  1. As a fan since '77, I enjoyed the movie. I just don't see the incessant need to pick these movies apart? There is nothing more ridiculous in this sequel trilogy than Lucas' ham-fisted retcons in the OT(Luke and Leia making out, then, oh they're siblings comes to mind). I go in with zero expectations and just try and enjoy them, as I got badly burned on the Prequels. Everyone is entitled to not like it, but as a movie/story it is no worse than any other SW movie IMO. Dave Filoni said Lucas told him one time to never be afraid to "grow" Star Wars, and I felt that's what's happening here and I welcome it, warts and all.

  2. The more Luca$ whines about critics and fans criticizing him over his poor execution of the Prequels, the more glad I am Disney took over. Episode 1 was the problem, as it was his terrible idea to hinge the movie on a child actor and a terrible CG character. All to what end? Sell more toys and action figures. He's no dummy, just not very talented as a storyteller when he isn't regurgitating Cambell-isms and Kurosawa. I have no idea if TFA is going to be any better than the prequels, but it is made with love not with what Lucas has grown to feel about Star Wars, which is contempt and a general inability to understand what your audience wants.

  3. I was going to make a joke at some point that if Star Wars was like Robotech, then Finn would have to be Lando's son. The rumor out today is that a packaging of a Finn toy lists Lando as Finn's father. It's a big galaxy for everything to come down to the children of the previous generation's hero.

Nah, that was debunked. It was an Amazon sellers description of the item. It was no where on the packaging..one thing I think everybody needs to understand is everyone doesn't HAVE to be related. I know Lucas was big on stuff like that in that it was a "small" universe, but there are different folks in charge. Theres only one character I feel is a lock to be related to one of the others and that is it.
  4. Kylo ain't Luke. I think there's a set pick of Adam Driver being filmed without the helmet. And the shot in the trailer of Kylo walking up to Finn without the helmet should quiet any talk of that.

Yes, they left stuff out of the trailer but throwing everything in would ruin the point of a trailer.

And JJ should realize by now that with a movie with this rabid fandom, there are no secrets. If I can find a rumor-based synopsis of this movie and piece it together with what the trailers have shown...

    Makingstarwars is your website...
  5. I'm a BIG Robotech fan(as a nostalgia product)and had no desire to help HG fund another half assed attempt at keeping this franchise relevant. In my opinion, Robotech was one of those cool things that "just happen". And they have been foolishly chasing this idea that they actually created something on their own, instead of understanding that the visuals and unique method of storytelling that is prevalent in Anime is what got everybody buzzed up about it in the first place. Not surprising this failed, but also expecting some other ridiculous BS to come out of it as HG is getting desperate now it seems.

  6. Lucas made the prequels for HIS kids.

Hell I'd be more then happy with them going back to the Kenner style figures

From 77-84 and making new characters using the same designer.

Use better paint and make the vehicles chunky like the vintage.

Because I'm not paying 20$ per figure.

Yep, cause HIS kids buy all the merch, right? I know what you're saying lol. They have a new wave of cheaper figures($5 each or $10 2packs) that work fine for me and my boys. They only have 5 points of articulation(cue the nerd rage lol), but the more expensive ones just have limbs that pop off at the joints anyways.
  7. Well speaking as someone who enjoyed the Kenner toys as a child, then completely went crazy when the Power of the Force line came out and ultimately quit altogether when the glut of the Prequel toys came out, I am fine with them scaling back the toys. I have kids now that enjoy these "dumbed down" toys just as much as I enjoyed the Kenner toys back in the day, and to me that is all that really matters. I got wrapped up in being disappointed in the Prequels and was too blind to realize what was going on. Lucas wasn't making those movies for me, he was making them for my kids....

  8. To the people complaining about the artwork in this thread, how old are you? You obviously weren't around in 1986 to see what Miller was doing with not only his style, but his layouts that everyone in their brother would be copying(to be fair Miller borrowed heavily from Eisner as well). Your obviously entitled to your opinions, but the idea of a Korean animated adaptation of a seminal work of graphic art would improve upon the art is a slap in the face of the original creator. I am not the biggest Miller fanboy in the world, but in all my years of reading comics I have never heard anyone complain about the art in TDKR...

