If they do go back to Hikaru and company they should ONLY be supporting characters and no more love triangle or something like that.
Their story is finished but to have a show set onboard the Megaroad 01 featuring a new set of characters with Hikaru and company in the background would be okay in my opinion.
Hikaru, Misa and Minmey were completely developed as characters when the show ended and it finished well with no loose ends. Max and Miriya didn't get that much attention as a couple but it got further explored in Macross 7. Even Roy Focker got more attention in Macross Zero so all the main characters got what they deserved. I feel that exploring them any further then that may end up hurting them in the end.
I agree. But I would love to see a new series with a new gen finding the Megaroad-01 and finding out what actually happened. The whole just disappearing doesn’t leave us with any closure at all. Preferably without guitar playing giant robots and Hikaru and Misa not given the Dr Shaw treatment from the last Alien movie. Minmei... eh. She probably died from trying to pet something that looked cute and ate her. And I’m ok with that.
Hope for the die hard original Macross fan...
