  1. So I started working on the 31 kit and yeah, if you built any of the Frontier kits from Bandai, then this is going to be the same level of ease or headache, depending on how much effort you're willing to put into it.

I was intending to just slap it together straight out of the box with minimal effort, but the thought of stickered head sensors and navigational lights and an untinted canopy was too much for me. :o

What did you use to tint the canopy? Just got mines today. Probably gonna start building tomorrow.

  2. Don't know if they've done anything about it on the new decal sheets, but the ones for the VF-25s sucked royally, and would chip off in large chunks at the slightest provocation. I'd suggest at least trying the stickers - use the "dip them in water" trick that was posted about earlier to make them go on smoother, and then rub them down with a Q-tip to make them fit. The stickers at least won't flake off the moment you transform the kit...

    Dip them in water trick??

  3. Disclaimer: First Bandai Macross kit, missed out on the Frontier releases and just never bothered to track down the one that I wanted (VF-25G). I have put together dozens upon dozens of Gunpla and quite a few Zoids (picked up a couple of the Koto HMM kits along with this one)

Did you apply anything to keep the stickers in place? I havent built a model with so much stickers especially with ones that can be in contact frequently. Did you apply any top coat or something to keep them in place afterwards?

  4. Finished mine this afternoon. Straight build + stickers.

Fighter mode locks together all over, nothing floppy anywhere.

Gerwalk and Battroid modes are decently possible for a model kit, and lock together pretty well too.

Other than being really flimsy, the stickers fit really well, no issues lining up the panel lines.

Battroid does have a rotating waists joint, and there is a gerwalk swivel.

Only problem I had was that I stressed the right side landing gear assembly, and now it tends to fall off.

Overall, I'm pleased with the kit and the result. I already have Kieth's SV-262 on preorder, and I'll probably go for Mirage's too when it releases.

You sir have just convinced me to order this

  5. I'm using the stickers. The blue horizontal stripe below the cockpit in my photo is the only sticker I've applied so far. Quality seems fine to me, it seems to adhere well enough.

I'm just snapping this kit together as quickly as I can and using a Gundam marker for the panel lines.

I'm not skilled or patient enough to use paint or decals.

ohh not bad looking for a sticker. I may decide to pick this up.

Never worked on a Macross kit but have done a fair share of Gundam models. Keep hearing such bad things about the sticker/decals that I was thinking of not getting it, but so far seeing it fully done makes it really hard to say no.

  6. Connector pieces? Are you talking about the pegs for the snap-together mechanic? If so (haven't seen much of the video yet), then usually that's done to simplify the disassembly process (the pieces hold together less firmly) for those who prefer to cement/paint/mod/otherwise build the kits "traditionally." Snap-build pegs and sockets are great for, well, snap-building, but they also mean lots of extra plastic that tends to get in the way of a modeler.

Otherwise maybe the person's just not paying attention due to speed concerns.

Ah I see, thanks for the explanation