  9. I hope they get at least this exactly like the comic book. The resolution has a surprising deciding factor ;)

I will say that they do throw us a bit of a curve ball, as at least 2 major characters are gonna bite it, and one comes back to bite some more....Oops! Already said too much...

  10. Honestly...who cares about the Robotech sound effects when the REAL Macross voices, sound effects, and music can all be heard on DVDs from both AnimEigo and ADV?

Well, for someone who bought this as a "nostalgia product", I expected the sounds to be similar to my other set or old videotapes, "re-mastered" or not. Not complaining, just couldn't figure out how they could screw that up? Also, being someone who pre-ordered and bought the original Animeigo Macross release, I didn't expect to hear Robotech sound effects on it,and luckily I didn't . So much discussion about "Robotech" on this MACROSS board, when we are are clearly to good to pay it any mind, right? I can understand why people who actually have a passing care about the nostalgia of Robotech post in this thread, but I can't understand why people just hang out in this thread to constantly bash HG? They really don't care about the fanbase and I can't figure out why everyone would waste the time to bitch about it?

  11. I bought the new DVD' s. I got the whole set from Amazon for something like $35.00. The extras were ok, but not worth buying the whole series again for. Then again, the last set I bought was the "protoculture collection", and I wanted to see how improved the video quality was. It was funny to hear the music loop when they added the "remastered" footage. It also seemed like the sound effects were different? Anyway, it was worth the 30 bucks or so, but not much more.

  12. To be fair, Transformers wasn't anime...just sayin...Also, while I enjoyed BOTP as well as Voltron, Robotech made me realize that most of the cool animated stuff came from Japan. Do I still think that Robotech is this great masterpiece? Of course not, and it is ridiculous for anyone to think that anybody would care about any future Robotech projects without something that resembles Macross. Personally, I feel that HG missed the boat on Astro Plan. Say what you want, but it is EONS better than anything that HG could come up with. I am honestly surprised that they haven't tried to get the rights to it as it would for sure be much easier than re-purposing LLA. I wonder if they are scared of legal repercussions from Big West? I am just a hill-jack from the middle of nowhere, not an "insider" like some of you guys, so maybe someone else will know. I know no one on here wants to give Robotech any credit, but it definitely helped foster along my interest in what I called "japanamation" (literally what the anime section at my Suncoast used to be called) at the time. Along that line, it is any companies job to promote themselves(even at the expense of truth) so why wouldn't HG trumpet the small success that Robotech was. I mean, what else have they accomplished as an "entertainment" company?

  13. Ok, I'll take a swing at this, being an actual fan of Robotech first...I saw Battle of the Planets when I was 5 years old and loved it. Was a HUGE Transformers fan, when my cousin turned me on to Robotech, which I still love to this day. You can be snarky and talk about Nostalgia, but I like it for all the same reason I still love G1 Transformers(and no it isn't cause my life peaked at 10yrs old;)). It is a nice place to visit(Robotech), but unfortunately, some people want to stay well past when the eviction notice has been sent and the building condemned :). I went on to enjoy lots of Anime thanks to Robotech, and while people want to downplay its' importance to anime fandom cause they hate HG(believe, I think they are pathetic and hate they they have choked off any chance at Macross in the US), it caused me to search out other anime, and I have Robotech to thank for that. I just don't understand the point of all of this? NOTHING is ever gonna change the way HG does things and while it is fun to poke at them, and get whatever minuscule fan base they have left riled up, what is the end result? Are they gonna suddenly stop being douchebags and beg and plead to work with Big West and we get the Macross we all want? Guess what, even if they did that, they would still try to screw it up and we would all be back here bitching because they made Nekki Basara Nekki "Hunter" or some stupid crap. They don't care about Robotech, so we should put the same effort in to all of this that they do....back to lurking.
