  1. I'd actually say Basara was far more cool & collected, dude went out into battle with nothing but his song.

Well...okay, but collected? He was obsessed with singing is song, I would say he was more driven then collected, and a bit to crazy too.

Still hes kinda of a pacifist and thats refreshing in a way.

    Pfft!

Everyone knows the Megaroad found them in their galactic love nest near the galactic core... :p

Love nest?! Throw in some Sara flower power and it gets potencial, plus a alove triangle, songs and funcky aliens. :)

  2. Although story wise, I really want Shin & Sarah to pop the hell up first.

    Its all another legend born.

And legend says they whent to another galaxy and founded the Shincadelic kingdom of the Totem women.

Seriously speaking Shin was a cool and colected kind of hero as apposed to crazy Basara, hes a favorite of mine too.

  3. Agreed that a reboot would clear the animation from the dark forces of HG, however if your going to paint the Mona Lisa with modern paints, you don't add what wasn't there already!

What can be expected at the galactic core? Well if one were to follow logical extrapolations, then the fleets would find more evidence of the Protoculture civilization, in the form of ruins and such. The core will have star systems much closer together and if the PC were a race that started out in that vicinity of the galaxy, they'd have plenty of planets to colonize before venturing out into the rim systems like Zola. Earth was a speed bump on a survey fleet's travels back in the day.

There would also be a lot more graphic evidence of the Civil and Protodevlin wars in that area, not to mention a likely higher concentration of Zentradi and possibly Supervision Army forces there.

As for the Zentradi being "belligerent" toward humanity, that really wasn't the case until the Macross attacked the Zentradi fleet. Then when it became clear that humanity possessed the long lost "Reaction" weaponry, then they Zentradi went on the hunt to capture the ship. It wasn't until Bodolza ordered Earth destroyed that the attitude toward the race changed. Essentially we were flies to the Zentradi, and we needed to be swatted as pests.

I'm kinda of following the reasoning behind the "homeworld" universe here, and yes as one gets close to the core there's more worlds and in this universe more Protoculture remains, and also yes more Supervision army presence.

These could provide great plots for story telling, perhaps a little better the Vajra bugs, kinda like the Zentradi were great antagonists to us, being without culture and all, still they were more elaborite and complex then the Vajra.

The reboot would have to be a little complex, it would have to retell the story in the different blending, but as we already have that in DYRL its not impossable. I would only prefer a more Zero style story then a Frontier one, more mature.

Or it could be something along the lines of Zero proper, with some original characters and a side story but with sequence to the original SDF Macross, introducing the new age of exploration and colonization.

  4. Kawamori probably feels otherwise. He's spent a lot of time with them (3 shows) and probably feels he's told the story he wants to with them. That's probably the whole point of Birler's Minmay locket. That's his nod to those characters. Personally, with the vast size of the Macross-universe, I feel that there's more stories out there that don't involve the same repetitive characters. Everyone's got a story so why not look beyond Hikaru-Minmay-Misa.

    And the legend continues... :D:lol:

I kind of agree there and suspect Kawamori won't touch does characters again, they are mythical of sorts.

Still there's explanations for many other events in the macross universe but not for this event and on the other hand a redoing of any stuff from the original series SDF Macross could be made around this story and creat distance from the Gold company.

On another note as the stories have been progressing, the puch to the galaxy core is more and more clear so in a simple sence some sort of back ground context explanation would be kind of expected.

  5. The money in anime these days is in moe not mecha. So I would bet that any relaunch of SDFM would end up as a high school drama, even more so then Frontier. (More then enough reason never to consider it!)

So if we're aiming for the hit title of the year, what would this monstrosity look like? With a little help by Frankenstein:

Set up: Most of the cast will be high school seniors living aboard the SDF-1:

Misa: tsundere class rep (think Kyou from Clannad)

Minmay: Hikaru's childhood friend, moe blob with music talent, loves Pineapple cake (Yui from K-on!)

Hikaru: harem lead (pick any random rom-com, they are all the same)

Milia: emotionless quiet girl (Tenchi, Angel Beats) and will fall for Hikky (they don't call em harem lead for nothing)

Max: Hakaru' classmate, computer nerd and smitten by Milia.

Kakizaki: military otaku and pervert. Butt of all jokes.

