  1. I was curious if you had been able to grab this image any better or if you had found any other sketches of this iteration of the VF-4? I am a huge fan of the ELS game and really like the 2036 and ELS designs. Those games were so full of great design work and its unfortunate its not more "out there".

    In 2036 the Daedalus 2 actually does a "Daedalus" attack against the Octy flagship :-P Whats cool is in the sequal of sorts, Eternal Love Song" which takes place in 2037, one of the unuits you get control of is the Prometheus 2, same ship type. Its kinda cool on some of the later levels to go into combat surrounded by Valkyries, Space Destroyers, and you with your ship and fighters (And yes the VF-4 Strike Siren kicks total ass).

  3. I really enjoyed Macross F, probably the best right after the tv show. I had a bunch of questions and hadnt seen them answered anywhere. i plowed thru the discussion threads but there is so much i may have missed, feel free to direct me to a faq or similar if needed. Anywho:

    1. What is Grace O'Connor? Some sort of robot i got, but who were all the other people that seemingly lived inside her?

    2. It seems as if shes bound and determined to destroy the Vajra all the way up till the last ep, then she wants to control them and either wipe out humanity or embed us with the crystals and control us, i'm not sure.

    3. Whats goin on with Macross Galaxy? It seems as if the entire Macross Galaxy fleet was on board with Grace and her bid to control the Vajra. Is that true? I mean you see all the dulfim ships and others fighting against our heroes in ep 25 and it seems pretty conveniant the whole fleet would go along with that.

    4. Where is the main "island" for Macross Galaxy and all the surrounding "islands"?

    5. In all seriousness, whats up with Alto? He has these two women who throw themselves at him and he almost seems completely detached. I get the feeling its playing to the vastly male audience to identify with a male protagonist who has woman throwing themselves at him, but, again in all seriousness, Alto seems like hes gay, at least in terms of the way he seems so totally uninterested in Sharyl and Ranka.

    6. How did Grace fly in and then insert herself into the queens head so effortlessly? Where did that come from? was there some backstory about how she had figured out how to "jack in" to a vajra? It seemed as if they didnt even have the location of the homeworld until ep 24 and then she just flies thru all the planetary guards and right up to the queen then into their queen then into a little bubble and plugs in? in every other episode the vajra attack on sight.

    7. The feeling i get is that the macross Galaxy fleet started attacking the Vajra then lead the vajra to Frontier to keep on attacking, is that true?

    8. the Zentraedi naval detachment seemed to have found a earth type planet, why did Frontier not want that planet? What were they looking for instead of that type of world?

    9. What was that rocky ring like structure surrounding the vajra homeworld?

    10. So grace and Leon were in league, to do what? Kill the Vajra?

    11. How does that Guy Bilrer figure into their plot? was he in on it all or some of it?

    12. Berera worked against the macross Galaxy team for a umber of episodes, why wasnt he arrested or detained or whatever? Its not like he kept a low profile. or did they just never figure out he was the red valk guy? They quarantined the "Dulfim" crews when they rescued them early on so...

    13. and so was the "rescue" of the ships from the Galaxy fleet in episode 7 or so just a ruse?

    Maybe its the translations i saw didnt convey this stuff properly, i saw the GG versions. Again loved the show just couldn't connect some dots.

  4. I have just finished watching Macross 2 (its been awhile and I find the series entertaining, in case anyone is wondering) and noticed that the weapon system used by Major Nexx inside the Marduk battleship/warship is not a missile barrage/volley (a la Palladium Books Macross 2 RPG). 

    Is it a Reactive Weapon?  (the "This is Animation Macross 2" book lists the Metal Siren as having Reactive weaponry but, I though it was the usual four to six reactive missiles like the VF-1.)

    Is it a gravity weapon? (I believe this theory was discussed on a Relic forum thread)

    Is it a barrier shield overload weapon, like that of the original SDF-1?

    Does anyone know?

  5. Where did you get your information for the VF-XX?

    Thats sort of a mismash of stuff I read over a period of time. An old copy of either Protoculture Addicts or Mecha Press had done a series of articles on the Macross II mecha. IIRC, the VF-XX was either a set of schematics from a captured Zentran Factory or it was built using new technology gleaned from this factory. I think I remember this being connected with the Neld Space Fleet Crisis.

    It was mecha press. I've long lost the magazine but they had a huge thing on it, which immediately came to mind when I read your post.

    I have the mecha press and i think it is a translation of materials in Bclub 79, and als the Entertainment bible 51. Macross 2036 has the VF-1R series most prominalty. Macross ELS which takes place in the year 2037 has all the characters plus a few more from 2036. It also has a bunch of new mecha. Valkyrie wise it has the VF-4 Siren, The Super Siren and Strike Siren. About as official as any other game mecha I suppose, but very cool none the less.

