure did not have a moveable robotic arm either but still, its dissapointing. I hope we get another Major Bludd from the line, maybe his 2nd uniform, and have both arms with moving elbows, not just one.

The problem with Major Bludd is that I don't think he was ever supposed to have a robot arm. I saw somewhere sketches of early Bludd designs, and it is clear that he was intended to have some sort of armor covering his arm that got turned into some sort of stiff robot looking arm thing. Later Major Bludd figures ditched that wierd covering and had normal arms. Even his comic book characterizations have always been shown as possessing normal arms, unless something has happened recently in the current incarnation of the comic to force him to loose an arm.

  5. The first snake eyes toy had goggles flush to his mask but that wasn't exactly comic accurate, whereas the new one is. The main similarity I see with the 4th version is the grills or vents in the mask but those are actually accurate to the 1st comic appearance as well. The 4th version also had ninja arm guards and boots....this new version is completely commando absent of any ninjutsu attire

Ah, I need to pull out my old Marvel comics. B)) I haven't read them since I started graduate school :o, and I forgot how the original 1982/1983 Snake Eyes looked there. Maybe Hasbro will do a three pack of CC, Destro and Snake Eyes from the unmasking issue.

  6. I could definitely see buying some of these. Snake Eyes looks awesome and it's good to finally see a well proportion Ma Duece (I miss my Ma Duece  ).

I don't know. Snake Eyes looks like a black version of the blue and red one from 1991 that came with the grappling hook, gun, and two swords Snake Eyes 1991. I always thought the original had a pair of goggles that was flush with the commando hood he wore. However, the first Snake Eyes I owned was the one with Timber from 1985 Snake Eyes 1985. At least CC looks more like his comic version by having a flatter facemask than the original version. :)

  7. I don't think anyone was ever going to confuse Regult or Reguld with "battlepod"

I thought I remember Regult being used in one of the Robotech episodes as a PA announcement or something. Then again, its been nearly 20 years since I watched Robotech!

  8. Because that's what it is in Japanese: リガード. Rigaado is the romanization in modified Hepburn.

The mildly amusing thing is that on pg. 168, of Macross Perfect Memory, next to the Japanese katakana, is 'Regult' in big, block letters. I am, once again, impressed by the language translating abilities of Animeigo.

I thought Harmony Gold mandated certain translations/spellings in the Animeigo DVD set so as not to confuse it with their Robotech release.

  9. Boots? WTF? Why the hell are you supporting the damn boots?! <_<

    395868

How do you tell those dvd's at animecornerstore are boots btw?

    395872

Those are Animeigo originals in their 3 pack releases not boots.

  10. Awesome pic!

Is it any familiar ship the one being blown up sky-high in the pic? Or just an unlucky one being direct-hit?

Don't recall seeing that particular pic before.

    385618

That's the Yamato blowing up in that photo. As the ship sank, it rolled on its side and one of the forward magazines exploded, blowing the ship in two.

  11. The only toy mail away I ever got was one well after I was a kid. I sent in for two of those 12" Limited Edition GI Joe "Joseph Colton" dolls. They sent me one and a refund for the other... seems they limited you to one per address. The thing is worth almost nothing today... yipee!  <_<

    371311

I sent in for that, and they sent my flag points back saying they had sold out. Next thing I know, Hasbro sent me an Arctic Joseph Colton because so many people complained about not getting the Green Beret version. Go figure.

  12. Its a historical thing. I can't remember exactly what, but possibly some international convention like the one that settled on GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).

Up until WWII, French was a diplomatic language and remains a widely spoken language in many parts of the world. Plus, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) was formed in 1874 to coordinate the passage of international mail from country to country. French was picked as the official language of the Union, so it's a good chance that that is why international labels must contain French.

  13. So far as I can tell, the sale is over.  I put it off too long (worked on a music video all week, had time only to shower before i fell asleep as i stood) and now I can't get Mospeada for fifteen bucks.

ADV has been running these sales on every holiday or whenever they need to get rid of excess inventory. Don't worry. Halloween is coning up and ADV might hold a sale then or even earlier. :)

  14. yoda gets f*cked up during th battle with Darth Sidius that he no longer fights. According to some rumors I heard, Yoda vs Darth Sidius is the 2nd longest fight in the whole star wars movie other than Anakin vs Obi Wan. After that huge lighting strike and Yoda falling soo many stories into the ground, I woudnt be surprised, the ol guy threw in the towel

Don't forget that Yoda strained himself in ESB raising that X-Wing, which probably caused him to die in Return of the Jedi. At least that's what a good friend of mine thinks. :D

  15. At the very least though, pic up the DC disc's, the changes are worth it.

The DC discs of the Platinum release or the non-Platinum DC releases? I have the DC DVD before the current Platinum releases, so I'm happy with those. Right now I just can't justify double dipping EVA DVDs as tuition here at the university is going up, up, up, and my TV is giving up the ghost, meaning I'm going to have to start creating a new TV fund. :(:o
