  1. I´ll have to look into what is coreavc, then. ^^

And you couldn´t use, say, Zero Raws, instead of the CBC broadcast? They don´t have the Japanese writing in them. Not criticising, just asking. :)

No we use the transport stream we capture straight from the Japanese broadcast. But you can go ahead and get the zero-raws and play the subtitles with softsubs.

  2. Was I the only one for whom the .mkv of the episode 24 gg release was partially corrupted in the second half? If others had the same problem, I hope the guys at gg do another release with a better file ( which hopefully doesn´t include those annoying Kanji which CBC put into this episode. ^^ ).

No we can't remove the Japanese hard coded by the station.

To fix that "corruptness" in episode 24 use coreavc and disable ffdshow's h264 renderer.

  3. For those who have issues with mkv. Just don't use any stupid players. I'd highly recommend MPC or zoomplayer. In fact, those who have slow pcs like I have should use coreavc with zoomplayer. It works wonders on my 6 year old machine.

ps: Using MPC/Zoomplayer with proper codecs should solve the "subs not displaying" issue.

  4. What harm did Ai-kun ever do to anybody?

Even though it was never stated explicitly, I think it's obvious that Ranka realizes that she is communicating with the Vajra at some level. She is taking a page from the Nausicaa playbook, and is going on a quest to see if she can use her powers to soothe the raging bugs that Galaxy set on them.

If the government would have known about its existence, they could have asked themselves how a Vajra could get on the the ship and if there were any other Vajra.

  5. I understand what you mean. Someone just posted a type of fan sub of episode 17 on veoh that I've never seen before. Oh gawd, was it awful. I couldn't watch it! Over half the screen was covered in song subtitles and I couldn't tell the difference from the lyrcis over the dialog!

I hope a different group is doing episode 17. I REALLY hope :)

Because the initial resolution is 1280x720 and not 320x240 or whatever it's on veoh. I ask why people watch anime on veoh at the first place but oh well, if they want awful video quality and crippled subtitles then it's okay, I guess.

pick up everything that was initially lost in translation :)

How can you say something is lost in the translation when you don't even understand Japanese? Sounds like you're just trying to throw mud on someone else's hard work.

  6. We don't cross check our translation with close captions because no one in our group would extract close captions from ts streams which we have access to. We have to TC by ear. Shinsen is a very large group, people are generally less prepared to change the way they do things, like doing things in tandem, and communicating and coordinating with members can be difficult. There is no way we can release anything within 6-8 hours from airing. Our average release time is about 4 weeks, assuming that no one is away.

Most japanese CCs are very accurate, apart from occasional minor discrepancy in wording. But you will loose visual and audio context if you just translate from the written script.

Releasing at 6-8 hours is impressive. I wonder how you guys work? What happen if people go on holiday?

Just to correct some misunderstanding, we don't translate from the CC but from the video. We have been fansubbing for several years now hence I'd say we have quite experienced ears that don't need to rely on CCs. They are just there to check on spots you are unsure of (especially with newly introduced terms) to ensure accuracy.

    Our work process is

Encoding & Timing -> TL -> me bitching about how slow everyone else is -> Edit -> QC -> Release

If someone is not available we ask someone else to fill in for him.

  7. Thanks for your work, it is very appreciated. I would like to give you a suggestion, though: why not release a further script adjusted to the timing of MBS raws, for those who downloaded the first raws that come out? This is also an issue on the use of h264 encoding, which is tough on some computers. Those who release MBS raws do so in various formats and resolutions. I ask you this thinking you could have some way to do it in very little time.

    FV

Well that depends to the raw. Some cappers decide to cut out the sponsor credit after the opening some don't. The one RAW that appeared on tokyotosho yesterday tagged as (Anime) was 1/1.5 sec off from our timed script. Just get aegisub and shift the timing for -1/1.5 sec.

6-8 hours is damn fast for a half hour (minus CMs) anime.

Though, why wait for TBS? The MBS broadcast also has the option for subtitles/closed captions.

    Our capper doesn't get MBS.

  8. because in macross the dialog and story is much more intricate and needs time to translate correctly.

be a little more patient and imagine how long fansubs took back in the day.

We (gg) wait for the show to air on TBS for closed captions to ensure that the translation is accurate (which is especially important for a show like Macross which has a lot of technobabble and weird terms), which is on Fridays. We have the raw at around 20:15 (GMT+1) and released it at 01:21. I think taking 6-8 hours isn't really slow.

  9. I initially thought he said "Type-V Battle footage" with Cathy's next line being more along the lines of "It would seem the team here has found an "unidentified" machine". In some regards, that makes more sense considering the flow of the conversation but I don't know if it's true or not. I don't have the script and what kanji were used.

    検疫が 確実に済むまでは当分 無理だね。

    例のV型感染症の心配もあるし。

    Kathy:

    こっちの隊員から一つ 気がかりな報告があって。

    未確認の機体がいたんじゃないかっていう…

Well I think the V stands for Vajra too which would make sense actually. Though I don't know why the crew should be quarantined. I mean they had no physical contact (I assume). Otherwise they have to quarantine everyone who fights against the Vajra.

  10. I use VLC player for playing .AVI files and Media Player Classic for playing .MKV and .MP4 files. After installing the CCCP codec pack, I have no problem playing any of the Frontier fansub eps from Gattai, AiA I-Z, or Shinsen on my laptop.

The only Frontier fansub episode that has given my problems was the episode 8 by G.G. The audio and subtitles were completely out of sync with the video. I just deleted it. More than happy with the three aforementioned fansub groups for Frontier.

Get a proper pc and use a proper player. LOL VLC.
