  1. I've kicked the idea around of making one out of a Hasagawa model, but not a variable toy. There really are a lot of differences between an SDP-1 and a VF-1. The shape may look similar at first glance, but upon closer inspection, you see that almost every part is different. It's kind of like comparing an old F/A-18 to a new Super Hornet. From a distance, they look alike, but close-up they are totally different. Not to mention the fact that there are a lot of extra parts that would have to be made.

  2. Thanks for that excellent review Graham. I've been on the fence about getting one of these, but now I reeeeealy want one. After seeing all the work they put into this thing, I can understand why it costs so much. That thing looks as good as the Hasegawa models AND it transforms.

  3. Oh man David I've been collecting every 1/32 modern fighter kit from Trumpeter, Academy and Tamiya that comes out.  I also get all the photo etch sets from Eduard for them.  The color cockpit ones are so awesome.

:o Where do you have the room for this fleet of 1/32 planes? Do they get their own room?

  4. I have all the original maquettes except for the rare Padme... and I'm not spending $500+ to get it! That includes General Kenobi in the clone trooper armor. I was thinking of doing either Mace Windu or Shaak Ti. If you are a fan of the Clone Wars anime... you know you gotta love Shaak Ti!

    Have you seen these yet??

Those new figures rock. I wonder if that means there is to be a new Star Wars cartoon.

I'm a big fan of the Shaak Ti route. She was a bad ass in the Clone Wars.

As far as your passing the clone trooper off to a 'real' sculptor, I really don't see how someone else could do much better B))

  5. ... and my little pet project... my first sculpt... trying to replicate the Gentle Giant Clone Wars Maquette series. It's an ARC trooper with the Z-6 Rotary Blaster.

Looks great! Did you cannibalize another clone trooper for this (Ryuji style) or sculpt everything on your own?

  6. PS: The injury part, I just gotta add in based on my passion for soccer.

Was it an ankle, or a knee? I blew up an ankle really well a few years back with a volleyball, soccer combo. Hope it ain't too bad whatever it is.

So, any one else going to make it to Wonderfest?

  7. Now bring on the SV51. Created as 3d model so it shouldn't be hard either. :)

Just because it's a CG model doesn't mean that "anime magic" can't occur. In Mac0, the VF-0 nose seems to shrink in battroid mode as do the wings. A different example are the destroyer droids in Star Wars Episode I. They can't transform without some parts passing through one another (based on an interview in CineFX).

Yamato is dealing in the real world and can't fudge anything. The engineering on the VF-0 toy is really astounding in that not only does it look really good, but it also has to be strong enough to be handled regularly. It ain't as easy as they make it look.

  8. well 2 more impediments on the way. My 1/9th abrams and my classic 1/16 scale flakpanzer Gepard. ill be out driving these while my macross models lie waiting to be finished.

At least you have something cool to show for your impedements :D Lazyness (my impediment) produces nothing.

  9. I would love to see a finished product top shot, and compare it to the Hase model. I think Yamato got really close in the proportions, but maybe the nosecone is a bit too short/stubby?

I think the wings on the Yamato are shorter too. Those are the sacrifices needed to make the thing look good in all modes. The only other option is to do the dreaded parts swapping ala the 1/100 VF-0.

I have to add though that this is really just a tiny nit-pick. I really think this toy rocks and rocks hard.

  10. I find that after a day of work, I really can't get myself to sit down and put more effort into something. The TV/Nintendo can get to be pretty seductive at that point.

Another problem is that my wife and I live in a one bedroom apartment. The only modeling space I currently have is the table in the dining area just off the living room (it's actually the exact same room, but I like to say it is two "areas" <_< ). Forget airbrushing. The vent hood I built for my old place now is sitting in my in-laws' basement. :( To keep busy, I've been working on Games Workshop figures (currently a LotR Balrog) that don't require much space.

  11. Until I saw that last series of pictures, I wasn't really considering getting this toy, but now I don't see how I could pass it up. I hope they make the D model too.

I agree with David Hingtgen: Why can't they do this with a YF-19?! It was my search for a YF-19 that lead me to this site BACK IN 2002! <_<

  12. By the way does anyone here know what these things are meant to be? Lifting points for cranes? Or do they lock/unlock the structural parts of the machine for disassembly/parts change? Maybe both? Just wondering ´cause they are used so frequently in the Macross universe they must be more than decorative design features....

I believe they are supposed to be RCS thrusters.

  13. Nah, working for a company means that you just collect paychecks, and that you didn't have the strength or the vision to have an idea, then make it profitable...Obviously, it's not for everyone...

    362208[/snapback]

Yeah, but on your own you also have to deal with all the buisiness stuff and marketing yourself and your product. I've known and known of several people who started a company to do what they love, but get so bogged down in the business aspects that they couldn't to the things they started the company for. I work for a huge company and get to do the engineering I want without much of the buisiness stuff getting in the way. There is also the benefit of a good and steady paycheck as you noted, but also great benefits. This is something that cannot be overlooked.

  14. I am truly amazed at the quality of work that everyone involved has put into this project. As usual, William's skill both as a modeler and teacher is amazing, but the model is incredible as well. The level of detail of the model is great, and I was really amazed that the arm could hold its own weight and the weight of the valk horizontally. Great work everyone B))
