  1. he only needs to make one-sided molds. Sounds crazy but cuz I am lazy i just use mold putty mixed one to one by hand, press the putty onto the piece on a flat surface, then make molds from the impression.

dont get cheap quick resins like alumilite unless you love bubbles. I use smooth on and after a pour into the one piece i cheat by putting the mold against a large flat surface like a cd-case. After cure, very minimal cept for some flash that got between the mold and the flat surface. This only works for one piece molds, two piecers are a whole different ball game

Bubbles? My experience with Smooth-On is that the stuff may be carbonated. So many bubbles....

I'm a fan of PolyTek's resins, but Smooth-On does make good mold rubber.

  2. /raises hand

You're not alone, I played with those too in the early 80's. I think those were mid-70's sets (pre-minifig). The boxes were rigid styrofoam with formed plastic trays for the pieces and a cardboard flap to cover the trays. The wheels were thesered 2x2 cylinder with a thin metal shaft you could slot into a 4x2 black brick with tiny holes in the 4 sides. So easy to make gatling guns with those :D

YES! I still have some of those wheels, too! I forgot all about them.

  3. I never had any Fabuland, but I've got a few of those red fences. I think they might be some of the stuff I have that dates back to the old figures; the ones based around the 2x2 bust pieces that the heads and arms plugged into.

I hope I"m not the only one who remembers those....

  4. Yup, click-hinges suck. I thought LEGO had eliminated most of them by now, but it seems they're still around. Trying to think how they would have been connected "back in the day"----removable tile pieces over minimal studs?

Technic pieces with holes through them, and a couple of those gray Technic pegs

Or, was it still called Expert Builder, back then?

  5. Indeed. Fox is horrible with their scifi shows....Firefly....Terminator....dollhouse....I miss any others that really didn't take off on popularity until it was over?

I don't know about ones that became more popular afterwards, but they had a slew of genre shows in the 90s that were all cancelled in short order, without getting a chance to find their feet. VR5 was a bit surreal, but it had an interesting back story going. Strange Luck ended on a cliffhanger. Brimstone was just great, lot of fun. The verbal jousting between the lead character and the Devil was some of the best writing this side of Whedon.

I think Dark Angel was doing half way decent, when they cancelled it to make room for Firefly.

Fringe was doing great, before they moved it to the Friday night kiss of death time slot. Then, they cancelled it, because the ratings dropped.
