1. I haven't posted or frequented this board in years (?), however I was once a hardcore Macross nut...

Besides having previously collected anything Macross like a madman in the past, I also did some japanese arcade machine, pachinko and pachislot collecting. Well my main hookup that sells me pachinko/pachislot machines just contacted me about a new Macross pachinko machine coming soon... and I must say it's simply amazing! Even Shoji Kawamori showed up for the debut.

    Here's the site:

    Macross Pachinko Machine

The animations and all the bells n whistles look simply awesome. It looks like the control goes beyond the usual dial/knob and using a flight stick! She's gonna get back to me on the price new... but most likely I'll wait til the price drops to the usual second hand market prices... which is usually around 300-700ish USD depending on rarity and condition.

  2. HA!

I only own 3 Yamato Valks, all 1/60's. I look longingly at 1/48 pics...but I really just put my money towards my other hobby, videogame collecting.

But....I really would like one of those VF-0's......and a 1/48 Angel Bird. Might have to do something about that.

I TOTALLY HEAR YA. Many of us here have interests in multiple "hobbies". With the prices these days, it's a real tight wire act trying to juggle them.

  3. Been out of the macross loop for the most part, besides the usual 1/48 releases..

So sorry to bump an old thread... did a quick search about this figure and this is where the last info seemed to point.

Did Yamato completely cancel this destroid monster project?

  4. 1) House (this thing cost me a fortune -- I HATE ARIZONA.)

Try living in the SF Bay Area. It takes about a million dollars here to get a house that is in a nice location and can easily support a family of four. Bare minimum is about $600k. In a recent study to determine the worst places in the country to live by wage vs cost of living California had SEVEN of the top ten worst places to live. It's pretty pricey out here. Arizona has really boomed though, I remember considering buying a house out there seven years ago... i so should have done it.

EDIT - deleted duplicate "cost of living" and replaced with "wage" so it actuall makes some sense :D

    AMEN.

Just bought my first home in San Diego last year. Kinda weird that a first home runs over half a mil AT LEAST! Therefore most of the funds go to:

    1) Bills (mostly mortgage)

    2) Little performance parts for the beemer

    3) Arcade cabs/boards

    4) Yahoo Japan for vintage home console videogame stuff

    5) Going out, misc electronics, dvds/cds, paintball :)

Ooooohhhh... didn't know the Ms. Pac/Galaga board came in a cocktail... Namco really pulled all the stops out for that one.

Personally speaking, when/if I get me a cab, it's gonna be the classic plywood box.

No slur on the molded japanese cabs, but it just doesn't feel right sitting down at an arcade machine to me.

    311327

Those reproduction cocktail cabs are quite nice. Some of our local movie theaters have them. If I ever get a big enough place I'd like to have 2 home arcade setups: 1 w/ 80s vintage US cabs and 1 japanese cab area. LOL

When I first started collecting cabs, all I had were US cabs. Had a row of 7 dynamo made cabs llined up on one side of the garage and some pre-jamma sega/data east/taito cabs on the other side. However, once the jap cab bug bit I sold off a few and had friends store the others. Right now only got 2 us cabs at my pad and the rest at some of my friend's homes. One day, one day....

  6. Oooooh, Radiant Silvergun. Damn, that was probably more reasonably priced than the Saturn port. Very cool collection. How do you import your cabinets?

    311225

You got that right. The saturn version seems to be going for about 130-160 right now (even in japan), whereas the arcade cart (no motherboard) is only about 80-120.

99% of my japanese cabs came from Arcade Infinity over in the Diamond Bar area in LA. So if you're interested in some jap cabs, be sure to check them out. ;)

  7. just had to show it off, didn't you?  :):p

    Someone's gotta do it. :D

    Well then here's my setup:

    dark15.sized.jpg

Got the SDF macross pcb in a box somewhere... after about 20 minutes it gets old, so I popped in Raiden Fighters instead. More arcade pics in the sig around page 2/3.

  8. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie..._Pr4_PcN__Shops

Just something interesting I happened to see and I figured folks here might want to take a look at it.

Hell, some of yall might even want to buy it. (I know I won't stand in anyone's way. I wouldn't pay more than 30 for it, but I am a cheap collector.)