  6. Seriously. What's your problem with any form of protection? What would you like to do with these scans if he didn't protect them? I can look at them just fine, and put a bookmark on them so I always know where to look. Do you want to put them on your own website? Do you want to make RPG stats for them or something? Maybe you want to turn them into a Robotech creation? Please, tell us why Nanashi should remove any sort of protection.

  7. The only two FAEs I have ever heard of either in the Press or in reading about are the 10,000 lb "daisy cutter", and the larger (20,000 lb ?) MOAB. One is dropped by a c-130 and the other by an aircraft with an equally large bomb bay and carrying capacity.

    I am curious if this ordinance entry might be better described as a small or light bomb as it seems to simply be carried by a loaded fighter. If say a anti-unification version of a c-130 were to drop a 10,000lb version of this bomb, that would be large, but this version seems to be small, like a 1,000 or 2,000 lb version.

    Here is my latest update:

    Example 10

    When you scroll over the ground, the pane at the bottom tells you your defensive modifier and tells you the ground type. When you scroll over a pilot their info and Valkyrie type show up.

    While over a Valkyrie, press 1, 2, or 3 and it will transform into the 3 different modes. Press b while over the Valk and then move the cursor to another square and press b again and it will move to the new location. Press c and the icopn changes to attack, but does nothing else. Regults dont do much yet.

    Next up is trying to get rid of the XML and just needing the one txt file with all the variables (tougher than it sounds). I also wanna get the attack icon to do something. also gotta streamline the Zentradi and get them up to spec with the UN Spacy tiles in terms of moving and whatnot.

    Roycommi, could you give me a few pointers on how to do that .gif with transparent background thing? I'm not doing a good job finding out for myself...

    Hmm, I use adobe photoshop, and when you edit the gif, you can create a transparent background. then you save it like any other gif.

    I would like to publicly thank The White Drew Carey for his art thus far, and Yoshi for his translations, which you see as the land type, and more in the coming weeks. Their help is invaluable in making this a game that will be fun to play :-)

    How come I didn't get those character pictures yet?  :(

    Attatched are the pics.

    I was thinking about our discussion regarding the helmetted characters. We can either use the face-on view like in the original, or we could use some more angled views like in the Macross: Remember Me and Skull Leader games (which I think would look better, but would also be veering away from the original ELS.

    I would like to stick to the original as much as possible in terms of the look and whatnot. My ultimate aim is to make it so people can create their own missions and whatnot, extra art would definalty be a plus at that point. If you want I will include it in the game and create methods for using it.

    When you scroll over the characters, their data is transmitted to the menu bar. I havent filled in all the data obviously, but thats a simple matter.

    If you press B or C while over a character the cursor will change to the move or attack cursor (You have NO idea how long it took to get that to work :blink: ).

    I am gonna try and see if I cant figure out how to move the characters now.

    Te white drew carey has provided a set of tiles that I will incorporate into the next ecxample. They look really nice and have blinking lights on the towers and stuff. IF anyone else would like to help out, I can always use the assistance :)

    looks very good. anyway, are u going to do a dumb computer or a dificult one? are you able to make it support online matchs? would be interesting to play against humans.

    I plan on doing a moderate difficulty. The game didnt give you a choice, but it wasnt terribly difficult. If you took your standard VF-1 into a cloud of female power armor, expect to get your butt handed to you. If you let the cannon fodder VF-1a's go first, :-> , then you can take em out. I dont think head on play will be hard once I have figured out how to do the AI.

    The problem of the tiles ending up outside of the border doesn't happen anymore, but the Regults still do it.

    DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE REGULTS, THERE ARE NO REGULTS OVER THERE, MOVE ALONE PEOPLE.... :unsure:

    Also, what resolution are you running at?

    The Valk is 30x46 pixels and the character is 38x46. I then double that in flash. I will retry it if it looks bad.

    First, and foremost, I see this as a way to bring a hard-to-find Macross game to the fans (one which I, personally, have never played) simply to encourage the fandom.

    Thats my plan as well. I have played this game and REALLY like it.

    Once again, I thank you greatly for this project and, more importantly, allowing me to be a part of it. I'm having fun doing something I enjoy.

    Let's hope that Roycommi's Macross ELS project is able to become all that it can be.

    Its scrolling is fixed. The tiles are down now I have to add mouse movement. I also have to add in the in game pop-up dialog which I have translated as well. The frame has the updated artwork TWDC supplied.
