  1. Sweet Merciful Crap!  I just got my 1S Roy from chibitokyo.  I had mentioned in my order that I was hoping for a mint box.  So I don't know if they take this much care with all orders. . . but WOW!

This thing arrived in a huge outter box that was very sturdy.  Not a ding on it!  Then I opened the box to find coarse packing paper.  At first, I thought "Hmmm, that could really mar some of the glossiness of the black parts of the box."  After the first layer, there was another layer. . . very thick protective packaging. . . and then. . . believe it or not, they had actually taken the time to shrink-wrap the valk box itself!

Now, I don't know how familiar y'all are with shrink-wrapping (I used to shrink wrap video game boxes when I worked at Software Etc. in High school about 15 years ago!).  But it doesn't hurt anything.  You just put it in a loose shrink-wrap material bag. . . and then use a hair-dryer type blower to heat the plastic, and it shrinks down and clings to the item.

That's what they did.  So I now have a 100% mint box that arrived in pristine condition.  And I'm going to leave it shrink-wrapped, since this is my "backup" 1S Roy.

I know it sounds like I'm praising these guys too much. . . but this is the best packaging job I've ever seen on the part of a toy seller.  No offense to VE or TMP!  :)

Anyways, it's too bad that they had to raise their price by $20 in the last few days, otherwise, I'd give them 10/10 stars.  Outstanding!

    H

P.S.  They packaged and shipped before I emailed them about spreading the word on MW and asking them if they had sold a lot lately.

Yeah, I received my two VF-1S's yesterday as well. The packaging was indeed impressive. I plan on opening both up (I've already done so with 1 of them), though. Like you, they earn a high score with me! B))

  2. Okay guys. After over an hour of googling, I finally managed to find a place that has the VF-1S Roy in stock, for a reasonable price. It is $159 plus $8.98 ground shipping. So it's $168.93 out the door. I don't know if they charge tax. But I don't think so. So, those of us in states that charge tax will be making some of the mark-up back right there.

Only one caveat though. These are First Edition Roys. I emailed the seller and confirmed this. So, if you can live with a slightly crooked skull symbol on the tail and/or a nose cone that falls off a bit more easily while transforming, go for it.

I've got one on the way. I feel like an idiot because I just sold a 1st Edition one a few months back. And failed to get my second 2nd edition before they all disappeared.

Yes, $159 is a bit more than the $139 that valks often sell for here in the states. But. . . well, they have them. And it sure beats $250 from TISINC99.COM.

    Here's the link:

    Hurin,

Thanks for the heads-up on this site. I just placed an order for a pair of Roys.

    :o

Jesus, after being out of the Macross game for a year, I am jumping into the deep end head first! Since Friday I have ordered up 2 1/48 Maxes and now this order! It's already time to give my wallet a break....

  3. My macross hobby took a bit of a break over the last year due to RL concerns (marriage, house, etc.) but I am looking to get back into things.

I love the 1/48s and my favorite is Roy's VF-1S (like probably 90% of the fandom :p ), but have observed that is is in short supply right now - with no definitive answer as to if/when it will be re-released.

That leaves me with my second favorite valk: Max's VF-1J. This thing looks pretty nifty being that it includes the fast packs as well as the tv hands. I would imagine that it is also using the later version of the 1/48 (the cockpit can stay in the "up" position, etc.) for the body. Are there any known defects with this model, and what are people's opinions on it in general in relation to the other 1/48s (basically more of the same, inferior, superior, etc.)?

I have owned 1/48s prior to this year, but had to part with them for financial reasons, so I do have a pretty good working knowledge of the DYRL versions (including BOTH Roy versions).
