  1. Hey all! I just unpacked my 1/48 VF-1S from storage, and am now putting the super parts on the back. I must be doing something wrong, because the backpack is HEAVY! So heavy, in fact, that it tilts backward.

I know that the robot has this small clip that keeps the back part from falling. That doesn't seem to be helping. The super parts also came with an extra white part, to be inserted behind the battroid's head. Is this the part that will help keep the backpack straight?

I must be forgetting something, because the toy displayed fine before I put him in storage. But for the life of me, I can't figure it out. Can anyone help?

  2. It's an alright toy. Nothing to write home about, but for its price you can't really go in expecting much. Floppy joints and inaccurate fitting plagues mine ... oh well, best to just leave it in battroid mode.

  3. And tuck in that airbrake

    Aye aye!

PS: What is this step? Figure I'll just ask it here instead of making a new post. Am I to detach that piece? I can push the grey piece in a bit, but that's about it. Am I missing something here? *scratches head*

  4. Finally, the 1/48 VF-1S has arrived! I'm in awe of the execution: it's very well done, and the proportions are excellent to say the least. Thank you all for making my first Macross acquisition a choice one!

I am now engulfed in an internal debate about which armour parts to put on. Which one, to you, looks the more aesthestically pleasing? Symmetrical-looking super engine or an asymmetrical-looking strike cannon?

  5. It appears the voice is loud and clear. Thanks all, for suggesting reasons why or why not! Lynx7725 made an extremely important point about whether or not to continue the line, which really seals the deal for me. For all intents and purposes, this will be my first and last valkyrie (unless something new and super cool comes along), and I do, in fact, have the shelf space for one.

PS: 4 people like the 1/60! Aha!

PPS: Going 1/48 on this one. Now to take a deep breath and to submit the order. Thanks everyone!

  6. Recently, you've seen a deluge of posts from me looking for reviews, pictures, and links to the whole Macross package. I've considered swapping heads, trading armour, Robotech (I know, god forbid), the Bandai pieces ...

... and it now all comes down to this.

Between the 1/60 Strike VF-1S Roy and the 1/48 Strike VF-1S Hikaru, I am torn between these two. On the one hand, the 1/60 version has diecast, and the price is an affordable one at $85 US. On the other hand, the 1/48 version looks rather imposing (from the other thread, thanks for those pictures, folks!), but the price after getting the fast pack is a staggering $193 US, when all is said and done.

    Dilemma.

For me, I must admit, the extras on the 1/48 are a welcome touch, but things like the movable flaps on the wings, perfect transformation, and the hidden radar will be lost and forgotten when displayed in robot mode. I do, however, extremely like the red stripe, and the hands being a part of the main body (instead of being attached) are great.

The 1/60 has a lot going for it too, for a toy of a good, decent size that is neither too big or too small. Head also doesn't have that gap between the mouth so many people say detract from an otherwise perfect head, and at $85, I could easily get another 1/60 to start a decent collection.

This will be my FIRST valkyrie. I only have the funds to pursue one, and be it the 1/60 Strike VF-1S or the 1/48 version, they will spend their entire life as a battroid inside my shelf after being freed from their box. Which one, in your opinion, is the better choice? Why or why not?

PS: How does the diecast content compare between the two? I like my toys to have a substantial "weighty" feel for their size. Any thoughts?

  7. Looking over most of the Macross toys released to date, I find myself liking a few, hating some others, and pondering over the rest. Has anyone posted online reviews of the figures? Who has the best ones and where?

  8. Thank you, all! And Solscud007, those must be the Choro-Qs Lisa keeps telling me about! :D

My last question, and I promise it will be in this seemingly endless line of questioning, is how tall are the 1/48ths with the Super armour attached? From feet to the Super booster pack (ignore the Strike gun for now), how tall does this figure come to?

    *figures out shelf space* B))

  9. That's alright. Strike or super armour makes no difference to me (I know, blasphemy!), but as long as the battroid's got something behind its back, I'm satisfied.

So, to sum up, if I were to get the Bandai 1/55 Super VF-1S Roy and the 1/55 VF-1A Hikaru, I can swap the head and armour from the VF-1S onto the VF-1A and create, with ease, a Super VF-1S Hikaru? Like the 1/48th version by Yamato?

Can anyone confirm? This will set me back some $200 CAD, I want to know it's definitely (and easily) doable before I pursue it. Just some screwdriver work, right?

  10. My idea of the perfect valkyrie is Yamato's 1/48th VF-1S Hikaru Ichijo. Red stripes with a Jetfire-like head that I really can dig. I'd want one in the 1/60th scale, but obviously none exists, and I now come to you all with this question:

Are the Yamato 1/60 valkyrie heads swap-able? Moreover, is the Strike armour from the 1/60th Strike VF-1S Roy Focker compatible with other valkyries from the line?

I'm thinking of getting the 1/60 VF-1S Strike Roy and the 1/60 VF-1A Hikaru. Swap the heads, and take Roy's strike armour and putting it on Hikaru's, making it a bonified VF-1S Hikaru, in the 1/60th scale.

Before diving into this otherwise expensive venture, I wanted to ask: is this easily doable? Is this a simple task of a screwdriver or does it involve some surgery?

  11. I'm looking all over the net for online sites that feature galleries of the toys released, out of box. To date, I've only found a handful of commercial sites with the items for sale, and have only found two galleries of sorts: the one here at MW, and the Valkyrie Factory.

I was wondering, do you guys have any handy links to websites that are similarly encyclopedic when it comes to Macross releases?

  12. Hey all. This is my first posting here at Macross World. I'm a longtime Transformer fan that became a recent (read: 5 days ago) convert, thanks to a visiting friend from California who was getting Macross merchandise for her BF. Here's hoping I don't plunge right in ...

I do have a question about the the VF-11B, by Yamato. I see there are two versions. One is packaged in robot mode, the other in plane mode. What's the difference? Are they different scales? Which one is better?