Yes I would say that's overpriced. It's not too rare (even if it's boxed) and can be had for a LOT less. Saw a 3 boxed and 2 loose last week.

  9. here's my list

    Best Macross Games

#1 - Macross DYRL Arcade Game (Arcade)

    #2 - Macross DYRL (Saturn)

    #3 - Macross (PS2)

    Honorable Mentions

    Macross 2036 (PCE)

    Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie (SFAM)

    Worst Macross Games

#1 Macross Digital Mission VFX (PSX)

#2 Macross Plus Game Edition (PSX)

    #3 Macross VFX2 (PSX)

I have the Macross DYRL Arcade game PCB, after about 15 minutes of gameplay the novelty wears off. Stuck Raiden Fighters Jet 2 in the cab instead... The Saturn DYRL game is only good for the cut screens. The actual game itself is very weak.

As far as a total package of a game my picks are:

    1. SFC Scrambled Valkyrie (good for a game in it's own right, macross or not)

    2. PS2 Macross

    3. PCE-CD Macross 2036

    4. (maybe) PC Macross VO

  10. I like my "play" stuff to be built like tank... so for a toy that you can actually "play" with w/o being the slightest bit gentle I'd have to say...

    1) Any bandai chunky monkey

    2) Love sentai so... hurricanger toys/combiners

    3) tokyo marui remote control godzilla

Don't get me wrong I love yammies and all that stuff... but to me those are just for posing and display more than anything else.

  11. Actually I don't know. But I don't think so. I haven't paid taxes since I have been here. And I have asked that very same question to others who have been here longer than me, and they havent paid taxes either. I tried looking it up once and there is not any information at all.

    Rob

    Hey Rob,

Thanks for your honesty. I work for the IRS and I'll be seeing you REAL SOON... although I may not be able to make the appointment if I all of the sudden become occupied with some new goodies from japan.....

    SIKE! :D

  12. I've got the Tokyo Marui Godzilla (Biollante version) and it's quite fun to knock down stuff and have "fights" with other remote control godzilla toys. This particular one is nice because it has several independent channels so you can do multiple actions at the same time (ie, sway tail, move forward, roar in one controlled motion).

  13. Macs are fine for the little bubble of a world they operate in. However, when you want more control, flexibility/options.. the more responsibility. Look at PC users vs UNIX based systems BACK IN THE DAY. People used to whine about how windows constrains you, but w/ UNIX you have more power to tune... however back in the day it look a heck of a lot more tinkering to get stuff running in 'NIX.

In short, not everyone fits a Mac, not everyone fits a PC. It depends on what your needs are. Stop this age old holy war.

  14. Maybe they're growing up and abandoning this childish thing of collecting toys! Maybe they're actually investing they're money in something so foolish as stocks, bonds, and a house.

collecting toys is a good investment monetary wise. But just like stocks, you have to find the right items to collect. My neighbor has a collections of dolls, and other stuff, but mostly dolls are the value. Anyway, the last I heard, was that her collcetion was valued at $300,000 plus. And over the years, she spent less than 20k to accumalate that stuff. Not a bad invesment. Actually, believe it or not, the house she bought went down to half of the value after she bought it. But with the real estate market as it is now, her how has now over doubled in value.

Here in southern california real estate is a good investment. Forget the toys. It's chump change.

  15. Who is buying DOOM 3? It is released early.  :)

Maybe I will, depends on the review and the demo...

(or let just say who still have the money to buy PC games...  )

I will probably buy the game when it drops to like $30

As with most id games, you are buying the game engine and not much "game." :D

HL is a game built off of Quake2 and that is a well made game compared to Q2's mindless shooting, not bad but not as polished.

Same went for Q3A and it was pretty repetitive. I am a Quake fan still but HL is a great game and HL2 wil showoff the great level designs.

Yeah Q2 single player was pretty blah. Good thing people out there made mods for it.

For me the beauty of Q2 was in the online cooperative teamplay like in Q2 CTF. I remember wasting many hours playing organized matches where every person on the team had very specific roles (defense, rover, offense, acquire upgrades, etc). It was beautiful when all the teamwork and communication fell into place, less organized teams (even with great individually skilled players) often were crushed.
