  1. This brought to mind a very brief sequence in this episode that someone mentioned earlier. When Brera's fancy gun is shot out of his hand and apparently explodes, it ever-so-briefly knocks out the VF-27's virtual reality cockpit. You can see the physical Brera in the cockpit, and you can also notice how pixelated the view is when he focuses on one of the VF-25s, after the system restores itself (demonstrating its digital nature).

Perhaps this is another source of Brera's combat superiority: He has an unobstructed line of sight in a complete sphere around him, something Alto doesn't have with his non-VR system. Every time Alto seems to think he's gotten behind Brera unawares, he's astonished when Brera performs some maneuver that shows he knew exactly where Alto was all along.

The first thing this sequence brought to my mind was How the heck was he able to play that harmonica through that helmet?!

  2. Maybe it's the general tone of this particular series but

when the Zentradi opened fire on each other, I was kind of expecting a blood bath. Now I'm not for gratuitous violence but I thought I would at least see one or two fall to enemy fire. It looked like they had the shooting accuracy of Stormtroopers. If this was SDFM, DYRL or maybe even Zero I'm pretty sure the body count would've been in the double digits when all was said and done. Times sure have changed...

  3. Hello all - loved this episode so much, just had to sign up and comment.

Like most here - got my long overdue fix of mecha pr0n for the week.

Hope the Galaxy survived - the intro of this episode just really pumps up my curiosity as to that ship and the inhabitants therein.

I think Brera was aiding Alto and Luca - just enough so that they can escape on their own. The shooting of the gun may have just been a precaution to make sure Alto doesn't start shooting at Brera. Or maybe it was a little dig at the Frontier crew just to start up a little rivalry. If Brera wanted them dead, I'm sure they would have been dead with that one shot.

I think we may see more of a connection with Brera and Ranka. If memory serves me correctly, at end of the first episode (television broadcast version) during the closing piece you hear Brera's harmonica accompany Ranka's Aimo song at the very end. Read into that what you will...
