Sigh. I just got around to watching the M∆ preview. Man I don't know how I feel about this story. Disappointed maybe? Shrug.

Walkure feels like a Magicgirl Gatchman team. The mech all seem tacked onto the story, like they're only there cuz its under the 'Macross' name banner. They don't seem necessary to the plot. Hopefully additional episodes will prove this wrong to me.

...Can't be the only person that feels this way can I?

Seems like everyone's holding there collective breath for a LowVis version....

Personally I'm holding mine for Arcadia to release a 'DIY model kit' of this like they Yamato did with the VF-1.

Actually this turned out better then I thought it would...Don't like the gaping seam on the 'thighs' though. I would think that that could have been done better.

...Not a deal breaker for me getting one though (or at least try'n).

I recently finished up on Yamato 1:3000 scale SDF-1 'boxs-o-parts' model kit and after putting it together, lightly detailing it with paint and some decals i find that I like it the way it is and have no interest in putting on the resin parts or the photo etched embellishments. So i'm sell'n em along with the rest of the decals and the glowy stickers.

Here's what you get:

1-Full set of Resin 'damaged' parts in unopened bag.

1-Unused sheet of Photo Etched embellishments.

1-Leftover sheet of Glowy Stickers (see picture for how much is left, which is definitely enough to go crazy with)

1-Leftover sheet of water slide Decals (again, see picture for how much is left, it's mostly use up but does include A.R.M.D flight deck numbers)

Honestly, the scale of the valkyries means next to nothing since there's no way in hell the SDF1 is close to 1/2000 scale. EXO and I calculated based on the size of Macross city and the stadium that the Macross would really be more like 5 MILES long.

It's funny that the PE valkyrie that comes with the kit is bigger than the whole stadium...

In other news, my build is going pretty good. The instructions are ok but after a few pages I'm noticing some pretty decent sized errors like them telling you to use one type of spring in one step that can't possibly fit in the area you're assembling. They also pretty routinely leave parts off the various diagrams so you'll build it and be looking at it and thinking "something just isn't right" then sure enough, go digging through the sprues and find a part they left off ...

Agree with your comment on the directions. They look great at first glance but once you get into it there are quite a few errors partiulary in the order in of how things are put together. There's a a number of places where it has you assemble something when you it would have better to hold off till later.

Regarding paint...(for those of us who have no intention of buy'n into Yamato's exclusives)

I was able to get a pretty close match to the duranodic bronze color by darkening up 'MODEL MASTER ACRYL-4676 Jet Exhaust' with just a bit of 'MODEL MASTER ACRYL-4767 Aircraft Interior Black'.

That sucks ass!

What sucks worse is that it's probably easier for you to buy the screws yourself online than try and get them from Yamato.

True! I considered contacting Yamato (USA) to get them to cough up what was missing but figured it would be easier and faster to just go buy them my self.

I'm lucky enough to have a store close buy that specializes in model trains, RC cars and aircraft so picking up the odd dinky pice of hardware is not a problem. Not the first time i've opened a kit of some kind only to find i've been shorted a screw or two...or drop one only to have it vanish into thin air (which is usually what happens.

I received my kit about a week ago, but opened it up for inventory today. Took the blog advice from Yamato's page and started in on hardware inventory first. Looks like I'm short a dozen and a half fasteners according to the manifest in the manual (missing 7pc M2x6 fillister, 4pc M1.8x6 fillister, 1pc M2x5 flathead, 2pc M2x4 flathead). I'm also overstocked on the M2x4 and M2x5 fillister screws by about half a dozen each.

I'm an engineer by trade and had checked each fastener with a vernier caliper while sorting, so I'm relatively sure of my piece count being accurate. I checked and double-checked the parts bags for the missing screws to no avail. I'd urge you guys getting your kits ready to follow the blog advice and check your fasteners before going any further.

Grrr.

I got the same issue after I sorted my screws. Found I was shorted a few here and ended up with more there (got all the flat heads though). I sorted my with calipers so know that I did a pretty accuret job of breaking them out.

I've decided that i'd worry about later and see how things go along. Hope'n it all works out in the end...then grip about it later if doesn't

So, from the pics, it looks like this thing is molded in color except the damage parts. Can anyone who has this kit confirm that? If so, then it appears one could essentially add some panel lining and have it look pretty good. I'm not adverse to building my kit and saving $100 bucks or so, but I don't think I'm interested in a full-on paintup.

Yep molded in color except for the damaged parts which are in in 'resin jaundice yellow'...It's the 1/3000 toy re-released as a big box-o-parts.

Can a model owner post a full scan of the construction manual? It can be very useful for the toy owner who may want to paint the toy or repair the toy.

Yeah I saw those post on Yamato's site. I can't read Japanese but I gathered from the pictures it says "Step 1: Get ruler, calipers, tweezers, patients, a beer, maybe an magnifying glass and sort itty bitty screws into piles labeled A,B,C..."

I may be winy about the screws but it's not that big a deal, really just an annoyance.

This is actually a nicely done kit with pretty good directions. I'd recommend it to anyone who is up to the challenge.

Yeah, the directions are quite clear on the screw size and quantity for each size breaking them out into groups of 'A,B,C,...etc'.

It's also clear in the directions which size/kind screw goes where. So no worries there.

...But mans sorting so meny teeny tinny itty bitty screws is tedious!

Started work on this bad boy. A little overwhelming when you first get started but you have to remember that it was designed for 'factory assembly' so it has a certen logic to it. To anyone who is worried about buying this I would say if you have put together a lot of models (successfully) and you can maintain a steady level of organization (which is key because their is SO many parts) then you should be able to pull it off.

Though one thing that really drove me f-n crazy when I started was that there are something like 190 screws in 13 sizes that come mixed in 3 bags. You have to sort your self which is a real pain. I mean come on Yamato really? You couldn't provide them presorted? I know thats how you bought them.

Took me about 45 minutes separate them all out. Even with calipers...which you will need because some of the differences between screws is less then a millimeter.

I see English on that manual! Is that just the cover or is there more inside? Thanks for the pic! I'm still waiting for mine and still pondering about what scheme to go with. With the TV release VF-1S coming in June, I'm not sure my original Roy theme idea is going to be the way to go.

English just the cover, everything else japanese. But the directions are well laid out step by step pictograms...at least they they appear to be. Hard to know until you start putting this bad boy together.

...it's no snap-screw together. It's a glue, patience, pin, patience and screw kind'a kit. Oh and did I say patients!. Yes, lots of patience with be needed to put this together.

Regarding the Garland...

There was a toy of it released in the 80's. I'm pretty sure that it transformed (though not perfect). I remember it because when I bought my Cyclone back in the day the old man behind the counter pulled it out for me to look at as well (Anybody remember 21st Century Toys in the SF Bay area?). Tell'n me the "Cyclone garbage and would break, to get the Megazone23 toy instead" As I recall, it came with the rider as well. In my ignorant Robotech haze I went for the Cyclone...and he was right it was garbage and it did break. Should have gotten the Garland and I've regretted it ever since