The bridge bunnies: random female classmates. Together with Misa and Vermillion squad they form the schools computer club specializing in flight sims(the boys) and RTS-games(the girls).

Lin Kyle: evil exchange student, aims to seduce Minmay with pine apple cake, will stop at nothing to get Claudias recipe

Roy: former pilot now teacher in aviation, sometimes GAR, most of the time a lecher. Shares Minmays love for pine apple cake

Claudia: the class's ICT teacher wants to domesticate Roy, eternally annoyed by his antics. Master cook of pine apple cake

Plot: Zentradi arrive decade after crash SDF-1 as per normal. The rebuilt ship is understaffed as only a skeleton crew was aboard during the launch ceremony. After the emergency fold to Pluto the laws of Gundam will ensure that the class will end up in the military. UN Spacy adopts sailor uniforms as standard military outfits. The main attack of SW1 will happen at the same time as the annual school festival. Minay and the music club give their first performance there, broadcasted live to boost the ships morale. Zentradi warchine overcome by waves of moe-ness and fatal nosebleeds...

There we go, wonder if there are any modern anime tropes missing? ^_^

    Nightmerish for sure!

Still there's some notable exceptions in anime, say...ghost in the shell, the two TV series??? Or a more kind of a parody story, like black lagoon?

  6. The reason for a reboot would be to get a new generation of fans into macross.

Problem with kids of today is they don't want to watch old shows due to not being cool for them. It's hard to get them to like the originals shows because they think if something is old it must automatically suck. (take old gundam for instance - why is that not as popular to the west as gundam wing was? Because the other one was newer) I hate to admit it but if the animation is also dated, people won't watch it out of quality reasons too.

Also what happens when you guys are old and stop watching macross? Who is going to carry the torch? If it wasn't for macross II you people wouldn't even have had macross plus. Think about that for a second people.

I think that new generation of fans you speak of, is very much "macross frontier", atleast in Japan, in the west...well we need for the macross story to finally leave Japan and be seen and expirienced all over the world.

  7. If the things on it are green, then they are canon in the sense of being mentioned officially in-universe.

That said, the locations are speculation. The locations are also the "last known location" as well.

The map is also useless without context. Here's the context: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/Locations/Locations.htm#slref

It was the first time I had seen a macross map with real locations and events, so I read to much into it.

Actually it made me remember all the maps that were put together with context in the "Homeworld" universe.

    Thanks sketchley

If it shows the location of the Megaroad-01, then no, it's not canon. No one knows where that ship is. Sorry.

Yes, presumably lost with all hands.

    From macross chronicle

    "Spacecraft Introduction*

The Megaroad-01 was initially the Earth-Produced Space Battleship SDF-2, and construction began in November 2003. The project was halted during Space War I, but after the final battle the Humanity Seeding Project was implemented, and building of the craft, now reconceived as an Emigration Ship, resumed in June of 2010. At the same time, the plans to make the ship the nucleus of an entire Emigration Fleet was also begun. Afterwards, in September 2012, the Super Long Range Emigration Fleet Number One left earth with the Megaroad-01 as its flagship. It set off heading towards the center of the galaxy, but after it arrived in the vicinity of the galactic center in July of 2016, all communications from the ship ceased. Feeling nervous about any ill-will directed towards the Seeding Project, the New U.N. Government avoided making the incident public, saying that the Megaroad-01 was still continuing on its way."

Oh and thank you to both sketchley and gubaba, for all the info you translated, for any one that doesn't understand japanese it helps a lot.

  8. Being they're on Sketchley's site, he'd be the best to answer that question. Without a link for reference, it's hard to say...

    Sorry forgot about the link

    http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/Locations/Milkyway/MilkyWay-MapZoom.jpg

I was asking about this because of a bit of nostalgia I guess, we're teased in frontier about the Minmei thing and the finding of the remains of the 117th survey fleet, even the homeworld of the Vajra is close to the last (from what I see in the map) know location of the megaroad-01, so thus the question. :)

  9. I wouldn't change much, the original is priceless as it is, but...looking at macross the first, well it looks good, more in todays age and well why not.

Still I wouldn't change that much, more interesting would be to blend other parts of the story, like DYRL and flashback and perhaps even a bit of the exploration fleets or a continuos of the story of the original characters.

So far macross the first brigs back great memories.
