  1. Just a humorous observation on swapping the weapons modules between the Defender and the Tomahawk (assuming that will actually work)... you would end up with a Destroid with either two pilots or no pilot.

On the Tomahawk the pilot is in the main torso section, on the Defender the pilot is in the weapons module.

  2. I've stripped one of those out before. I put Zap-a-Gap on the threads of the screw and set it back in the stripped out section to dry. The next day I carefully unscrewed it and reassembled the stand. It's held strong since then (over a year now). Plus, the Zap-a-Gap dries clear so you can't even tell it had been repaired.

  3. I'm thinking that LED was a mod.

Look at the shot of the 3 Tomahawks lined up. One of them has a dark dot in the middle of the searchlight that the other two don't have. I bet that dark dot is either the hole drilled for the LED or the unlit LED.

It would be cool if it came with the light though (anything to help swallow the price tag).

  4. Looking at the pictures on Yamato's website, I don't see any markings on that sample that aren't already painted or tampo'd on the final product.

This is the only image I find in the thread that has any additional markings that aren't already tampo'd on the production version.

Most of those markings seem like the kind of thing that some people would not necessarily want pre-imprinted on their Destroid. So making them stickers would allow for customizability.

    Just my thoughts...

  5. Amazon Japan updated their release date to October 1st (it had been September 25th). Assuming they are accurate (which IS just an assumption) then at least the slip isn't that much.

Looks like Yamato has updated their Tomahawk page to show a release date of October 1st too...

  6. Just got my Goodsmile Co. Tachikoma today. Here are a couple of size comparison shots:

Back row, left to right: GSC gokin, Fewture gokin, Megahouse Perfect Piece, Bandai gokin, Wave W.H.A.M.

Front row, left to right: Hobby Japan Tachikoma File, Megahouse, Organic, Kotobukiya 1/72, Sega mini figure, Movic, keyring

Overall the GSC Tachikoma is pretty nice. It's very heavy (about the same as the Fewture version, but much better articulated). It has a good amount of detail too. About the same number of gimmicks as the Perfect Piece, just different ones. And of course the Major figure is a big bonus. MUCH better than the figure that came with the Perfect Piece (who I forgot to include in the photo). If the price was any cheaper I'd say it was a no-brainer.

    P.S. Sorry my camera sux.

  7. Got some time to mess with the bases again today and came up with a different configuration that seems to work okay with 1/48. I haven't tried mixing in any of the 1/48 accessory vehicles yet... they might end up drawing attention to the actual scale difference between the sets and the figure.

  8. My display space is rather limited, so I only get to have about a fifth of my collection out a time- meaning the base diorama pieces are really just to mess with rather than something I can leave out. Plus, most of the pieces I leave out on display aren't really the right scale for the base. If I had the time to paint them up maybe I'd find a way to work them in. I guess I was starting this thread to see what anyone else is doing with them... for inspiration.

Here are a couple more pictures I took using Xabungle SoCs. I included most of the accessories that come with the base pieces, although there are plenty of the Xabungle accessories in there too. (If it's painted then it isn't part of the Mechanical Chain Base sets).

  9. totoro! Awesome use of the mechanical chain bases! I did not know that it was possible to do it like that with the levels. I have have 4 sets waiting for HLJ to send me payment request. I was thinking about getting more. Looks like you have a whole lot of them there. Thanks for sharing the pics. I cant wait to get mine.

FYI- the 007, 008, 009 and 010 sets are what let you set up the levels

I've been grabbing two of each whenever they are released (makes it seem like a small purchase that way)... so I guess I have 16 of them now since I haven't gotten 009 and 010 yet (not such a small purchase after all- YIKES!)

  10. I've been picking these up as they've been released but I haven't really tried making anything big out of them until now. The scale really seems targeted at 1/72, but it wouldn't be too hard to make them work for some 1/100 stuff.

I haven't painted them at all (yet). This is the result of 2 of each of them up through 008, although there are few pieces still unused and a bunch of accessories that aren't in the shot.

Is anyone else using these? Any creative combinations?

  11. Wasn't there mention in the earlier SV-51 thread that the CF was only supposed to have one hip-mounted machine gun? The pictures shown here are exactly the same as the Ivanov but in a different color.
