  1. Is there any way to get a burned blu-ray of DYRL with subtitles already added to it so it can be watched from a regular BD player?

(I own the non-limited version of the BD already, so it would be my one legal backup copy, not trying to pirate anything, but words would be nice :) )

  2. are you interviewing the franchise for a date or something

I totally am. The franchise is still hot, but it's getting older. I need to get my shot in before everything hits the floor.

Personal canon (one "n") can be anything you want; it's personal :) But if you're asking for an opinion, I can't think of anything objectionable about your list. Just an FYI, to my knowledge there has never been any official declaration of canon for the Macross intellectual property.

I guess I should reword my question because I reread it and I sound like a rambling idiot.

Is there any occurence, date given, character death, or other factoid that would technically prevent Macross II from happening after Macross Plus or Macross 7 other than it being disavowed by the Macross creators?

  3. Okay, here's one more: can anyone list the specific reasons one's personal cannon couldn't be the following: DYRL or SDF Macross, Flashback, Plus, followed by Macross II. Like, what in particular (dates, characters, whatnot) simply can't be retconned into making it work, or what would have to be blatantly ignored to make that work? Heck, I suppose 7 could be thrown in there between Plus and II as well. I know nothing about Frontier. And, well, I didn't enjoy Zero much, so I guess I just left it off, though it would obviously go at the beginning.

  4. Thank you. I try hard to make the M3 as complete as one part-time amateur person such as myself can, lol :)

The age of Max and Milia in Macross 7 is treated rather tongue-in-cheek by the creative staff. Kawamori himself once said something silly about how Max doesn't age like the rest of us because of his genius :) The two are drawn older than they appeared in the original series, but yes, they look FAR younger than they should be for 2045.

As for the Max and Milia relationship, it's probably best you either watch the Macross 7 series or read spoiler reviews of the show. The MAHQ has detailed episode by episode reviews of the all the Macross shows.

It'll be a while, but I did just find a torrent for Macross 7 with subtitles, so maybe I'll get around to it in a few months.

  5. Robowang

The information on my website is taken from Egan Loo's incredible Macross Compendium (I reference his website at the bottom of most of the profiles on my website). Most of the information is official.

    Wow, it is IMPRESSIVELY elaborate.

    Another question:

About how old are Max and Millia during the Macross 7 show? They don't seem to be drawn it, but wouldn't Max at least have to be in his 60s?

Also, I read somewhere that they are divorced in Macross 7. What's up with that?

  6. Ah, interesting! So they essentially made a toy which was half unused design? That's kinda neat. Elint Seeker is basically the equivilent of a Star Wars "random background character" figure. Except crazy elaborate and expensive. I'll have to see if I can spot one in DYRL next time I watch :)

The VE-1 ELINT Seeker is an electronic warfare version of the VF-1 Valkyrie that appeared in the 1984 film The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?. My website has a profile on the craft that can be found here:

    http://www.macross2.net/m3/macrossdyrl/ve-1-elintseeker-valkyrie.htm

    Hope that helps :)

Sweet Jesus that's elaborate. Is all that info from some kind of translated guide? My eyes can't even pick one of those numbers to focus on :)

  7. all three grew up as the Mickey Mouse bunch. really likely 4 since the one girl with huge hair was also a close friend of Myung's. they got into high school and Myung started to get the hots of Isamu (but Isamu wasnt yet into it, his lover was Aviation first and foremost. Guld, being of the 1st generation microns still had major anger issues, quick to rage and judge. (he already thought that Isamu was a irresposible jerk). and the Kicker: Guld did have feelings for Myung, too. so seeing them in a percieved intemate moment, Guld Rage-Quit and beat the snot out of Isamu and also almost assaulted Myung. it isnt shown (only stated that he blocked that memory out) but ill guess that Guld leaves the apartment in shame, and Isamu and Myung DO NOT PRESS charges, since they understand his temper because of his race, as male Zentradi. eventually Myung departs to mend her broken heart though a musical career. Isamu joins the Armed Forces (i dont know if he followed RL pathways through college to earn his commisiion or in the Macross Fictional universe, its much easier to earn a commision into the Officer Ranks as a pilot) and starts a long career of Epic fails... apparently they need all the bodies they can get, considering the number of events that in RL would have gotten Isamu resigning his commision and doing time in Levenworth probably.

    can i stop now?

    Thanks for the reply!

    Next question:

    "Elint Seeker."

Okay, so I see a flood of these weird looking things on ebay lately. What show are they from and were they a normal ship used in a show/ova/movie? They sorta look like Misa Hayase's radar ship from before she was captured by Breetai & Co., but I don't think that transformed.

  8. So I just rewatched Macross Plus after maybe 10 years. I didn't understand what the heck was up between Isamu and Guld and Myung before, and I still don't now.

Were either of the guys dating Myung in the flashbacks? All we really get is a scene of Myung crying on Isamu, followed by Guld busting in, punching Isamu, and ripping open Myung's shirt.

I mean, there's plenty to speculate on, but it's all just made up, at least in my English version.

Was Myung dating Guld, he upset her, and then the flashback scene is her finding solace in Isamu and Guld catching them? And it's all because of some Zentraedi rage?

Is something lost in the English translation, or is the backstory just purposely not filled in?

