  1. No we don't.

Ok fine technically we don't, but unless the current series of DX Chogokin tanks badly, and all indications are that it won't, it is almost a certainty that they will be issued. Do you have to be anal about such stuff? ^_^

Until Yamato fixes the shoulder hinge problem I won't be buying another v2 1/60 VF-1.

Hence my qualifier most... and its not like everybody's shoulders have been exploding. Any problems you have are entirely with Yamato, not me!

  2. Well, the VF-1S has gone through many iterations and most of the problems have been solved, and is a proven product (re-issue), while the VF-25 has numerous aesthetic issues and is a new product with unknown durability and QC issues. While both are at the same price, the VF-1S has wayyy more accessories and this is about as good as it gets, while we know that the VF-25 is going to be re-issued with Super and Armoured packs. (Just you wait for the Alto Super variant to appear and piss off all those who ordered the web exclusive!) When you think through all these issues, its really no surprise that more people are going for the VF-1S than the VF-25.

  3. Does this mean the RVF-25 will come with the three ghosts? Woohoo!! Always thought that would be awesome, one leader, and three 'slaves' doing most of the dirty work. I think the Bandai transformable snap-fit kits will be the first ones to be build. They sound easy enough, and can transform as well. Giving a much cheaper model then the Yamato toys for example. Next will probably the VF-0C deltawing. In my own custom livery though. B))

Yep it does! It's not out yet though, hlj is accepting pre-orders right now. I'm still getting to grips with my VF-25S, so its not an easy task!

  4. A better example is Shin and Edgar training with Roy. Shin was a USN aviator.

Now to the question, probably not. Unless the Destroid pilot had flight experience. The Chronicle mentions in the Destroid entry that Destroids were mainly a UN Army thing (at least when it was conceived). So unless the Destroid pilot had some flight training and experience, they may have a hard time piloting that thing outside of Battroid mode. But, GERWALK may be viable mode for Destroid pilots wanting to get more comfortable with Fighter mode.

Maybe an added usefulness of GERWALK mode is that it helps both aviators and destroid pilots to transition to the form that they are least comfortable with! You have to figure that some of the better destroid pilots on the Macross were probably reassigned to fill up the ranks in the VF squadrons, afterall.

  5. I'd say start with the Hasegawas first, since they are much much simpler than the Bandai kits, which have been compared to their Gundam MG line. Alternatively, if you can wait, and want a 'do-it-all' kit, you can get the 1/72 Luca, do the Ghost fighters first (which will be simpler, and you can try things out 3 times before you're out of Ghosts) before doing the Valkyrie itself ;)

  6. Fast Pack versions of VF-11B, YF-19, YF-21:

2009 May. Full set 4500 yen each. 2000 yen each for fast pack add-on set.

I nearly exploded before I read the last part. Whew... looks like my GNUs are going get some fast packs then--- when the price (and demand) drops-- I actually got my GNUs at 37.50 for all three, so it (the price) wasn't too bad. Retail price of 2000 yen each is probably too much though.

  7. that of course assumes that the SV-51 can even operate safely underwater. Just because the Shin did it once doesn't mean that's how it's supposed to be used. and considering how radically different the SV-51 is from the VF-0 there's no guaranty that the SV-51 has the same capability as the VF-0 in this area.

Given how it is launched from underwater I think that's a pretty safe assumption.

Either way, I think it's pretty silly to have to involve a carrier in the recovery operations-- there's no point having your VFs launch from a submarine/submersible and not have any way of recovering them independently. The vulnerability issue could be mitigated by the active stealth systems on the VF and (probably) on the submarine as well, preventing the casual observer from detecting recovery operations.

  8. Or perhaps the recovery of the fighters is done underwater, to preserve some element of stealth. In the second episode of Mac0, Ivanov was running out of fuel in his fight with Fokker which is why he had to disengage from the fight. I don't think he would've had the fuel to fly that far out! (Especially since he would be engaged by the other VF-0s in the area on the way out to any surface support ship.)

  9. Heres the finished nosw and head with the arm parts still in work. The canopy is only just put in place so i can remove it for the dullcoat once the decals and wash are done. The decals will also be under a coat of future to protect them. I will not transform this kit until all layers are on.

The clear reds on the head and other areas will be added after the dull coat so they will have a gloss. Other parts like the purple sensors will be masked

Wow I really like the purple tint that you did! What proportions of ink and thinner did you use?

  10. Every time I have brought Yamies and Hasegawa kits back from Japan they have gone in checked baggage except one wave kit which came on with me.

Ironically the hand carry got more damage.

As mentioned by Save above pack out the spaces in the box with other goodies and then I usually pack all my clothes around the box to act as a crash area. rolling t-shirts and such into sausage shapes and then packing them down makes for great protection. I travel for work and every time I take a flight case or Pelican case with work gear in it gets damaged. I now only use a Large sports bag, the type you can put a small child in its so big. It has a rigid bottom and wheels, but is still flexible and can be carried on my shoulder.

If you really think it through you will be as safe as the airport ground crew want you to be. Japanese side you'll be fine they are careful it's when you get to the other side its the problem. Heathrow is a nightmare B.A baggage crew actually throw stuff from the planes, I have actually seen them on numerous occasions drop stuff from the hold onto the tarmac. One of the baggage checkers at Narita is a Macross fan. A couple of times now he has checked my bags through the Xray and always takes his time so he can find out which Yammie or Hasegawa kit I have got. He's quite funny and calls me Macross san.

If in doubt post it. When in japan just go to any shopping area after closing and grab a cardboard box there will be loads outside the shops waiting for the trash men to pick them up in the morning. Get some packing tape from the news agents and some old news paper or suitable packing material. pack it up and take it to the post office "yuubinkyoku" you find that most of the staff are helpful and quite used to the foreigners sending stuff home.

O_O You actually know the airport handlers!?! Also, +1 to all the problems with Heathrow. 1st thing I do once I get my baggage is to check that nothing is broken or cracked or anything (I have one of those luggage cases that is basically a 5mm thick plastic shell). So far I've been lucky!
