  1. Dystopian shock value with a evil overlord commanding children to kill other children to perpetually punish rebellious provinces or what ever they are called.

Although I have not read the books or watched the movie.

Media that deals with Dystopian futures have to use obscene and violent imagery to make up for a lack of logical and reasonably narrative that explains how things came to be.

Do the books explain the previous hundred year and how North America became a giant internment camp.

In the books the story is set hundreds of years after a nuclear war. The districts themselves were basically just hold outs of civilization.

  2. Speaking of evangelion clones, does anyone remember that show from I think the early or mid 2000's where it was basically Evangelion done as a light comedy? I liked that show.

    :edit:

Finally remembered what it was: Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure

So yeah, it's basically Evangelion if evangelion was a harem comedy by the same dude who created Tenchi Muyo!

From what I understand Dual! is set within the Tenchi megaverse.

Back on topic, it does feel evangelionish, but it ends on a much happier tone.

  3. Aren't they featured in one of those role playing game books which was announced 2 years ago and has yet to be released?

As far as I know they're released all the updated RPG books.

Unless they were planning other RPG manuals. I wouldn't be complaining about that. That's the only piece of merchandise I'm interested in.

  4. uhhh, not really.

Gundam may be look better, but I think that's more of Bandai always having better (or rather, properly maintained) masters of it than they ever have of their Macross.

That and Zeta had some good animation for a 50 episode 80s anime. Though that might be due to the all hail Tomino thing and him getting a large budget.

  5. Still trying to look into that, but everything is so secretive in Japan (I mean, they're f*ckin' cartoons, not state secrets! This ain't f#$%ing Wikileaks!), that I'm having a hard time piecing everything together. Anyway, let's just say that BigWest has pretty much absolute power over everything with the Macross name on it, to the point of stubbornness, and other companies actually have quite a hard time with that.

tbh I'm glad BW has the balls to control it's IP.

  6. And on the mecha end that can be connected to Gundam Wing in 99/2000. I guess subtly transformers has always done that in the US, but I think when CN dropped GW, a couple of other stations scrambled to get a mecha show out asap.

And oh god all the Yaoi that spawned. GW Yaoi still made by the bucketload both in Japan and the U.S.