  9. Man, if someone could make a custom head and feet, the Matchbox Robotech male power Armor could be a pretty decent DYRL Nousjadeul Ger. Just add paint! Kinda tempting.

There's an amazing 1/100 version from some toy show a couple years ago, but it seems to be selling for $400. That's a little nuts.

How big is 1/144, anyway? Like a couple inches tall?

  10. A TV version Q-Rau would be awesome, just because of the sweet eye/sensor thing. I love those on the Battlepods, too.

How about the DYRL MALE armor? Those things were awesome, but I haven't even seen a model kit for them. I never liked the TV male armor.

  11. But the "forward-swept wing Valkyrie", actually called the YF-19, is from Macross Plus, which was released in 1994. So it's not very recent at all... Can't blame you though; the original show is and will probably always be the best. However, Macross Plus is generally considered one of the best sequels, so you should give it a try. The same goes for the toys!

Oh, I knew about that one, but I have such a crappy eye for detail that I just assumed it was something different. I can barely tell the difference between a Macross Plus white Valkyrie, a Macross II white Valkyrie, a Flashback Valkyrie, and all this stuff from Frontier. Maybe It's the colors, because even without having watched it, I can identify a Fire Valkyrie :)

FYI, I have seen Original, DYRL, II, Plus, and Zero (which I didn't really enjoy, but hey) but I haven't seen 7, 7 movies, Frontier, or Frontier movies. So pretty much anything subtitles that's more then a few episodes :)

And of course I have NOTHING against any of those series. I'm just one of those OG guys :)

  12. Hmmm. Still liking the old Bandai's better. Maybe it's a nostalgia thing :)

Really, though, any big versions of the Hikaru Strike Valkyrie VF-1S would be amazing. The only Yamato version of that seems to sell for well over $500, and that's just NUTS.

Good to know that this Arcadia thing I keep hearing about is actually the Yamato company, though. I thought it was just that garish looking forward-swept wing Valkyrie I keep seeing pictures of. Thought that was called the Arcadia or something.

Can you tell I haven't watched any of the more recent Macross series? :)

  13. Thanks for the info!

Also, I'm sad, because the cockpit doesn't actually close over the Max figure. I took off his boots and positioned his arms, and he looks great sitting in there (minus it being Millia's) but because of his shoulder pads, the two side pieces don't close all the way. I guess that saves me $100+ for not having to buy the Max suit.

    Damn, Macross is expensive.

On that note, at least I have a thing for the old Bandai Valkyrie mold. Those seems to be a bit cheaper than those removable leg Yamato things that I don't like.

Are any companies ever going to make Valkyries again, or is that pretty much over for good?

  14. So is this "Queadluun Rehr/Rare" thing I see on ebay just the same toy with a new "face" or is it something different? From what I can tell, there's some Klang Klang girl who uses it in Macross Frontier? I've never seen it, but I'm curious about the toy.

  15. Sweet holy crap! I have never owned one of these until today...I got the DYRL Milia 639 red Queadluun Rau mecha and OH MY GOSH this thing is one of the coolest toys I have ever owned. I had no idea the figure included was the same size as the CMS figures, nor that the whole thing was this BIG.

So is this why the CMS Zentraedi outfit Max figure is leaning back in that pose a little bit? Does he actually fit in the blue version of this mecha? Or does that one come with a Max figure?

Now I just gotta find a Bandai 1/55 DYRL Valkyrie in Max colors to go up against this baby!

Also, it looks really nice on display with the old Matchbox Robotech Battlepod and Officer Pod.

  16. Looking for the CMS collection HIkaru figure, regular version, not the green exclusive one.

Please let me know if you have one for sale or if you are interested in trading for Transformers.

Please send me a private message if interested. I may not see responses to this thread!

    Thanks!

  17. Sweet holy crap this is a nice translation and compilation. Thanks again, Gubaba!

Question, though - what do you hate so much about the last line? Just too corny? Heck, the line BEFORE that bothered me, the very forced mention of "another man."

The only things I dislike about the story itself are the occasional mentionings of events that happen in the Macross series (IE "the earth would eventually be scorched, but not for another two years" or whatever). I kinda wanted to use this story as an introduction/prequel to Macross to get my wife interested in watching the show with me, but some of those references give away some fairly big plot points.

  18. There really needs to be more Misa ANYTHING out there. :(

I wonder if we can compile a list of what there IS. I have a lot, but I certainly hope it's not ALL.

1/6 DYRL space suit model kit

    1/12 TV model kit

    1/6 20th(?) Anniversary figure regular

1/6 20th(?) Anniversary swimsuit figure - 3 colors, red, blue, or yellow (was there also green?)

    1998 Banpresto Saturn game figure

15th(?) anniversary tiny figurine with non-transformable valkyrie

CMS figure - 2 versions, painted or clear hair

    Robotech "Lisa Hayes" action figure

Robotech "Lisa Hayes" doll (I hate that thing so much)

    Upcoming/new cell phone strap

Unofficial/garage kit TV space suit 1/6 model kit (need!)

    White Reminiscences book

    Joint Book

I know she's been on a few trading cards/cell phone cards (that one gold cell phone card on ebay that will not ever sell, apparently)

That's all I know of. I have all of that minus the White Reminiscences book, cell strap, and garage kit model.

    What am I missing?
