  1. So that was her eh?... Some friends and I were on the way to McDonalds when they were shooting that (Downtown Vancouver BTW) and asumed it wasn't her (just didn't look like her to us, but then again what do we know? :D )... Cool, that makes the second celeb sighting for me, the first being wesley snipes shooting Blade 3.... Go Vancouver! :D

  2. Thanks for your help Aztek, it's much appreciated and if I ever get some custom hands finished and into production you definitely have dibs. ;)

    Custom....1/48 hands? :D

Maybe.... Depends how well the prototypes go (not sure when I'll be getting around to actually making some) and how much of a pain they would be to reproduce (ie. cast), but ya there's a possiblity there might be some "Crazy Canuck 1/48 poseable custom hands" and they'll even come in spiffy film containers just like my heads did. :D

  3. I have a fine scale ruler, so maybe by tonight I'll get you the deminsions you need.

Great news!!. Thanks again Aztek... Say any chance I could include another measuerment?

I need to know the width of the forearm opening (or the hatch for that matter) which the hands pass through when rotating them into the stored position.

    Thanks :D

  4. Just had a vision while browsing cwmodel's HobbyFan site and covering several kit-bash/scratch builders threads on articulated hands.

Does everyone ever pay attention to those silvery, household light switch chains made up of dozens of those little, stamped-steel balls? The ones in at least one place around our homes that we yank on & off absentmindedly? Pretty sturdy considering how long they last before one of the ball links gives way.

I've got them on my dogtags too, but I've seen a smaller diam. ball-chain available in some stores than this common size. If these were affixed to a mecha palm unit or metal gauntlet as 4 fingers & a thumb, styrene, epoxy clay or pvc could be fit over them and shaped as fingers.

A little time spent shaping & sanding the built-up digits would yield excellent fingers with full mobility. A length of household electrical wire or even a heat softened paper clip could be aligned along the dorsal axis of each finger prior to covering with plastic to allow only flexion/extension in one direction. Also, if each ball on the link is too close for proper finger length, 2 balls & the interlink could be covered to provide proper "phalanges" length btwn joints.

When I get off duty, I'm gonna drum up a test proto like this:

    /0-0-0-0-0

    llll-o-o-o-o-oo

    llll-o-o-o-o-o-o

    llll-o-o-o-o-o-o

    llll-o-o-o-o-o

Each finger viewed from side/edge on will be constructed like this:

    ------------------------------ <---- WWWWWWWW

    o-o-o-o-o-o-O-o-o-o-o-o

    Symbol legend:

    --------: straight somewhat stiff wire

    -o-o-o-: ball-link pull chain(small guage stuff, Michael's/HmDepot)

WWW: dental floss, to be wound axially around the chain/wire

    finger

The dental floss will help stabilize the wire & chain elements and provide a glue friendly, resilient mounting surface for the built up finger material.

Gonna have to bug someone w/a scanner to post pics. And disposable 35-film to record the event!!

    I'm such a trog!

I too may be venturing into poseable custom hands.... By any chance could you post a link to the cwmodel's HobbyFan threads about articulated hand of which you spoke?

Now that I've got the reference I need for the VF-1 DYRL style hands, I'm thinking about how to go about making them. My biggest problem is since I don't have a 1/48 available I don't even know how big of a hand I'm even talking about. What I really need are some basic demensions.... If anyone wants to help please refer to this thread: DYRL style hands

Anyway, I look forward to seeing how your ideas develop. ;)

  5. Excellent!... Thanks so much for the pics Aztek, they will be most valuable.

Your, 3D valk looks sweet... One of these days, I'll have to make one of my own. ;D

Anyway, thanks again for the pics and the advice...... Now if I could just get those measurments for the current 1/48 hands I'd be half way there.... Ok maybe not half way, but at least it would be a good start. :D

    Thanks again.

  6. I'm still looking for some help :D... Right now I'm in more need of the basic dimensions of the 1/48 hand, since with out those I don't even know what size hand I'm dealing with, so here's another pic (this time an acutal 1/48 hand) of the parts I need measurments for (in order of importance).

    148_hand_size2.jpg

    Thanks ;)

  7. Have you thought of looking into buying an RT Super Poseable? I noticed the hand sculpts is from DYRL because the fingers are more squared off than rounded (like the TV's version). Hope this helps.

    ~G25

I hadn't thought of that..... But, I'm not to sure how usefull they would be since I'm planning on scratch building a set of poseable DYRL hands that look a little nicer than the current 1/48. Idealy I want them to be poseable, bigger and still work with the transformation. However since I've yet to even see a 1/48 in person, let alone handled one. I'm not sure how difficult it's going to be, but for now I'm just concidering designs, hence my need for accurate pics as well as the current 1/48 hand measurments. :)

  8. I have another favor to ask..... :D

Since my 1/48 VF-1S is with all my other stuff (in fact I've never even set eyes on it :( ) I was wondering if someone could take some hand measurements for me? I would like to fill in the following: (red=minimum black=bonus)

BTW, In case no one guessed, I'm thinking about exparimenting with some custom 1/48 DYRL hands.

  9. Hey all, I was wondering if anyone knows of a site that has pics the vf-1 DYRL style hand seen in the Macross design works, or something that shows it in similar detail?

If not, perhapses someone would be so kind as to post pics here?

    Thanks in advance. :)

  10. So they always had planned to release the 1J  <_<

I hope that YF-21 is in 1/60 scale or something :)

It's possible Yamato was always planning on making the J, but those pics are not the proof, since the top half of the page is the Hasegawa battroid, not the Yamato 1/48.

As for the YF-21.... From the looks of it that's a Hasegawa as well. (not sure though)

    :)

  11. cool. very cool!!!

i personally think this is the best of the bunch, much better than the other 3 before it (optimus/megatron/arcee).

here's more info straight from palisades if anyone was interested...

    "Thursday - 11/13/03

You’ve seen 3 beautifully rendered 3-D models from George Tremarco. George is the guy who is doing these renders for us, in the computer, that we use to sculpt the Transformers Deluxe Polystone Statues. Well, here is the fourth…Soundwave. Standing in a more upright position than the other 3 statues, this 3-D render is UNBELIEVABLY cool.

Some things to note are that the cassette window will be open and the feet will be flat against the ground in the final sculpt. He will be on a crushed Decepticon logo base, just like Megatron!

    "

i think it's much better closed. But with an open cassette window, how cool would it be to have a "special" laserbeak addition that could be mounted on his shoulder or arm? :D

Very cool sculpt.... But according to palisades this was actully done in 3D, which means what we're seeing could be a 3D render (which I think it is) not a real life copy

Just something to think about. :)

  12. Here's a thought on how to fix/strengthen the backpack connector.

It will require some light surgery, but all in all, nothing radical. The idea is to glue one of those thin metal strips you can get a hobby stores (steel, aluminum, brass, etc) to the side of the connector. Since just adding the strip won't really help, you'll need to make a slot for the metal strip, so it's firmly anchored to the base of the connector. once in place some light putty, sanding and painting should hide things just fine.

Check out the below pic for a better explanation.
